◎ What’s your Sports?

School sports is no longer the exclusive property of the school sports department. School sports has entered a new paradigm. When it is time to encourage ordinary university students to participate in sports beyond school sports, what is the way for university students, the owners of university sports, to awaken the value of sports themselves? School sports club activities can be an effective driving force for revitalizing school sports.

I met Lee Seong-chan (business 20), who is active in the school soccer club at Sungkyunkwan University.

| Please introduce yourself

Hello, I'm Lee Seong-chan, the vice president of FC Chulgakcheonha. FC Chulgakcheonha is the most winning soccer club in the humanities and social sciences campus of Sungkyunkwan University, which means "iron bridge under the sky." If you like soccer, you can join regardless of age, major, gender, nationality, or student number.

| Congratulations on winning the "2024 Seongchubae intramural soccer competition" by FC Cheolgakha. How do you feel about participating in the "Seongchubae".

For members of the soccer club at Sungkyunkwan University's Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, the "Sungchubae" is one of the biggest events of the first semester. It is an opportunity to make memories with the members of the club and show off their passion for soccer. Last year, I thought we had a disappointing result compared to our reputation as a club, so I was really desperate to win this year. I'm glad that I got satisfactory results this year. I was able to win the championship thanks to the strong bond among the members of the club.

| What motivated you to work under FC Chulgakcheon, an on-campus soccer club?

Since I was young, I have enjoyed going out and playing. Then, I started playing soccer because the Korean national soccer team looked cool during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. I joined the school soccer club when I was in middle and high school because I enjoyed playing soccer with my friends, and I naturally joined the club even after I came to university. Among the various school soccer clubs, I joined FC Chulgakcheonha because we were an association club. Since the members of the club have various majors and age groups, it is good to get advice about school life in general. And exchanges with OB seniors who have already entered various fields of society helped me a lot.

| What is a memorable experience from your on-campus soccer club activities?

Ahead of this 'Sungchubae', our general managers prepared to make FC Chulgakcheonha a One-Team. They selected coaches and coaches to establish a team system, and they elevated the performance by competing in good faith among players from the same position. At the end of the quarter, we also had time to exchange feedback on how the players played. Outside of the game, we made towels with the club logo on them and posted individual profiles of the players on social media so that the club members could feel a sense of belonging. I think the experience of trying to bring so many people together will be memorable for a long time.
