- Prof. KIM Jeong Ha Awarded President’s Prize for Contribution to Ocean Arbor
- Professor KIM Jeong Ha of the Department of Biological Sciences was awarded the prize by the President of Republic of Korea in commemoration of the Ocean Arbor Day 2016 on May 10. His contribution to marine ecology has been recognized as he has developed and promoted the eco-friendly and scientific technology to create aqua-forest which is being tested to apply to East Sea of Korean peninsula.

- Talks on Collaboration with Ghent University Global Campus Songdo Initiated
- Dean KWON Young-Uk of the College of Science paid a visit to the Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) May 19th to explore possiblecollaboration with the branch campus of the most prestigious university of Belgium. Mr. Thomas Buerman (Campus President at Interim), Professor Stefan Magez, Professor Stephen Depuydt joined him at the meeting and showed the brand-new research facilities on its campus. Both parties have agreed to continue the talks for scientific and scholastic collaboration which is a foundation of student mobility and joint programs.

- Student Council held 2016 Teacher's Day Ceremony
- Student Council of College of Science 'Onsaemiro', held 2016 Teacher's Day Ceremony in 16th, May, 2016. They visited Dean of College of Science and Deans of each Department(Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and thanks for their teachings and devotion. Dean KWON delivered his appreciation and proudness for College of Science Student's passion and effort.

- Korean Mathematical Society’s Spring Meeting 2016 on NCS
- The Department of Mathematics hosted the Korean Mathematical Society’s Spring Meeting 2016 on the Natural Sciences Campus from April 22 for 3 days in collaboration with the Korean Mathematical Society. The Meeting was also sponsored by the Korean Institute for Advanced Studies, National Institute for Mathematical Studies, Institute for Nonlinear Ergodic Theory headed and Brain Korea 21 PLUS Project Group of the Department of Mathematics. The programs comprise a series of organized academic sessions for each specific field of mathematical science, including algebra, analysis, geometry, topology, and cryptography, etc. Two public and plenary lectures were also presented to audiences by Professor Michael Summerfield Jolly of the Department of Mathematics, Indiana University and Professor LEE Woo Young of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. More than 300 mathematicians and researchers were invited to join for scientific engagement and sharing knowledge.

- Happy Parents’ Day for Cleaning Ladies of Science Building By ‘Onsaemiro’
- The Student Associations of the College of Science ‘Onsaemiro’, headed by OH Hoon Young, organized a special event for cleaning ladies on the occasion of the Parents’ Day 2016 by thanking them for their strong commitment and warm-hearted kindness. They gave a small gift, handkerchief, to them and had time to listen to their mind and ideas about the working in the science building.

- Dean KWON Discussed Cooperation in Natural Sciences with Paris Diderot University
- Dean KWON attended a meeting with the President of Paris 7 (or Paris Diderot University) Dr. Christine Clerici on May 9th, 2016 to discuss future collaboration in natural sciences research and education. The nature of the visit was to investigate possibilities of forming a bilateral scientific and educational cooperative relationship. This visit is expected to pave the way for further talks between two institutions in some matching academic disciplines, particularly in biological sciences and mathematics where Paris Diderot University is strong.

- Radboud University Marie Curie Students’ Association for Physics’ Visit to College of Science
- The College of Science and the Department of Physics invited the Marie Curie Students’ Association for Physics and Astronomy, a student scientific study and research group of Radboud University Nijmegen, to the Natural Sciences Campus On May 6, 2016. They were given chances to get to know about Sungkyunkwan University and natural science disciplines, particularly physics and astrophysics, throughout the programs co-organized by the College of Science and the Department of Physics. The one-day tailored program wasbegun by the Global Student Network Help and Information Club, or GSN HI-Club, with one-hour presentation about South Korea and SKKU and campus walk tour for about an hour. During their visit, a group of physics students were also invited build friendship with the students who are studying similar academic disciplinesby exchanging ideas about common field of interest in physics studies during lunch and coffee breaks. In the afternoon, Professor RHEE Joo Yull and CHOI Wooseok delivered special lectures to nineteenfuture Dutch physicists from Holland. They were also brought to experimental physics laboratories by our physics students to see how our physics research is done.

- Bio Graduate SHIN Yoonha Elected as President of SKKU Alumni Association
- Mr. SHIN Yoonha, chairing the KUKJAE Industries Corporation, has been elected as the president of the SKKU Alumni Association. This is another big news for the science community in SKKU as well, as two presidents of the association in consecutive terms are graduates of the College of Science; Mr. RYU Deok Hee, CEO of KYUNG DONG Pharmaceutical Corporation as the 34th president and Mr. SHIN as the 35th. His term started as of May 1 and will continue until April 28, 2018.

- Study Abroad Orientation and Cross Cultural Workshop 2016 Spring
- The College of Science held a study abroad orientation and workshop on April 28, 2016 at the Learning Factory of the Corporate Collaboration Center for the students who will be going abroad for study and researchthis coming summer or fall as exchange, internship or dual degree student. The various programs were organized, such as information session for paperwork preparation, immigration clearance, risk management and credit transfer, and cross cultural competency workshop where they were give opportunity to learn about how they can adapt to exotic cultural settings using foreign languages and universally acceptable communication skills. They were also able to socialize with peer students during lunch time with pizza and pop for better networking.

- Science Student Council’s Contribution Recognized: Scholarship Awarded to Representatives
- The 27th day of April was the day when the contribution and commitment of each member of student council of the College of Science and four departments were recognized by the College’s leadership. Dean KWON Young-Uk of the College of Science invited nine students who are committed to the student council of the college and departments to encourage their various student-driven activities and the programs they invented for science student community by awarding scholarship at the Dean’s office. The students were also given opportunity to share the ideas about their plan for better student engagement and activities throughout this year with Dean KWON and KIM Byung Sung, director of the College of Science Office.
