The "In Search for the Origins of Korean Philosophy" course, lectured by Park So-jung, head of the K-Academic Spread Research Center of the Korea Institute of Philosophy and Culture, was opened on the global MOOC platform "Coursera." Created in 2012, Coursera is the world's largest online open class platform with 77 million learners.
This course is a follow-up to "Introduction to Korean Philosophy and Culture," the first Korean philosophy course opened by Professor Park So-jung at Coursera in February 2021, and was newly planned and produced under the theme of exploring the original form of Korean philosophy. If the first course introduced the interesting philosophical elements behind Korean culture at a basic level, this course is an in-depth course that goes back to the days of Korean culture and thought and examines the prototype of what we define as "Korea" within a language-cultural continuum.
In particular, this course is significant in that it is the first of 10 courses in the first year developed by the K-Academic Spread Research Center with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute of Studies from July 2022. Starting with this course, the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center will install additional courses taught by Professor Park So-jung in the first and second years to create a "Coursera Specialization" series on Korean philosophy. After then, Courses taught by full-time faculty members of Sungkyunkwan University's College of Study will also be installed on the Coursera platform.
This course can be taken on the ‘Coursera’ website (https://www.coursera.org/learn/in-search-for-the-origins-of-korean-philosophy), and learners who have completed a total of six weeks of learning after the upgrade can receive a Shareable Certificate issued by Coursera.
