Full-Time students at Sungkyunkwan University's SKK GSB took a closer look at Trump's energy policies during the "Investing in Climate, Investing in Growth (ICIG)" forum.
The U.S. is the world's largest oil and natural gas producer, thanks to the shale revolution. The U.S. seeks to expand its global influence through energy exports such as LNG and other resources, solidifying its position as an energy superpower.
Trump has said the U.S. needs to increase traditional oil and gas production in order to reduce energy prices for Americans. Ultimately, the Trump administration's aim is to lower energy prices to reduce the cost of living for the middle class.
This is another reason Trump aimed at lowering energy prices — to ensure the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries such as AI and data centers.
To maintain competitiveness in energy-intensive industries, it is crucial to have a cheap, abundant, and clean electricity supply. Europe and China still rely heavily on imports of fossil fuels, making them vulnerable. Korea also needs to address this issue.
