This course studies the issue of social responsibility and sustainable business, which is an increasingly important issue in business and marketing management and an emerging and rapidly changing business field. Sustainable business is an evolving model for corporations and organizations combining core business practices with scalable social impact. Students examine: (1) the framework of developing a Brand Ideal of the organization, (2) the evolution of CSR and its philosophy, (3) the practice of identifying, starting and growing successful mission-driven for profit and nonprofit ventures, that is, organizations that strive to advance social change through innovative solutions, and (4) performance evaluation and measurement.

All people do not need to be an accountant or an auditor of accounting information, but they need to understand accounting information if they want to make a decision about a firm. Companies are required to report financial statements after recognising and recording accounting transactions occurred during an accounting period. Given that one of the most important objectives in Accounting is to provide a firm’s useful information to users, the users should be able to understand accounting information for their economic decision making. However, many stakeholders of a firm are weak at understanding and analysing accounting information, although they agree that accounting information is useful to them. It is true that it is very difficult to understand and analyse accounting information for decision making. The objective of the course is to help those people facing difficulties in understanding and analysing accounting information in financial statements. The ultimate goal of financial statement analysis is to estimate a company’s intrinsic value. To estimate a firm’s value, it is essential to forecast the firm’s future profitablity and growth first after analysing various aspects of the firm. First of all, we need to qualitatively analyse macroeconomic environment, industry that a firm belongs to, and the firm’s competitive strategy. [2] Each team will be asked to take one step further by suggesting a new business plan or an idea for an in-house venture for the group.

This course is about how firms can transform themselves for survival and growth in the age of digital transformation. The old system established during the industrialization of the economy is being reconstructed into a new system where the consumers and users are the source of the power. At the same time, digital technologies have reached the stage of exponential growth where it is almost impossible what the future of work, life, and business will be like. In this class, the students will acquire 1) basic knowledge about the main digital technologies such as big data, internet of things, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, 2) business model innovations, 3) advent of platform business models, their dominance in market place, and their social influence and responsibilities, and 4) business models tranformation strategies. Students will be assigned on a team of a specific company or retailer and perform a role of sales manager of the company or customer of the retailer for the semester. At the end of the course each team will make a recommendation how they will improve their business strategy and execution to the class.

Moreover, as the management activities and performance of international companies are being spread to global markets more quickly and accurately than before due to digitalization, there is an increasing demand to adopt a new management paradigm such as ethical management, CSR management, sustainability management, or ESG management. The companies are facing more strengthened requirements of disclosure of financial activities and performance, as well as non-financial ones, and supply chain management that determine the reputation of the companies. In this course, students learn about business and society, the business environment of global companies, ethics and responsibility principles of international organizations and regions, ethics and ESG-related disclosure standards, and various management paradigms and cases covering global trends.

Additionally, methods for building and strengthening organizational culture, adapting and innovating the organization according to changes in the management environment, advantages and disadvantages of various organizational structures and types, managing people as the core assets of the organization, individual characteristics and diversity necessary for this, and motivational methods corresponding to these are examined. Finally, effective methods for forming and operating groups and teams, and understanding the leadership qualities that managers need to possess are explored.
