- [Day-4] EMBA Spain residency experience
- [Day 4: Lecture in IE Business School, Madrid] Global Economy lecture by Professor Gayle Allard + Certificate Award Ceremony + Closing cocktail Prof Allard’s lecture on the global economy was interesting for three reasons : being in Europe, She enabled us to see the European view of the world and being an American living aboard, her objective view on the current US government and its policies and most interestingly, her philosophical view of life and the definition of success and growth is very impressive just like a great quote from an enlightened Zen priest of ancient times. Prof Allard coverd various topics from Brexit, Trumponimics to Robotization and humans as an economic creature who pursue “growth” all the time. She explained the pros and cons of growth and at last inspired us to revisit the definition of success and happiness. Are we really happy with having more money and keep growing it, than being a happy family with good health? Philosophical views on the economy from a renowned economist like herself gives me good food for thoughts to reflect on my life and future endeavors. These program made up of a fair combination of learning contents and playful activities has provided us with a unique opportunity to finish our MBA program in two years or less. - [Day-3] EMBA Spain residency experience
- [Day 3: Airbus Reference visit + Group dinner] Digital Transformation is now the very topic that every company puts a high priority on and it’s not easy to see an actual example because firstly, is still in an infant phase to share with others secondly, it’s treated with confidentiality. With an academic relationship between IE Business school with the country’s leading businesses, we had a great opportunity to look into Airbus including their working sites and learn about their Digital Transformation strategy – vision, plans and initiatives in place, use cases and early benefits, organizational set up and ecosystem to boost Digital transformation and its current developments. We were very interested to see new service offerings based on this new digital platform and glad to see some early benefits of its application in place. Also, a great dinner that night at a local hot spot café in Madrid was an unforgettable party! Written by Heebai Kim (SKK GSB EMBA,Class of 2018)

- [Day-2] EMBA Spain residency experience
- [Day 2: Lecture in IE Business School, Segovia] Entrepreneurship by Joseph Pistrui + Lunch at Restaurant ‘Jose Maria’ + Segovia guided tour The Innovation and Modern Entrepreneurship class held in one of the rooms in an old monastery buildings, what an impressive experience! The future business environment where uncertainty and changes are new norms, requires different thinking styles and one of these new practices in the industry is so called Design Thinking, stemming from Stanford B. School collaboration with IDEO in the US. Design Thinking, stresses the importance of space and its set up for this exercise to make a more engaging environment. I really feel that a place like this class room is the very place where people can imagine more, stimulating creativity on addressing challenges, sometimes ending up with innovative solutions from these cycles. As a professor and entrepreneur running his own business, Prof Pistrui described four types of thinking styles – engineer, scientist, designer and artist and introduced new types of thinking methods: -seeing, exploring and judging. For exploring, he come up with NextSensing exercise and I see great potential of this exercise coupled with design thinking methodology to enable people to think forward and to stretch our cognitive muscles more systematically. Also based on attitudes toward uncertainty and possibility, there are four entrepreneurial styles – incremental, exponential, focused and playful. Everyone can develop each style to be enhanced or more expanded by challenging their mindsets and stretching their cognitive muscles. We should keep trying as the great quote states, the "cost of being wrong is less than the cost of being late(or doing nothing)". Also lunch at a renowned restaurant “Jose Maria” and a guided tour of Segovia, famous for its magnificent Roman aqueduct and for its cathedral, one of the last Gothic temples to be built in Europe, were just amazing experiences. - [Day-1] EMBA Spain residency experience
- [Day 1 : Lecture in IE Business School, Madrid] Global Competition in a multipolar world : From Marco Polo to Trump by Professor Fernando Cortinas. Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO and one of the Republican candidates for US presidency, has cited in her interview that her study of medieval history at University helps her a lot to cope better with business complexities and she derived a lot of insights from history to manage big organizations and I can understand what she meant by that and see the unparalleled value of the ‘Consilience’ approach from the lecture covering history, evolutions far beyond just topics of the economy. With the quest for “Money and Glory”, many of great powers, initiatives and people have risen and fllen. Marco Polo is an outstanding figure who can still be a great role model for an entrepreneur in the 21st century where uncertainty and complexities are the only unchanged characteristics of the business environment. Also, the Silk Road is the best example of entrepreneurial values and spirit at work even in the 21st century, China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative aims to revive these "money and glory" networks in a new era. Both risks and opportunities lie ahead from this transition of global institutions to regional economic blocks. As business leader in a new era, we all need to be daring and set foot into the future just like Marco Polo did in the 14th Century. Written by Heebai Kim (SKK GSB EMBA, Class of 2018)

- Executive MBA-Review of Spain residency experience
- We had an unbelievable global residency program in Washington DC in the Spring of 2017. After truly insightful sessions with Dr. Victor D. Cha, Mark Lippert, Ms. Wendy Cutler and many more who have influenced Korea-US relations on current history and also a US Congress visit hosted by the Honorable Cliff Stearns, a 24 years-member of the House of Representatives, I was wondering what other residency program can provide equal or better experiences. Clearly, I can state that a global residency program experience in Spain was as good as Washington, if not better. With an academic partnership with IE Business School, a top-ranked MBA based in Spain, we got to learn European views of the global economy and its outlook and had some hands-on analysis on current political affairs around EU such as Brexit. Also an impressive Innovation and Entrepreneurship class in one of the classrooms in a refurbished old monastery was a gorgeous and an unforgettable experiences. In addition, a special reference visit to one of the highly secured hi-tech companies in the world – Airbus, to learn about its Digital Transformation journey was a useful experience to compare its digital readiness to Korean companies. Last but not the least, with all the great dining and cultural experiences in Madrid and Segovia, we, the soon-to-graduate cohort, can share unforgettable memories from this program, I would like to give an A plus to the whole program (Global Residency I,II,III), This experience would never have been possible for individuals and is only available from this EMBA program. - 2018 Marketing Simulation Game is ongoing! (Full-Time MBA)
- 2018 Marketing Simulation Game is ongoing! Professor Caleb H. Tse reels Full-Time MBA students into a rather realistic world of marketing managers by employing a strategic marketing simulation game. This game is one of the main components of his Marketing Planning class in this spring semester of 2018. Five teams of Full-Time MBA students play the role of marketing divisions of competing international 3D-printed carbon fiber bicycle companies. Each team must make critical ...business decisions related to target segmentation, strategies to gain more market share, and financial soundness, among others. For a truly integrated learning experience, students, acting as senior marketing executives, are expected to develop and execute detailed marketing plans, while applying fundamental concepts learned from other SKK GSB marketing courses. The simulation is for a two-year run from the inception of the business, and is compressed into around eight weeks representing roughly a quarter each. Currently in the mere third quarter, it is anyone’s guess as to which company will become the market leader!
