Food Science and Biotechnology

Interdisciplinary Programs of Biotechnology and Bioengineering (IPBB) in Food Science and Biotechnology (FB), Bio-Mechatronics Engineering (BM) and Genetic Engineering (GE), prepares students for careers as research scientists, educators and medical doctors in an academic or industrial environment. IPBB is interdisciplinary in nature and includes the combined talents of honored undergraduate students and 17 faculty members from three departments:

  • Food Science and Biotechnology
  • Bio-Mechatronic Engineering
  • Genetic Engineering

IPBB offers a course of study leading to the Bachelor's degree of double major. Research training is very diverse and major areas of study include: Food Engineering, Food Processing, Industrial Fermentation, Food Safety, Obesity, Biodynamics, Biomechtronics Development, Robotics Technology, Single Motion Units, 3D-Image Analysis, Electro-mechatronics, Human Motion Analysis, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology; Developmental Biology, Molecular Medicine, Molecular Neurobiology, Plant Molecular Biology and Virology.

IPBB emphasizes an integrative approach to the discipline, encompassing the Biotechnology and Bioengineering. A typical undergraduate program begins with an intensive study consisting of core courses in food biotechnology, mechatronics, molecular biology and biochemistry, followed by some additional elective coursework.

However, the bulk of training involves laboratory research and internship programs. Most students perform lab rotations before graduation.
