LAN5026 Environmental Remote Sensing 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
Remote sensing data contain a wealth of information. In order to make them useful for environmental planning, the image data must be processed, rectified and interpreted according to certain criteria. Necessary knowledge of the development, geometrical and physical properties as well as methods of processing and interpretation will be communicated in this module. In addition to the theoretical foundations of the techniques of digital image processing and analysis are taught and learned by examples from research and practice. The student also learns how to assess potentials and limitations of different sensors and analysis and how to identify new approaches to environmental planning and analysis using remote sensing.

LAN5033 Graduate Landscape Design 1 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
This graduate design studio class focuses on both the integrated master landscape planning of a property and the specific design of landscape elements and plants within it. The practical, aesthetic, and environmental sustainability are also components of landscape design. This design studio class deals with landscape or design projects. The goal of this class is to improve design solution ability with understanding of landscape context and life of people. The students should present their design work.
LAN5034 Graduate Landscape Design 2 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
Graduate landscape design2 focuses on both the integrated master landscape planning of a property and the specific design of landscape elements and plants within it. The fundamental elements of landscape are studied and how they are integrated in design. The students should present their design works at the end of semester.
LAN5035 Graduate Landscape Design 3 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
Graduate landscape design3 focuses on both the integrated master landscape planning of a property and the specific design of landscape elements and plants within it. This landscape emphasize design processes and methods to develop the visual, behavioral and cultural issues in landscape design. The studio attempts to enhance the problem solving ability of each student and design ability which can transform the design issues to landscape design works.
LAN5036 Graduate Landscape Design 4 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 Korean Yes
Graduate landscape design4 focuses on both the integrated master landscape planning of a property and the specific design of landscape elements and plants within it. This landscape emphasize design processes and methods to develop the visual, behavioral and cultural issues in landscape design. The studio attempts to enhance the problem solving ability of each student and design ability which can transform the design issues to landscape design works.
LAN5037 Urban Landscape Master Planning 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Many cities in the world are managed by various policies with an interest in urban landscape and design in order to enhance city competitiveness and to establish an identity. As Korea's landscape law and the Building Basic Law were newly enacted in 2007, the legal systems related to urban space management, which had been operated under the "Law on Planning and Utilization of Land", have been diversified. In addition, local governments have provided various means of implementing individual plans and projects in accordance with local characteristics and urban design policies. The meaning of urban landscape is wide and comprehensive, and it is gradually recognized as a main object of urban management. Urban landscape is considered as an important element in defining urban characteristics and identity. This course aims to train students by providing in-depth insight into urban landscape through legislation, guidelines, and practical examples to specialist of cityscape planning in landscape architecture side.
LAN5038 New Paradigm of Urban Regeneration 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Many parts of modern cities were dilapidated by the reduction of population, changes in industrial structure, and indiscreet expansion of cities. The concept of urban regeneration came out in this context. Instead of building new town or city, urban regeneration makes cities active physically and environmentally with strengthening of regional competitiveness, the introduction and creation of new functions, and the utilization of local resources. Recently, a state or city-led urban regeneration project is being actively carried out. At this time, the role of the landscape architect who plans and designs the urban environment is crucial for urban regeneration. In order to understand the urban regeneration project and to develop our expertise, students to study the theory of urban regeneration, the case projects, the regulations, etc., and to research individually the role of landscape architects in the process of urban regeneration projects.
LAN5040 Urban Ecology 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Urban ecology is the study of ecosystems that include humans living in cities and urbanizing landscapes. This course aims to understand the interaction between humans and nature within many disciplines including sociology, geography, urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering, economics, anthropology, climatology, public health, and ecology. The objective of the course is to investigate how human and ecological process can coexist in human-dominated systems.
LAN5041 Landscape Analysis and Practice 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
This class covers studying a large piece of physical space with the goal of describing it and the processes that made it that way. In order to achieve this representative cultural, historical and beautiful landscapes are selected to study in the class. Conservation and management of these landscapes will be explored.
LAN5042 Environmental Analysis Using RS/GIS 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
This class covers studying environmental analysis using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). In order to achieve this, the study site is selected to investigate the environmental analysis for the conservation and management of the environment. In this study the application of Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) for environmental analysis is also explored.
LAN5043 The Theory and Practice of Modern Urban Landscape 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
In this class, students study the contemporary landscape designers and their works with critical eyes in terms of design theory. The history of Landscape architecture mainly deal with pre-modern eras, but this class more focus on the designers and works in the post-modern times to the present. Research regarding contemporary artist's in architecture and art is actively studied so far but education in landscape architecture area for the trend of comtemporary designs has not been weak. The purpose of this lecture is to explore the design vocabulary that meets the values of the times and to improve the criticism by conveying the tendency of the contemporary landscape which is changing rapidly. Researches, presentations and discussions are held among the students themselves through the class.
LAN5044 Urban Landscape Architecture Research Methods 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
In order to study urban space and urban landscape, it is necessary to understand various research methods. By analyzing the cases of previous studies, the background of theory and various research methods applied in previous studies are studied. Research methods include qualitative research methods, quantitative research methods, and mixed methods. Through the semester students select a research topic, apply a suitable research method, write a research plan, and conduct individual research.
