Starting from the academic year of 2023, the Smart Attendance System (SAM) will be used as the primary method for checking attendance in classes. Instructors have also been briefed on the Smart Attendance System (SAM), and all classes will primarily utilize this method, hence students should review the following details.

* Purpose of the Smart Attendance System (SAM): The goal is to save time and improve class engagement by having students checking in using a mobile app or student ID card, instead of the traditional method of calling out student names.

* Methods for Students to Check Attendance: 

1. Bluetooth Attendance: Enter the classroom and press the 'Check Attendance' button on the mobile app. The attendance is recorded by communicating with a Bluetooth device (beacon) installed on the classroom ceiling. This is the most convenient and preferred method by students (ensure Bluetooth is ON).

2. Tagging at Classroom Entrance Device: Use a mobile student ID or a card student ID to tag at the entrance terminal to check attendance.

3. Attendance by Authentication Number: The instructor displays an authentication number in class, which students enter into the electronic attendance app to confirm attendance (prevents exiting class mid-way).

4. Instructor Calling Names: The instructor calls out names for attendance, similar to the traditional paper attendance method.

*Since students are responsible for their own attendance check, it is crucial not to forget to do so!

*The Bluetooth attendance method is set at an appropriate signal strength to prevent overlap between classrooms, which may vary by location. If Bluetooth (beacon) attendance does not function, follow any of these steps:

- Move to the center of the classroom and try again.

- Use the NFC terminal installed at the classroom entrance.

- Verify attendance directly with the instructor.

Connection Methods (Make sure to download the mobile app before the semester starts!): 

1. WEB (PC) Electronic Attendance: [https://attend.skku.edu/

2. Mobile App: Download 'Sungkyunkwan University Electronic Attendance (성균관대학교 전자출결)’ from the Android Play Store or iPhone App Store.

Time Window for Attendance: 10 minutes before the class starts to 15 minutes after the class begins (instructors can modify this setting).

Attendance Change Request: If unable to attend due to unavoidable reasons (official events, funerals, COVID-19, etc. as determined by the school), students can apply for attendance recognition with supporting documents to the instructor (application through mobile app or web). The instructor will approve or reject the application.

Attendance changes due to annual reserve army training will be handled afterwards in a batch. (Absence due to military medical examination must still be applied for as per the existing process.)

Some instructors may choose not to use the Smart Attendance System, so follow the attendance policy set by the instructor.
