Why Global Business Administration?

Why study Business?

What do we learn from business studies? More specifically, what is ‘global business’ in the times of convergence of computer engineering technology also known as the ‘4th industrial revolution’?

First, business is an applied science of researching all ways for enterprises to consistently earn money within the legal and ethical boundaries. In other words, it aims to train individual to become professional business people by starting up a company or getting a job.

Major components of business study include finance that assist funding and investment decision making, marketing that assists advertising and sales, accounting that assists cost management and book-keeping, operations management that assists logistics and Supply Chain Management, and strategy that oversees all of the above activities and proposes short- and long-term business plan to win the competition. Also, in Management Information System, we also learn machine learning techniques such as big data to encompass all the aforementioned areas with new IT solutions.

In Global Business Administration, you start to take intro classes of the major subjects from the second year. In the first and second years, you will learn some of the representative basic studies or liberal arts in order to more effectively learn these subjects. They include Economics and Statistics that give foundational knowledge for business, and some computer programming courses. Also, to understand the behavior of businesses, consumers and investors, you will also study eastern and western history, culture, philosophy, foreign languages, psychology and sociology that are basic liberal arts exploring the nature of human beings.

We focus not only on building knowledge but also on helping students share what they know clearly and confidently. To strengthen communication skills, especially in English, students take classes with exchange students and join global networking activities. These experiences give students a strong edge when applying for internships and jobs, and by starting early, they can be well prepared for the global stage.

Why Global Business Administration?

The Global Business Administration conducts all major courses and presentations in English to meet the demands of today's globalized world. It also provides students with a wide range of opportunities to gain international experiences.

First, through the 7+1 program, all GBA students have the opportunity to study abroad for at least one semester as exchange students, allowing them to experience different countries and cultures. Scholarships are provided to support this initiative. Through these experiences, students make friends with international students, look at Korea from more objective perspectives, and get closer to the opportunities to work part time in local companies or working as an intern in global companies depending on the local countries’ business cycle.

Moreover, to offer students meaningful experiences during vacation, various global programs - such as "Global Camp" and "Business Camp" - are organized to enhance students' global competencies. Through these programs, students visit global business sites, meet with professionals, and gain valuable insights into new business opportunities.

Global Camp(conducted annually during the winter vacation)

The Global Camp is designed to broaden students' perspectives by offering visits to various business sites and universities in different countries. The program includes opportunities to meet with industry experts, attend special lectures by international faculties, and experience global business environments firsthand.

Students travel to major business hubs such as Singapore and Hong Kong, where they visit local companies to experience the business atmosphere and engage directly with professionals. Students gain insight into local industries, receive career advice from professionals, and build practical knowledge. Additionally, They connect with alumni who are working or living in the countries, strengthening bonds and building the global SKKU network.

Business Camp(conducted annually during the summer vacation)

To enhance students’ global competencies and provide diverse experiences, we offer the Business Camp program.

Students choose a topic based on a given keyword and travel to a relevant country to carry out research and projects. From planning to execution, participants manage the entire process independently, strengthening their sense of initiative. Through meetings with global companies and professionals, students gain broader insights, helping them explore a wider range of career options.

Participation in the global programs is determined through a competitive, multi-stage selection process based on student applications. Selected students are provided with scholarships to facilitate their engagement in international activities.

And during the semesters, we strongly encourage students to participate in various Global Activities on campus that gives our students great chances to make friends with the students from all around the world. In 2023, students and faculty from Singapore Management University (SMU) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) visited SKKU and participated in cultural exchange events with our students.

Lastly, SKKU GBA operates a dual degree program with Kelley School of Business in Indiana University and with emlyon Business School in France. Students spend four semesters at SKKU and four semesters at one of the partner universities, earning degrees from both institutions. This unique opportunity allows students to build a strong alumni network both in Korea and overseas, gain valuable international experience, and enhance their competitiveness in the global market.
