- Wang Ji-Hue (Business 18) Student Interview_Interview on receiving the Dean's Award for Student Success
- 1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Wang Ji-hue, class of 18, Department of Business Administration, who graduated this August. Due to COVID-19 and personal reasons, I delayed my admission to the UK graduate program and am currently an intern of product manager for AI products at Baidu company. 2. I heard that you won the Dean Award in the Student Success Award at the degree ceremony in 2022. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. To be honest, it was unexpected to receive this award. The past winner's careers on the school website were so great that I wasn't confident when I applied. But I applied with the thought that it's the last 'task' that I can submit at Sungkyunkwan. Eventually, it was such an honor to receive this award, and it seems to have put a perfect end to my life at Sungkyunkwan. 3. Are there any internal and external activities that you participated in when you were an undergraduate? Please introduce the most memorable activity. As an international student, I received a lot of help in adapting to studying and cultural life in Korea. Sungkyunkwan provided various opportunities for cultural exchange activities inside and outside the school, so it was an unforgettable opportunity. The most memorable activity for me was Yeonam Road Korea-China Youth Peace Camp that I participated in in the summer of 2019. There, I got to know a lot of great peers, there were Chinese students studying in Korea, and there were Korean students from prestigious Chinese universities. We listened to a lecture by young North Korean people, toured the DMZ area, and participated in panel research. Even after event, I meet these friends often and travel with them, and I am still close to them. 4. You must have had a lot of difficulties in campus life due to COVID-19, how did you overcome it? At first, I couldn't get used to the learning method of taking classes only on the internet because I couldn't go to the campus. And I'm not a very self-controlled person, so I always watch class videos during the last period of attendance check, so the learning effect was not good. However, as time went on, I got used to it, and the difficult part is that I can pause and find the material or listen to it repeatedly, which is something I can't have with offline classes. And because I didn't have to go back to campus, I had the opportunity to do corporate internships, and in 2020, I went back to China and participated in several internships. I think practice is also an important way to improve skills for business students. 5. What are your future career paths and goals? After four years of studying in business school, I felt the ability and confidence to pursue higher academic goals. To respond to complex business data, I want to learn advanced data science analytics techniques and ultimately gain the ability to understand and value how data science analytics can be applied to the business sector. After finishing graduate school, I want to get a job as a business analyst at a global company and use my multilingual strengths and extensive study abroad experience to become an international, innovative, and leadership person like the educational goals of our business school. 6. Lastly, please give us some advice for the classmates of the business school. If you want to continue your studies or get a job in a business-related field, I think it is important to find a direction you are interested in in university studies. The Department of Business Administration provides a very wide range of curriculum covering all aspects of management, including management information, marketing, production management, personnel organization, finance and accounting. If we can choose one field and focus on it, we will be more competitive for employment, and it would be good to apply for a second major. Many international students like me can have a lot of difficulties in studying abroad, and the biggest difficulty is not only language and lifestyle, but also loneliness. My advice is that you don't have to participate in too many social activities to get rid of loneliness, but sometimes learn to enjoy loneliness, and focus on studying or hobbies during your time alone to gain strength in self-development. This experience of living in Korea itself will be a precious memory of our lives.

- Business school students account for nearly half of Sungkyunkwan University certified public accountants...
-
Business school students accounted for nearly half of the successful applicants for certified public accountants at our university. In the 57th CAP exam this year, Sungkyunkwan University produced 116 students, the second most successful candidate after Korea University. Of the 116 students, 54 were accepted from business schools(based on enrollment and graduates), nearly half of them. In 2021, 54 out of 105 successful applicants and 59 out of 99 successful applicants in 2020 were all registered students and graduates of the business school. The secret of producing so many successful applicants every year is that they run a CPA class(Songhoeheon) to help students prepare for the exam smoothly. It provides a learning space for students preparing for the CPA exam, provides a wide range of support, including online lecture support, mock test implementation and scholarship support for excellent students, and mentoring senior passersby. In particular, Jeong Moon-ki(Accounting Major at Business University), and advisor to the CPA class, donated 50 million won(5 years of agreement) to the 'Certified Accountant Class Development Fund' in 2017 and another 30 million won(3 years of agreement) in 2022. Professor Jeong Moon-ki said, "As a senior, I want to help our students realize their dreams. I hope more students will be interested in certified public accountants and develop their dreams." he said. - Cho Hyun-woo (GBA 15) Student Interview_Interview on winning the Dean's Award for Student Success Award
-
1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hello! I'm Cho Hyun-woo, majoring in Global Business Administration at Sungkyunkwan University. I finished my bachelor's degree this August (A photo of the graduation ceremony in the background of Myeongnyundang.) 2. I heard that you won the Dean Award in the Student Success Award at the degree ceremony in 20222. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. Thank you to the school officials and the professors for teaching for four years. It's an honor o receive a big award at the end of college. I don't think 'success' itself can be evaluated relatively because it's invisible. I think everyone who attended this summer's degree ceremony has succeeded because true 'success' is about achieving their dreams and goals. I hope all alumni with fulfill their responsibilities from all walks of life and succeed. I will also work hard to become a talented person suitable for he dean's award and contribute to Sungkyunkwan again. 3. Are there any internal and external activities that you participated in when you were an undergraduate? Please introduce the most memorable activity. I participated in volunteer work. During the winter vacation of the second grade, I worked as a staff member of the International Youth Real Start-up Competition at Junior Achievement and served as an interpreter and protocol for VIPs in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the first and second grades. Junior Achievement is an organization that provides free economic education to teenagers from all over the world. As a UN-recognized NGO with over 100 years of tradition, it was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. When I was a high school student, I won the first place in a domestic competition under the theme of 'Sell vending machines to India', and it is also an organization that has a deep relationship with me. In the end, it is the same for any discipline but I thought that business administration, in particular, had limitations in studying only books. There are many industries, more companies than that, and there are various jobs, but a person's body is one, right? I think experience and reflection on what I am good at and what I like are important in career exploration, and I think it is a big experience to challenge start-ups. This is because you can devise a business model through ideas and organically consider various aspects from logistics to business strategies. Although I participated as a volunteer, it was a meaningful time to interact with teenagers in the Asia-Pacific region. Junior Achievement is sponsored by some of the world's leading companies, opening up opportunities to gain insight from a wide range of current employees. I also remember the activities of the Korean Culture and Diplomacy Corps. Interpreters and protocol were performed at various cultural and diplomatic events attended by foreign VIPs. I've never been to a language training program, so I especially had a strong desire for language skills. I improved my language skills to a professional and formal degree beyond everyday conversation. It was a meaningful experience to promote Korean culture through various activities such as interpreting inside and outside the Argentina ambassador to Korea at the World Costume Festival. (Diplomatic Mission to Korea Visits Daegu. The cultural expert in front of me explained it in Korean, and I interpreted it in English.) (This is the poster of the competition that I participated in as a volunteer.) 4. You graduated with excellent grades, do you have your own know-how? I tried to participate in all classes with a sense of purpose. I'm ashamed, but I'm a very lazy person. I work hard on activities that I like and am interested in, but if I am not interested, I don' invest time at all. In fact, in the first semester of the first grade, I received low grades by taking school-designated subjects and department-designated subjects one after another. After receiving my report card for the first time, I invested more time in my studies because I thought, 'I need to study a little.' I put my heart and soul into which course to take in the course registration. I read the syllabus carefully and thought about what I could learn by completing the class. Let me give you an example of a finance class that I studied with the most interest. Finance assumes reasonable users with sufficient knowledge, but it's doubtful whether humans make reasonable economic decisions. After completing
, , , I learned classical valuation techniques, and observed the volatility of the real market based on incomplete rationality through and . In order to learn mathematical methodology, I also took math subjects such as , , and . In the case of parts that cannot be solved through the class plan, I actively asked the professors through e-mail. I carefully considered which professor was teaching even if it was the same class. I took the classes of Professor Choi Kwan and Professor Jeon Dae-seok, respectively. In the case of , I took the class because the professor said that he deals with the accounting for redeemable convertible preferred stocks that I was interested in, In the case of , I took the class because the professor said that I could receive more than three corrections in a value-neutral manner. For good grades, I recommend taking the initiative in designing courses rather than taking courses with a high average credit ratio. 5. What are your future career paths and goals? I want to break away from 'eating&livingism' and create a society where we can live well together. Based on my major, global business administration, my dream is to think about the company's challenges together, present solutions, and become an expert in corporate finance. In the second round of the CPA exam, I got a first postponement of the audit and for the time being, I plan to finish the exam by experiencing internship in M&A and the audit department. The more I study, the more clear I become about what I know and what I don't know. I'm such greedy personality, so I have a lot of possibilities about what kind of career I will choose. However, no matter what career path I choose, I plan to make various efforts to become a person with expertise in one hand and a sense of field work in the other. 6. Lastly, please give us some advice for the classmates of the business school. I hope you're not afraid of trying and falling. I think college students are the marginal people between students and members of society. You learn your major, and at the same time, you encounter relationship problems that most students haven't experienced before. I think the spirit of challenge and the experience that comes with it can be a solution for you. When I reflected on my past college life, I learned more by encountering a new society, environment, and people than by thinking and exploring with my head alone. It's okay to make mistakes. Even the stroke of a young day is fine. There is no perfect life without mistakes, no life where everything goes according to plan. I want you to grow yourself through various experiences. (This is a picture of Annapurna base camp in the Himalayas. I've tried it since I got an ankle injury.) -

- Sungkyunkwan University passed 116 certified public accountants, an increase of 11 from last year
- In the 57th CPA examination this year, Korea University produced the mot successful CPA candidates. As a result, Korea University will continue to have the highest number of successful applicants for seven consecutive years. At Seoul National University, 99 people passed this year, which is a double increase from the level of successful applicants produced in the last 10 years. It is analyzed that the number of applicants increased as the working environment and treatment of certified public accountants, known as 'extreme jobs', improved than before. Sungkyunkwan Universtiy increased from 98 in 2020 to 105 in 2021, and produced 116 students this year, making it the second-highest number of successful applicants after Korea University. Yonsei University saw its number of successful applicants rise from 106 in 2020 to 118 last year, but it recorded 106 again this year, giving Sungkyunkwan University a second-place seat. In response, a hing-ranking officials of an accounting firm said, "Since there are various fields of entry such as law schools and MBA, there were relatively few candidates and successful applicants for a while. However , the number of successful applicants seems to have increased as the number of applicants increased again, perhaps because the working environment of the accounting industry and compensation and treatment have improved since the New External Audit Act."
