This course is for bioengineering students whose main interest requires knowledge of chemistry of organic biomolecules or bioactive organic materials. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to learn how chemical structure and chemical reactivity of biomolecules are interrelated. In addition, this course will cover an introduction to the spectroscopy (NMR, UV/VIS, IR).

IBT2045 Protein Purification and Gene Cloning Laboratory 2 4 Major Bachelor - No
This course is a practical class in which students conduct experiments, and aims to ensure that students have basic knowledge and skills as biotechnology engineers. Specifically, it includes learning how to use experimental equipments (pipette, weighing scale, autoclave, centrifuge, incubator, etc) and safety rules when using them. Also, this course will give students basic principles and hands-on experience in biotechnology experiments including microbe/human cell culture, protein quantification, protein purification, and gene cloning.

This course is to provide basic principle regarding molecular biology and cellular biology with a practical experiment. In particular, this course will cover animal cell culture with a transfection technology followed by measuring biological consequence such as cell proliferation and clonogenecity. Furthermore we will also cover the basic principle of RNA-Seq technology including RNA extraction, and qRT-PCR as well as NGS library preparation with Bioinformatics analysis. This course will specifically provide basic knowledge with practical experiments of skin cell physiology, which can be immediately applicable to research and ultimately helping students being good biotechnological pioneer.
