- Park Hye-eun (GBA 17) Student Interview_Regarding the Dean's Award for Student Success Award
- 1. Hello, please introduce yourself please. - Hello, I'm Park Hye-eun, majoring in Global Business Administration at Sungkyunkwan University. I graduated from the Department of GBA in August 2021 and am currently working as a consultant for the Jipyeong ESG Center Strategy Group at a law firm. 2. I heard that you won the Dean's Award for Student Success Award ah the 2021 degree award ceremony. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. - I think it's meaningful to receive this honorable award, "Student Success Award". Above all, I would like to express my gratitude to the professors who guided me and Sungkyunkwan University students who shared my college life with me. CFA Research Challenge 3. You'be been doing various internship activities at a foreign company, so please tell us more about it. - When I was a student, I did internship activities centered on a management consulting company, and worked as an Intern in Bain&Company's Information Services Department and as a Research Assistant(RA) in Operation Headquarters at PwC Consulting. Bain&Company Information Services is an internal research center in Bain and is responsible for supporting domestic and foreign management consulting projects within the organization. It was a time when I was able to strengthen the basics necessary for performing the task of "consulting", such as what consulting is and what information is needed to carry out the consulting project. PwC consulting's Operation headquarters carries out various management consulting projects increase efficiency and create value throughout its operation, including customers and suppliers. Here, it was an experience to meticulously understand the role of a 'consultant' from A to Z, working as an RA, built into a project team that performs PI(Process Innovation) within the operation headquarters. My internship experience at two foreign management consulting companies helped me a lot in setting my career director as a 'management consultant'. Sungkyun Global Creative Challenger 4. What did you prepare before the internship activities of foreign companies? - Before I started my internship at a foreign company in earnest, I tried to find what I liked and what I was good at in college. To do this, I challenged and actively engaged in various in-school and out-of-school activities. Representative school activities include Sungkyunkwan University's GBA Alimi, Sungkyunkwan University Intensive Workshop, Sungkyunkwan University's Global Challenger, etc. Outside school activities include CJ Young Creator and Participation in external contests (more than 40 times during school years). What I found out while performing these activities was that what I liked was to work with many people, and what I could do well was to be able to meticulously carry out one project, from suggesting business ideas to planning and generalizing. As I thought about this in two main pillars, I dreamed of a job called 'management consultant' that can help the management of a company and grow with many people. When I was preparing for the internship in earnest, I tried to become a better and more competitive person by integrating the above activities into Resume. The Resume focused more on 'what I'm good at' and meticulously described Work Experience, Extra Curious Activities, Skills & Interest, etc. As I wrote Resume, I identified my shortcomings and carried out various activities to supplement them. 5. Do you have any memorable episodes from your internship? - If I were to pick the most memorable moment of my internship, I think I remember the most when I made significant achievements and the mentors who were with me every time. Due to COVID-19, there are not many interesting episodes because I didn't interact with people outside of work, but I think it was the most rewarding when I visually confirmed that I was contributing to the team in my work. Also, it was a meaningful internship life because I met good friends who led me well and taught me a lot even though I must have been lacking in learning. SKKU GBA Integrative Core 6. Please feel free to tell me if there are any school activities or programs that you attended at school when you were an undergraduate. - The three most memorable activities during the school year are completing a double major, the University Innovation and Sharing Center (old C-School), and participating in the contest. In business administration, I decided that having a technical skill that can utilize data while learning about corporate strategy would have a great synergy effect, so I chose Data Science Convergence as my double major. I think it was a good opportunity to gain knowledge, conduct various practical projects that utilize them, such as machine learning, natural language processing, data analysis, and business strategy linkage activities. Second, I remember participating in the SKKU Global Challenger, the Global Intensive Workshop organized by the University Innovation and Sharing Center. I visited domestic and abroad by interacting with students from various majors such as literature and information science, mechanical engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering, and researching on 3D printing and mobility for the weak. These challenging experiences have been a great nourishment for me in setting my career path. Lastly, when I was a student as Sungkyunkwan University, I participated in various contests with my seniors and juniors and colleagues. I participated in more than 40 contests, including CFA Research Challenge, Samsung Notebook Marketing Competition, SKKU GBA-KK FUND ESG Competition, and gained extensive industry knowledge. Also, the experience of being interested in the process of planning and suggesting ideas while participating in the contest was the most decisive factor for me to choose the business of consulting. 7. What is your future career and goal? - I am currently working as an ESG management consultant. Based on our continuous research and consulting experience on ESG management, I aim to help Korean companies and even global companies actively implement ESG management. To this end, I am building my capabilities by carrying out various consulting firm projects. SKKU GBA KK Fund ESG Competition 8. Lastly, please give some advice for our business classmates. - Until now, I think meeting and experiencing various at Sungkyunkwan University had a great influence. It is important to study hard as a student, but I hope you meet many people in college, actively challenge new things, have fun dreams, and move toward the future. Also, if you have nay questions, please feel free to contact me and I'll answer them sincerely. (parkhyeeun0918@naver.com)

- [New professor special] 'May it be the process of finding the life you truly want and what you want to do.‘

Our college of Business is strengthening its core values of education and research, and is striving to nurture talents for student success and future value creation. To this end, four new teachers were appointed in the first semester of the 2022 school year, their majors were marketing(1 person), business information(1 person), FinTech(1 person) and management(1 person), and they were invited to be teachers with excellent competence in each field. This time, we met Professor 'Lim Byeong-hwa' of
, a new teacher who became a family member of business school, and listened to 'major research activities, majors, and future plans' Q1. Hello, professor. Nice to meet you like this! Please introduce yourself Hello, I'm Lim Byeong-hwa who joined the Fintech Convergence major of Business School from the first semester of 2022. I'm doing research in finance, but my career was a little different. I majored in financial mathematics in mathematical science at KAIST and worked at the Korea Economic Research Institute for about two years. After that, I worked for 9 and a half years at the Graduate School of Financial Engineering and the Faculty of Economics at Suwon University, and this year I moved to Sunkyunkwan University. Q2. Please briefly introduce your major, and what made you choose your major? My major is Finance/Fintech. We are doing research on individual or household consumption and investment choices, which are the demand side of asset prices. Specifically, we are conducting research to analyze the impact of budget constraints such as loan restrictions or consumption constraints such as minimum cost of living on economic activities such as consumption, investment, insurance(pension), labor, and retirement. Recently, we are conducting research on credit analysis using machine learning and blockchain-based financial ecosystem such as DeFi and NFT, which are decentralized finance. Finance serves as a lubricant to economic growth, and its important is increasing with digital transformation. Households, businesses, and governments are all connected by finance, and financial markets at home and abroad are changing rapidly. This part was interesting to me, and I chose my major without difficulty. Q3. Please tell us how you fell about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University's business school and your future plans. It's a great honor to be here with Sungkyunkwan University's Business School, which is moving toward a global leading university. I will continue to communicate with excellent students through major classes and do my best to foster the best talents in Korea. I will listen to the student's small voices and always show them thinking and acting from their perspective. Q4. Please briefly introduce your class. I am in charge of 'Blockchain and Financial Applications' and 'Data-driven Credit Modeling' in the Fintech Convergence Major, a general graduate school, and 'Investment Theory' at the undergraduate level. This semester, I am teaching 'Blockchain and Financial Applications' Based on the understanding of blockchain-based crypto-asset, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, it deals with how to utilize the financial aspect. Through practical exercises such as Bitcoin, DeFi, and NFT, we would like to experience cryptographic assets and explore the possibility of using them in the Fintech market in the future. Q5. What is your research plan from now on? In a big sense, we would like to conduct research for the development of financial markets and financial environment. Based on the research on financial activities of households including investment, insurance, pension, and loan constraints, we will continue to research to improve financial products and the financial environment. In addition, the role and importance of FinTech based on big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and information and communication technology are increasing. I would like to do research on digital innovation finance according to digital transformation. In particular, I am interested in blockchain-based financial services. Q6. Please tell me about the ideal educator you think. I've been an educator for nearly 10 years, but I don't think I've thought much about the ideal educator. Of course, it is important to effectively communicate knowledge to students, but more importantly, I think it is to motivate students. I think the ideal educator is the appearance of an assistant who helps students gain 200% of their abilities with confidence. And I think it's important to be a person who listens comfortably when they have concerns. Q7. If you have anything you want to say to the students studying hard at Sungkyunkwan University's Business School! Students of Sungkyunkwan University's Business School, it's so nice to meet you. Personally, when I think about my college life, I regret not having had more experience. I did a lot of club activities and spent a lot of time with my friends or seniors and juniors in the same department, but I think I couldn't get our of school in the end. I think one of the most important things for students is to think about what to do after college. I'm sure there are people who have already decided on the answer and are studying hard and filling in the necessary parts. However, I think most of them still lack certainly about the future or have decided vaguely. You can feel like you're behind others, but it's so obvious now. The process of finding what you really want to do is just begging and I may never find it for the rest of my life. I hope that college life will be a process of finding the life you really want and what you want to do. You can find it by taking major classes and studying hard or actively participating in school club activities, and experiences gained through overseas travel or outside activities can be helpful. And the friends, seniors, and professors who are next to you will be a great help to you for the rest of your life. I hope you have a meaningful college life day by day. -

- [Student success story] Yang Ye-ran(GBA 17), student interview.
- Sungkyunkwan's University's Business School is awarding the Student Success Award by discovering creative students with comprehensive thinking rather than simple excellent grades with the aim of discovering the First Mover role and role model of student success. She actively participated in various non-curricular programs conducted under the supervision of the department, and in particular, in 2021, she won first place in the competition held with KK FUND and industry-academic cooperation, showing excellent qualities as a preliminary consultant. Let's listen to the story of Yang Ye-ran, the favorite phrase of the expression 'connecting the dots' that appeared in Steve Jobs' speech 1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hello, I'm Yang Ye-ran, who entered the Department of Global Business Administration with a class of 18 and graduated in February 2022. It is a little disappointing to spend the last two years of my five-year school life in the COVID-19 situation, but thanks to that, I am honored to gain various experiences and receive an award and have an opportunity to interview like this. 2. I heard that you won the Dean's Award for Student Success Award at the 2022 degree award ceremony. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. I didn't expect to receive an award at the graduation ceremony, so I was very surprised and happy. I'm also very proud of the fact that I've tried a program that interests me at the time, which led to good results, and that I'm able to finish well by leaving school. 3. You actively participated in various comparative programs under the supervision of the department, what programs did you participate in? What do you remember the most? As I frequently went to the school website, I was able to confirm that the school held programs on various topics and fields for students. In-school programs that I participated in, Co-op field training conducted in partnership with Seoul Fintech Lab, overseas career exploration program to Singapore, I-CORE programs in connection with LG Chem, 3M, LOOKO, Startup CEO Challenge, Kelly Case Competition, and KK Fund in connection with LG Chem, as well as excellent undergraduate research credit programs, and job competency enhancement courses. The most memorable activity among these was the excellent undergraduate research credit system, and it was really meaningful to me that I could select fields and topics that I was interested in and deal with in-depth. Although there was a limit to the research method that could be accessed as a student and the results were different from the initial target results, I think it was most memorable because I was able to fully utilize the capabilities I had learned at school for five years through this activity, and the process of putting our heads together and refining the results report under the feedback of the instructor was meaningful. 4. In 2021, you won first place in the competition with KK FUND through industry-academic cooperation. What kind of contest is it? The contest was held through industry-academic cooperation with Singapore Venture Capital KK Fund. It was a contest in which each team researched global ESG investment trends and suggested investment proposals and directions for domestic ESG VCs or startups based on this. Accordingly, our team divided Leader/Follower groups in major countries, and by analyzing their ESG investment market and trends, we were able to derive limitations and difficulties in ESG investment. Based on these research contents and insights, instead of suggesting a specific VC or startup that was an initial topic, we organized a checklist based on KCGS, GRI, and Fund Assessment and submitted is as a result, and we were able to achieve good results with favorable reviews from the KK Fund. 5. Were there any difficulties while preparing for the contest? How did you overcome it? The contest, which lasted a total of a month and a half, consisted of several feedback meetings, interim reports, and final reports with the KK Fund and other participating teams, and the entire process was conducted non-face-to-face due to the COVID-19 situation. The project was long-term, the feedback sessions at least once or twice a week made up a very tight reporting schedule, and the entire team of my team was competing with internships and other programs, so managing the schedule was the most difficult part. Accordingly, our team set up a fixed meeting time twice a week, non-face-to-face on weekdays and face-to-face on weekends, and invested time in a schedule based on WBS, and flexibly adjusted R&R among team members according to each schedule. Therefore, not only did we strengthen the harmony among the team members, but we were able to conduct the meeting in the most efficient way in the given environment. 6. What is your future career and goal? Since I started my career in consulting, my short-term goal is to develop the skills needed in my business. I didn't set a specific goal as a long-term career path or goal, but I want to do activities that I am interested in at that time and develop insight into the world while finding my interests. 7. Lastly, please give us some advice for our business classmates. One of the phrases I really like is the expression "connecting the dots" in Steve Jobs' speech. When I looked back on the programs I had participated in, I was worried that the direction was not visible due to the lack of connection between each activity. But I realized how to connect each of those activities, and a picture of them coming together has become one of my biggest competitive advantages now. When I looked at the students around me, I saw that even if they spent the same time on the same campus from entrance to graduation, what kind of activities they were doing would change their picture. All the activities you went through in college can be the materials that make up the picture you make, so I hope you don't forget that each and every one of them is meaningful and valuable, no matter how trivial it is. Of course, it can be a good way to set a specific goal and choose only the activities that suit it. However, even if it doesn't seem to have much to do with your desired goal or your tangible results are not noticeable, I recommend you to build up various experiences in this field and that field. If you devote yourself to every activity with all your heart and soul, you will be able to create your own wonderful paintings one by one at the time of graduation and at the important milestone in your life after that.

This time, we met Professor 'Choi Angela Aeri' of
, a new teacher who became a family member of business school, and listened to 'major research activities, majors, and future plans' Q1. Hello professor. Nice to meet you like this! Please introduce yourself. Hello, I'm Choi Ae-ri, and I was appointed as an assistant professor of information management at Sungkyunkwan University Business school in 2022. After graduating from the Department of Business Engineering at KAIST in 2019, I worked as an assistant professor at The Florida State University for two and a half years, and this year I moved to Sungkyunkwan University. Q2. Please briefly introduce your major, and what made you choose your major? My major is Information Systems. In particular, we are conducting statistical analysis of consumer behavioral pattern data on various mobile platforms to quantify it and study how it can actually help management. With the onset of the 4th industrialization, it became possible to track the actions and decisions of all consumers. I chose this major because it was interesting to think about how to use this information effectively from a business perspective. Q3. Please tell us about your feelings about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University Business School and your plans for the future I have high expectation for Sungkyunkwan University students. I'm going to have a lot of time to communicate with students, and I want to be a mentor who can be of some help to students. Also, as a business scholar, I would like to continue to conduct meaningful research at home and abroad. Q4. Please give a brief introduction about the class you are in charge. This year, I'm in charge of Business Analysis. It is a class that learns the overall use of data from database design to data collection, data analysis, and interpretation. The essence of this lesson is that students have more opportunities to deal with data and software in person and gain practical knowledge, rather than learning from the text written in the textbook. It is still difficult to contact students a lot due to the COVID-19 situation, but I would like to meet them through various opportunities in the future. Q5. What is your future research plan? As mentioned above briefly, I would like to continue to promote academic activities at home and abroad as a business scholar. We are planning to continue our research on consumer behavior on the digital content platform and the influencer marketing platform. In addition, we are also conducting research related to gender effect on online platforms. It takes a lot of time and effort to complete a study, but I'm very happy to discover and learn new things every day. I want to do this kind of research for a long time. Q6. Please tell me about the ideal educator you think of. I think the ideal educator is to help students achieve their dreams, and to respect those dreams and act as a facilitator to help them achieve them. Rather than simply teaching students classes, giving them assignments, giving them tests, and giving them grades, I will be professors who forma a consensus with students and think from their perspective. Q7. If you have anything you want to say to the students who are studying hard at Sungkyngkwan University Business School, please tell them! Rather than focusing on grades, I hope students to have a variety of experiences during their college years. Looking back, it seems that the various experiences I had during that time were more blood and flesh to me than the credits I got in class at university. -

- Interview with Kim Han-min, Ph.D. in Management Information, receiving the Dean's Award for Excellence in Academic Perfo
- 1. Hello, please introduce yourself. Hello, I'm Kim Han-min. I received a doctorate in business administration from Sungkyunkwan University as a major in business information. The doctoral thesis is a study to discover the determinants of information avoidance according to the difference between information accuracy and user interface. Currently, we are conducting research on fake news, block chain, and metaverse in areas of interest. 2. I heard that you won the Dean's Award for Excellence in Grade/Research. Please tell us how you feel. I'm very happy to receive a meaningful award this time. I'll listen to it as a message to be sincere in the future. Looking back, I received a lot of support and consideration from professors, employees, and graduate school colleagues during my Ph.D. program at Sungkyunkwan University. Thank you so much. I will continue to be a researcher who can have a positive impact on society, recalling that obtaining a doctorate is not the end, but a new beginning. 3. Is there any research going on? Today, the problem of fake news is getting serious as users become the main agents of the information production and exchange online. My doctoral thesis deals with this, and I am working with professors to develop my thesis and publish it in a journal. As another topic, we are conducting experiments on the intention of using the metaverse service with the metaverse platform company. 4. What was the most rewarding thing about your studies and research? There must have been some difficulties. How did you overcome it? I think it was the most rewarding when I was selected as an excellent Ph.D. scholarship student. It motivated me a lot and was the driving force behind completing my Ph.D. program well. When I had difficulties during my degree course, I took a short break and organized my thoughts rather than trying to do something in a hurry. After that, I was able to overcome the difficulties with a mindset that I would take a step further than yesterday. 5. I'm curious about your future career path. What are your dreams and plans? I hope to continue my research in the future. Ultimately, I would like to conduct research and education in a university. Since there are still many shortcomings, constant effort such as lecture experience and research paper publication are needed. 6. Lastly, please say a word to the students preparing for the management class and Ph.D. I believe that continuing your studies in graduate school is ultimately walking the path of becoming a researcher with independent research ability. I think we need two things for this. First, I think you need to be sincere and slow in your studies rather than impatient to achieve results in a short period of time. Second, I think efforts are needed to have an objective perspective on one's research. I think it is necessary not only to find evidence to support your argument, but also to look at and review the opposite arguments. Thank you so much.

- Welcoming the new semester_Ahn Hee-joon, Dean of Business School/Dean of Graduate School of Business
- Hello, everyone. I'm Ahn Hee-joon, president of Business School and Graduate School of Business. Finally, the new semester of 2022 has begun. I wish you all good health and that all your plans to achieve this year come true. At the beginning of the semester, I would like to share some of the main news of business administration and share my request. This semester, we have four great professors in business administration. Detailed introductions to the four professors will be available on the business school website soon. The new professors, along with the existing 55 professors of business administration, will elevate the level of our business school in all aspects of education and research. The second business building is scheduled to start construction in the second half of this year. We have achieved remarkable growth over the past decade as a leader in domestic business administration education and research, but have suffered a lot of inconvenience due to restrictions on dedicated space. The 2nd Business Building, which will be designed to meet future educational needs, will not only solve the chronic lack of space, but also provide a comfortable educational environment under state-of-the-art facilities, thereby increasing the competitiveness of our business school in the post-COVID-19. As you know well, due to the continued spread of COVID-19, classes are inevitably held online and offline at the beginning of the semester. I would like to make two requests regarding this. First, it is a request for quarantine and safety. Unlike last semester, non-face-to-face education will be drastically reduced from this semester. Inevitably, you will spend more time in classrooms or other spaces on campus, and contact with your colleagues will become more frequent. It's a pleasure, but the most important thing is to protect your health from COVID-19. The school will do its best to prevent the disease, but we ask for thorough compliance with the quarantine guidelines such as wearing masks on campus and thorough personal quarantine. Another thing I'd like to ask you is about participating in online classes. Participation in online classes has its own advantages, but there are many shortcomings in terms of the effectiveness of education. If you are participating in the class online, please leave the camera on and attend the class. It may be inconvenient to turn on the camera during class for various reasons, but I think the best way to overcome the shortcomings of the class due to COVID-19 is to maintain an offline educational environment as much as possible online. One effective way is for the entire class turn on the camera and attended classes. By doing so, both professors and students will be able to feel more united and participate in the class enthusiastically. I hope you all have a bright and energetic new semester! Above all, I hope that the day will come as soon as possible when COVID-19 ends and students can freely roam the campus and actively engage in learning activities and people-to-people exchanges through various activities inside and outside the classroom. Thank you. February 2022 Ahn Hee-joon, Dean of Business School and Dean of Graduate School of Business
