Lim Kyung-seok, president of the College of Liberal Arts
was selected as the winner of the the 16th Lim Jong-guk Award
The Lim Jong-guk Memorial Association announced on the November 8th that it selected Lim Kyung-seok, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, as the winner of the 16th Lim Jong-guk Award and the ‘Oka Masaharu Memorial Nagasaki Peace Museum’ as the winner of the social category.
Professor Lim served as a member of the Pro-National Action Committee and chairman of the Korean History Research Association. He made achievements in research in the field of the socialist movement during the Japanese colonial period. His principal publications are ‘Independence Movement Fierce 1 Finding the Forgotten Case’ and ‘Independence Movement Fierce 2 Finding the Forgotten Person’, etc.
The judging committee evaluated, "Professor Lim directly refuted the existing conventional wisdom, contributing to expanding and popularizing the horizon of the independence movement history."
The Nagasaki Peace Museum, which won the prize in the social category, is a historical museum built by citizens in 1995 to continue the maintenance of the late Oka Masaharu, who took the lead in holding Japan responsible for the war.
The museum is voluntarily operated by citizens without government support and has informed the reality of Japanese colonial rule and invasion war through exhibitions, lectures, and exploration. It was evaluated that it contributed to the liquidation of East Asia's past by continuing the peace movement without wavering despite the difficult conditions in which far-right forces are rampant.
Lim Jong-guk (1929-1989) is a historian and literary critic who took the lead in researching pro-Japanese issues and clearing the past by writing "Pro-Japanese Literature Theory" since the Korea-Japan agreement was signed in 1965.
The award ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the November 11th at the International Conference Hall on the 9th floor of the Seoul Global Center.
