1. Educational Objectives
The Chinese Department provides various courses that focus on the language, literature, and the culture of China. The Chinese department aims to produce specialists who have a deep understanding of China. The course helps to prepare students by developing fluent communication skills in Chinese, high level of comprehension skills, listening ability and deeper comprehension of Chinese literature.

Chinese Linguistics
- Students can improve their knowledge from ancient to contemporary of Chinese grammar and graphonomy. Moreover, Chinese grammar and graphonomy helps students to develop their new perspectives on Chinese writing.
Chinese Literature
- Students will understand both ancient and contemporary Chinese literature. Moreover, students can deepen their understanding of China as a nation by reading and studying Chinese literature.

1. Reputation
In the department's 60 year history, around 90 master's and doctorate students have graduated, with more than 40 doctorate students working full-time in universities abroad.
(1) The Society of Chinese Literature
The department runs 'The Society of Chinese Literature'. The society has full-time lecturers as members and holds symposiums twice a year.
(2) Myeongnyun Society
Undergraduate students of SKKU run the society and hold meetings more than 4 times per year.
(3) An Alumni Association
The Department of Chinese Language and Literature has composed networked associations among the alumni and holds meetings twice a year. A development fund is gathered from the meetings and is used as scholarships to support students.

Chinese Play by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature
- Time: Every September & year-round
- Participants: Students of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature
- Program Description: The members of the Chinese Play Club and the students of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature voluntarily participate in the play. The play aims to enhance Chinese language skills and boost unity among the students through the performance.
Homecoming Day of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature
- Time: Every March/ September & year-round
- Participants: Students and graduates of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature
- Program Description: Homecoming Day of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature is an event where juniors and seniors interact actively, based on the programs that encourage communication and harmony among the students and graduates of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at SungKyunKwan University.
