Purpose of Establishment

The Graduate School of Future Policy Studies was established in March 2023 to foster talented students with the ability to provide insights and solutions to various issues in the social sciences. The establishment of GRAFPS was based on the long-standing commitment to social contribution of alumnus Kyu-yong Lee, who donated a large amount of money.

The GRAFPS at Sungkyunkwan University was established to be a new model that will lead the way in interdisciplinary research and education in the social sciences. It is a common perspective among scholars that, despite the outstanding advancements in science and technology, if laws and systems are unable to effectively integrate these advancements into society, their impact will be confined to the realm of technology alone. This is the background behind which GRAFPS was founded. GRAFPS will conduct social science research and education that properly reflects social changes caused by science and technology. The key to community development with scientific achievements, requires the maturity of laws, institutions, and policies based on social scientific understanding.
