- [It’s a hot topic: “Use ChatGPT Pro for 29,000 won”… Here are the precautions for “ChatGPT for Kakao.”] Kakao, in partnership with OpenAI, has launched “ChatGPT for Kakao,” drawing attention with a discounted voucher for the ChatGPT Pro service. The company has also introduced a “1+1” promotion that offers two months of access for the price of one month of ChatGPT Plus. ChatGPT Pro typically costs $200 per month (about 300,000 won). However, the new voucher is priced at 29,000 won—roughly one-tenth of the usual fee—sparking strong interest among users. According to Kakao, the voucher provides the same features as the existing Pro paid plan, enabling expert-level tasks such as complex data analysis and advanced code generation and verification. The voucher is available for purchase through the “Gift” tab in KakaoTalk. Once registered, users can access ChatGPT on both the web and mobile app versions. Existing paid subscribers (Plus/Pro) can register the voucher only after fully cancelling their current subscription. Users are advised to note the validity period. The voucher remains valid for up to 93 days, and any unregistered voucher will expire automatically once the period ends. Extensions are not available. Questions have also been raised over privacy and data training. By default, data usage and model training settings are enabled for free, Plus, and Pro accounts. Kakao said that when users log in by linking their ChatGPT account, the existing ChatGPT settings are applied as is. Those who do not want their data used must disable the setting directly in the ChatGPT web or app. Users who access the service without logging in must manually turn off the “Improve the model for everyone” option in the settings. - AI Goes from College Student to PhD… OpenAI Unveils 'GPT-5' Model
- [AI Goes from College Student to PhD… OpenAI Unveils 'GPT-5' Model] OpenAI unveiled its latest AI model, “GPT-5,” on the 7th (local time). It is a hybrid model that further advances and integrates the previous “GPT-4o” and the reasoning model “o3,” and is the first completely new model to be released in two years. Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO) described GPT-5 by saying, “If GPT-3 felt like talking to a high school student, and GPT-4 felt like talking to a college student, then GPT-5 feels like talking to a PhD-level expert,” calling it a major leap toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). OpenAI emphasized that GPT-5 is the smartest, fastest, and most useful model it has ever released. It showed cutting-edge performance in major benchmark tests for math, science, and coding, and with the ability to answer “I don’t know,” the occurrence of hallucinations—producing false information or content—has been significantly reduced. In addition, GPT-5 provides different answers each time the same question is repeated, and includes a feature that allows users to directly set the reasoning level and response length. Its natural sentence construction, creative expression, writing skills, and coding abilities have also been greatly improved compared to GPT-4. At a pre-briefing, GPT-5 was demonstrated building an application. When asked to “develop an app, including an educational game, that helps English speakers easily learn French,” it completed in a short time what would normally take a software developer several hours. GPT-5 is available to all users, but free users can only use it within a certain limit. Paid customers will see no change in pricing; Plus subscribers can enjoy higher usage and an enhanced version, while Pro subscribers can use it without limits. - What Are Schools Learning in the Age of ChatGPT?
- [What Are Schools Learning in the Age of ChatGPT?] In November 2022, OpenAI released the conversational artificial intelligence ChatGPT, which surpassed 100 million monthly users within just two months of its launch. Since then, generative AI technology has had an immediate impact on the education sector. As we approach the third anniversary of its release, the influence of advanced AI on education has become apparent across many countries. In the early stages, the United States experienced confusion over how to incorporate ChatGPT into the classroom. Educators and school authorities struggled to adapt to the new technology, and policy makers failed to offer clear guidance. In Europe, Italy temporarily blocked access to ChatGPT in March 2023 as a precaution. Meanwhile, Asian countries have been observing the global AI trends while evaluating their own linguistic compatibility and formulating appropriate responses. International organizations such as UNESCO have also prioritized discussions on the educational applications of generative AI. This image was generated by ChatGPT based on the content of a news article. According to a 2024 report by the Pew Research Center, 26% of American teenagers reported using ChatGPT for school assignments, up from 13% in 2023, effectively doubling in one year. However, a survey of U.S. public school teachers showed that 25% viewed AI as harmful to education, while only 6% responded positively. The remaining respondents were either undecided or saw both pros and cons. In May 2023, a global survey conducted by UNESCO across over 450 educational institutions revealed that fewer than 10% had established any formal policies or guidelines for AI use. In higher education, surveys indicate that approximately 90% of college students have used ChatGPT to complete assignments, prompting concerns about academic dishonesty, including plagiarism. As a result, some universities have introduced alternative assessment methods such as handwritten exams and oral evaluations. The New York City Department of Education has launched AI training programs for teachers and is incorporating AI literacy into the official curriculum. While AI offers the benefit of expanding learning opportunities for students with limited educational resources, it may also widen the digital divide for students in regions with poor technology access. In response, experts stress the importance of developing AI literacy among students and educators alike. Ultimately, the education sector must take an active role in determining how AI is used and what values guide its application—focusing not just on how fast technology advances, but on the direction it takes. - [Comparing Human and AI Debate Skills: "GPT-4 Is More Persuasive" - Swiss Research Team Warns: “AI Can Use Personal Data to Make Customized Arguments – Risk of Misuse Must Be Addressed”] On May 20, researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) announced that in an online debate experiment, GPT-4 was about 64% more persuasive than humans when it was given personal information such as gender, race, and education level. This image was generated by ChatGPT based on the content of a news article. YONHAP NEWS AGENCY. The team conducted a survey with 900 participants in the United States, collecting personal details like gender, age, and ethnicity. Participants were then randomly paired on an online platform, either in a human-to-human debate or a human-to-GPT-4 debate, and asked to argue about social and political issues. To measure persuasiveness, the researchers looked at how much a person’s opinion changed after the debate. In some cases, only one side received personal information about the other, to test how that data affected the outcome. The main result: when GPT-4 had access to the other person’s personal information, it gave arguments that were 64.4% more persuasive. Also, the chance that a human agreed with GPT-4's argument was 81.2%. However, when GPT-4 did not receive personal information, its persuasiveness was similar to that of a human. The research team concluded that GPT-4 can easily create customized arguments using just a small amount of personal data, and warned that this could be dangerous. They said AI might be used to spread false or manipulative arguments, and that further study and proper safeguards are needed. - AI Detection Tools Are Not the Answer to Cheating in Classrooms – A New Way of Assessment Is Needed
- [AI Detection Tools Are Not the Answer to Cheating in Classrooms – A New Way of Assessment Is Needed] With the rapid development of AI (Artificial Intelligence), schools are also trying to use AI in many ways. One common method is using AI detection software to stop cheating. However, recent research and teachers say this technology is not always reliable or effective. AI detection tools usually analyze something called “perplexity” and “burstiness” to decide if a sentence was written by AI. But this method is not perfect. It can be unfair to students who are still learning English. Sometimes, the tool can even say a human wrote text with AI, which is called a “false positive.” For example, Turnitin’s AI detector says it is 99% accurate. But even a 1% false positive rate can be a big problem. At the University of Winnipeg in Canada, students submit around 250,000 assignments every year. If 1% are marked wrongly, that’s about 2,500 false cheating cases. According to a survey by the Center for Democracy and Technology, 68% of public school teachers in the U.S. (K–12 level) said they use AI detection tools. Some schools in Canada are also doing the same. But relying too much on AI detection can cause stress for both students and teachers. It also does not solve deeper problems with how schools test and grade students. Professor Michael Holden from the University of Winnipeg said that many assignments are now done at home, without a teacher watching. In this case, it's hard to know if the student really did the work themselves. He said we need to change how we assess students, instead of just making AI detectors stronger. Experts suggest using a type of grading called "formative assessment," which looks at the whole learning process — like drafts, progress, and feedback. They also say it’s important for students to take part in class and work on real projects where they solve problems by themselves. Professor Holden said, "In the age of AI, education needs to change how we evaluate students. We must understand what students truly know and what skills they really have. That means moving to new ways of assessment that focus more on the learning process and students' abilities." Source. : "[인공지능 줌인] AI 감지 소프트웨어, 교실 부정행위 해결책 아니다… 평가 방식 전환 필요", WIKI KOREA, 2025. 3. 6.
