Welcome to Sungkyunkwan University's (SKKU)

Department of Russian Language and Literature

기관장

The Department of Russian Language and Literature at Sungkyunkwan University was established in 1993 and has since been dedicated to the education of outstanding individuals of the Republic of Korea.

The department has been a cradle for experts on Russia who understand Russia from the Korean perspective based on the founding Confucian philosophy of Sungkyunkwan University, “In-uiyeji(仁義禮智)” and “Sugichiin(修己治人),” and who also share this understanding with other people on the foundation of their knowledge in humanities. The future, along with technological development, will bring forth complex structures and interpersonal relationships. The key to unraveling such complexity in society would be humanities, i.e. the understanding of humans, and the Department of Russian Language and Literature at Sungkyunkwan University will do its best to accomplish people-oriented education, education that promotes mutual understanding and respect, and education that cultivates humble and competent individuals.

Another keyword that can describe future society would be “global.” Due to the improvement in the inter-Korean relationship, the Republic of Korea will have to live in relationships with numerous neighbors, such as Primorsky Krai, Russia, Siberia, and Europe. Promoting our knowledge of Russia, among many others, would be an essential condition for us to live in peaceful and symbiotic relationship with our neighbors. The talented students of Sungkyunkwan, who understand and empathize with Russian literature, culture, language, and history, will play significant roles in the future of Korea, and our department will strive to better educate these individuals.

The Department of Russian Language and Literature will do its best to train global experts who will reach beyond 10.02 million hectares of Korean territory towards 1.71 billion hectares of Russia's vast territory, and to foster just people who can prosper together with others.
