Global Business Administration(GBA) operated the 2023 Winter Global Camp in Hong Kong from January 29th (Monday) to February 2nd (Friday), 2024. The camp lasted 4 nights and 5 days, with a total of 24 participants (19 students, 4 professors, and 1 staff member).
The Global Camp is a signature program of the Global Business Administration, aimed at enhancing students' global competencies through firsthand experiences in global business environments and opportunities for cultural and academic exchanges with students from overseas universities.
During 2023 Global Camp, the delegation visited two universities.
On January 30th (Tuesday), delegation visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and attended a lecture by Professor Koh Tat Koon on the topic "Can Generative AI Threaten College Education?" The lecture discussed the limitations and rapid advancement of generative AI, and provided an opportunity to discuss the attitudes and skills necessary to adapt to the impending industrial transformations driven by AI development.
Following the lecture, there was a networking dinner session with HKUST students, where they participated in quizzes about each university's history and mission, as well as the cultures (songs, food) of both countries, allowing for a deeper understanding of each other.
On January 31st (Wednesday), at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the delegation attended a finance lecture on international accounting issues, the current state of Hong Kong's financial market, and the fintech industry. This provided an opportunity to learn about the background of Hong Kong becoming Asia's financial hub and the impact of China on Hong Kong's industries.
Following the university visits, they explored the financial industry through visits to two global companies.
On January 31st (Wednesday), they visited Ernst & Young (EY), where they learned about the differing roles of consultants across in-house consulting, consulting firms, and accounting firms, as well as the competence needed to be a successful consultant.
On February 1st (Thursday), they visited Bloomberg, where they were introduced to the company's ESG management philosophy, the qualities required to specialize in research roles, and case studies and information on maximizing business efficiency using Bloomberg Terminal.
Above all, the event that many students mentioned as being particularly motivating was the meeting with the Hong Kong Alumni Association. On January 31st (Wednesday), the delegation met with alumni currently working in Hong Kong. They learned from the experiences and cases shared by their seniors regarding overseas employment opportunities and career development abroad, and had valuable networking time.
Global Business Administration plans to continue running this program in the future to further enhance students' global competencies.
