The Department of Philosophy at SKKU was originally established as a program within the School of Confucian and Oriental Philosophy in 1967, but changed its affiliation to the College of Liberal Arts in 1978. Our department offers programs leading to BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees.

Our department offers a variety of courses covering a wide range of fields in Western philosophy. Notable strengths of this department are Contemporary Analytic Philosophy and Contemporary European Philosophy. However, we neglect neither traditional areas of philosophy such as Metaphysics and Ancient Philosophy, nor applied areas such as Philosophy of Culture and Philosophy of Art.

Our graduate program offers a top-notch research program in Korea, notably in Epistemology, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Logic, Philosophy of Mathematics, and Phenomenology. Currently, we are strengthening our research excellence to become the number one philosophy program in Korea. Towards this goal, recently our department recruited one foreign professor, a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania in USA, specializing in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy.
