- College of Education Signs Business Agreement for Research Cooperation with KMITL University of Technology, Thailand On March 9 (Thursday), the College of Education signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on research cooperation and mutual dispatch of graduate students with the engineering college of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), a prominent university in Thailand. The seven KMITL professors and staff members met with Kim Jae-hyun, vice president of Human Resources Cam, Koh Jang-wan, head of the College of Education, Ryu Eun-seok, head of the department of computer education, and Park Cheon-soo, professor of computer education, to discuss ways to cooperate. Based on this, the business agreement document was signed. In addition, the visiting group visited our university's next-generation realistic media research center and agreed to continue research cooperation and exchange research personnel with the aim of fostering global creative convergence talents by activating convergence research in the field of realistic media and robotics. On the other hand, Professor Somyot Kaitwanidvilai, the head of KMITL's engineering college who visited our university, is a researcher who is actively conducting research in the field of robotics and mechatronics. In particular, through collaboration with companies such as Seagate, Professor Somyot Kaitwanidvilai is leading KMITL Engineering & Technology by focusing on actual applicable research.

- SKKU held ceremony to celebrate construction of Barrier Free Environment in Hoam Hall Sungkyunkwan University built a ramp on the road of Hoam Hall to facilitate access for the disabled and to construct a barrier-free environment on campus. It also held a ceremony to celebrate the construction of the Hoam Hall Barrier Free environment on November 2 (Tue), 2021. University Officials such as President Shin Dong Ryeol and executive board member Joo Young Soo participated in the ceremony to celebrated that disabled students could enjoy campus life without any difficulties. Prior to the creation of the Hoam Hall Barrier Free environment, our university has made efforts to support disabled students by introducing vehicles to support disabled students, expanding revolving doors and installing automatic doors throughout the university long before. In addition, our university was selected as the best university in the 2020 evaluation of educational welfare support for students with disabilities by producing and providing subtitles for major iCampus online lectures and introducing a text translation system for remote lectures for non-face-to-face classes.

- Students in Department of Computer Education, won the "AI Online Competition".
- Students in Department of Computer Education, won the "AI Online Competition". Students(Gil-Han Park, Jae-Hwan Lee, and Keon-Woo Bang) of the department of computer education at the College of Education won the honor of winning the 2021 AI Online Competition hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. They ranked third in the computer vision task of developing a ‘model to detect driver’s careless behavior to prevent accidents’ in the image sector. The "AI Online Competition" is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Information and Communication Industry Promotion Agency to expand the base of AI technology and select prospective start-ups and small and medium-sized companies (venture companies) with excellent algorithm development skills. The National IT Industry Promotion comprehensively evaluates the performance of the competition and the possibility, and selects 20 teams, including 8 teams in image sector, 6 teams in natural language, and 6 teams in numerical analysis.With the result, it plans to support 300 million per team and award the minister’s award and the president’s award to first and second places, respectively, in each field.

- College of Education - Chungnam Samsung Academy Signed a MOU The College of Education(Dean, Jae-Hyun Kim) and Chungnam Samsung Academy(Principal, Ha-Shik Park) signed ‘MOU - Educational cooperation school agreement for mutual cooperation’ on June 8 (Tue) 2021. The agreement ceremony was attended by Dong-Ryeol Shin (president of SKKU), Jae-Hyun Kim(dean of College of Education), Shi-Won Ryu(Head of Administration Office), Ha-Shik Park(principal of CNSA), Young-rak Kim(executive board member of CNSA), Do-hun Kim(vice-principal of CNSA), ect. The main content of the agreement is to cooperate with teachers’ training, students’ teaching practice and volunteer work, and research within the range of regulations of both schools to achieve common educational goals. Jae-Hyun Kim(dean of College of Education) said “In order to actively cope with the rapidly changing educational environment, we will exchange information such as recent research trends and improve students' capabilities to contribute to the quickly spread of future education." After the agreement, Chungnam Samsung Academy was welcomed by about 10 students who graduated Chungnam Samsung Academy and held a meeting to share news on the university life and curriculum information.

Successful Completion of “2021 Hancom Group–SKKU Industry-University Cooperation Conference” On June 1, 2021 (Tue), the “2021 Hancom Group–SKKU Industry-University Cooperation Conference on Future AI Technology” was held at the Samsung Library, Natural Sciences Campus. Sang-Chul Kim, Chairman of Hancom Group, and representatives of 10 affiliate visited our university's Natural Science Campus and discussed on “exchange on current status of research on AI utilization and future cooperation plans”. They also visited the Aidine Robotics of Corporate Project Management Center and observed robot demonstration and research outcomes of Department of Artificial Intelligence (graduate school). At the conference, Soon-Young Oh, executive director of Hancom Intelligence, introduced the current status of Hancom Group’s AI business and Yeon-Mook Park, director of Hancom Robotics, introduced the robot business and suggested ways to cooperate with Sungkyunkwan University. From our university, Hyun-Seung Choo, director of Convergence Institute, introduced "G-ICT and Project to Foster Excellent ICT Talents”. “Foster Excellent ICT Talent” project is a government funded program worth 4 billion won a year for up to 10 years and the university has been operating the Department of Superintelligence Engineering since September 2020. Ji-Hyung Lee, Dean of Department of Artificial Intelligence and Department of Applied Data Science, introduced ‘AI graduate school education and research status’. Sungkyunkwan University ranked 87th in the world in computer science in the 2019 Times World University Evaluation, and AI graduate researchers have filed 124 patents (including 17 international patents) in Korea over the past five years. Among them, 40 cases are making very remarkable achievements in AI-related fields. Professor Seok-Han Lee explained the “next-generation robot technology based on artificial intelligence”, which is leading the innovation of manufacturing systems by converging AI technology with robot technology, and Professor Hyuk-Ryul Choi introduced outstanding research outcomes of Sungkyunkwan University under the theme of sensor and system technology for robots. Prof. Choi is the representative of Aidine Robotics, which is an industrial robot manufacturer established at the SKKU’s Business Establishment Supporting Center. Hancom Group expressed gratitude to Sungkyunkwan University by saying “It was an opportunity to learn Sungkyunkwan University’s remarkable education and research. We hope to cooperate with the SKKU in various field such as education as well as technical cooperation in the future.” Hancom Group has emerged as an ICT convergence company from a software company that specializes in AI, robots and blockchain solutions, as well as Hangul and computers that produce Hancom Office used by all Koreans. In the meanwhile, Hancom Group operates a social contribution project “Supporting Hangul Education institutions around the World.” In connection with this project, Hancom Group started sponsoring Sungkyunkwan University’s representative international contribution project,

- Challenge Semester, 21 SKKU Students Selected for FinTech Internship A total of 21 SKKU students (8 master’s students from Department of FinTech and 13 undergraduate students from Department of Business Administration and Department of Global Business Administration) are chosen for the FinTech Internship program offered by BK21 FinTech Research & Education Center for Global Leaders (Director Kyo-Jik Song) which will be conducted during 2021 challenge semester. The BK21 FinTech Research & Education Center for Global Leader signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with FinTech Lab in Seoul to conduct a program to allow students participate in internship program and earn credits during vacation. Students who participate in the FinTech internship will learn the startup ecosystem by conducting FinTech technology commercialization strategies, marketing, and management support for eight weeks starting from June 14. Professor. Kyo-Jik Song who organizes the program said, “I hope it will serve as an opportunity for students to think about FinTech business models while learning and experiencing the process of commercializing, starting and growing FinTech technology.”

- SKKU Sent Freshmen Welcome Gifts to Celebrate Admission SKKU delivered welcome gifts to about 3,700 freshmen and transfer students in 2021 to congratulate them on their admission. ※ Relative video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXn70fpvKs0 SKKU and the Student Council Committee prepared the welcome gift set to freshmen on their new beginning and encourage those of who are not able to fully enjoy their campus life due to the prolonged COVID-19. The welcome gift set consists of a total of 23 items, including SKKU’s mascot (Myungryun & Yuljeon), sweatshirt, souvenir, KF94 mask, hand sanitizer, school brochures and more. President Dong-Ryeol Shin said in the congratulatory letter sent along with the welcome gift set, “I sincerely applaud your effort and achievements in becoming SKKU students and overcoming the difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope you will have a fruitful university life by utilizing various support programs such as a challenge semester provided by the Student Success Center, which is newly established by SKKU for the first time in Korea.” Sang-Hoon Bae, the Vice President of Student Affairs, said “Because of COVID-19, the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging and interact between juniors and seniors is decreasing. To encourage the freshmen, the administration and the student council office decided to send the welcome gift set to them. Ji-Yun Kim (Ph.D. from the Department of Education) employed as Assistant Professor at Hyupsung University [Image] Ji-Yun Kim, a Ph.D. from the Department of Education Ji-Yun Kim, a Ph.D. from the Department of Education (specialized in counseling psychology education) was appointed as an assistant professor at Hyupseong University in March 2021. She received a doctorate in August 2019 as a “Latent Class Types of Adults’ Non-suicidal Self-injury: The Effect of Risk Factors on Classification and Differences in Psychological Problems” (Adviser: Dong-Hun Lee). After her Ph.D., she received an award for supporting next generation researcher for “A Study on Risk Factors Affecting the Maintenance of Adults’ Non-Suicidal Self-Injury” at the
, an associated department of the Korean Psychological Association. She is also currently participating in a research project, “Development and Effectiveness Verification of Suicide Risk Screening Tools and Suicide Risk Assessment Tools”, under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Prof. Ji-Yun Kim has worked as a counselor for many years at SKKU’s and other universities’ Counseling Center and published 17 papers in KCI accredited journals. Prof. Kim’s main research areas are trauma and self-harm. She is currently studying relationship between self-harm and suicide and establishing an integrated model for the prevention and intervention of self-harm behavior of college students based on a longitudinal study. -

A total of 41 students participated in the event. The program was conducted depending on the province.

- College of Education Signed MOU with Imun High School College of Education (Dean Jae-hyun Kim) signed an MOU, ‘Cooperation in Edu-Tech and Artificial Intelligence Convergence Education’ with Daejeon Imun High School on January 15th (Friday) at 10:30 am. Kim Jae hyun, Dean of College of Education and Ryu Eun-suk Chief, of Edu-Tech Research Station from Sungkyunkwan University participated in this event. From Daejeon Imun High School, Chairman Lee Jae-gwang and Principal Kim Dong-chun participated in this event. Through this business agreement, College of Education will actively cooperate with Artificial Intelligence Convergence Education and Edu-Tech system which Imun High School is working on as it has been selected as one of ‘10 High Schools Leading Edu-Tech with Ministry of Education’. College of Education will effectively use knowhows it acquired through running the first ‘artificial intelligence convergence education’ major in the graduate school, and experiences achieved through running computer education majors. Dean Kim Jae-hyun expressed his expectations, saying “College of Education will help Daejoen Imun High School to settle the edu-tech business quickly by utilizing our innovative capabilities of artificial intelligence and SW convergence education. Also we will contribute to the education field by improving capabilities of teachers and students based on the artificial intelligence and edu-tech.”
