Eastern Philosophy

The Department of Eastern Philosophy provides "Sugichiin," the main philosophy and also the ideal spirit of SKKU. With this basic understanding towards East Asian philosophy, we cultivate an ability to modernize our traditional culture and develop knowledge in culture philosophy, culture criticism and culture industry, along with the study of the traditional culture and arts of East Asia and in depth study of overall modern culture.

With a full understanding of the oriental classics and scriptures we will study philosophy from our point of view focusing on the ultimate goal of Korean studies, while widening the boundary of the discipline to the philosophy and culture of modern East Asia.

In addition, the Department of Eastern Philosophy has not only analyzed the study of classics, Confucianism and traditional philosophy, but also the modernization of China and Korea. Through analysis study of the process of modernization of East Asia we are performing systematic studies to solve this duplicity, which is a positive character of traditional philosophy and ancient regimes.
