School of Convergence’s Culture and Technology Convergence Major WEM Unveils Metaverse Virtual Space with Theme of ‘Rest’ at KMF 2024
From October 17 to 19, five projects created by students from our university were exhibited in collaboration with the company RGB Makers at ‘KMF 2024 Korea Metaverse Festival,’ the largest domestic festival in the metaverse industry, held at the Yangjae AT Center in Seoul’s Seocho District.
WEM, an interactive content association within the Culture and Technology Convergence Major under the School of Convergence and guided by Professor Lee Chang-jun, partnered with RGB Makers for this exhibit. The full name, Wave&E Makers, represents their purpose of generating positive ripples and impact in society.

This year marked the 9th KMF Korea Metaverse Festival, which attracted over 12,600 visitors and hosted 300 booths representing 158 companies. WEM exhibited a virtual space they created for this event, providing on-site guidance to ensure a smooth experience for attendees and contributing to promoting the Global Convergence School.
WEM’s exhibit theme at KMF, Rest, presented a virtual space designed for relaxation and exploration with a joystick controller. Members of the association, including Yu Jin Lee, Yoon Kyung Kang, Ye Seo Kim, Jun Hee Kim, and Young Jin Jeon, created five unique projects: Comma, where one can take a break in a rural village away from crowded city life; RewindEAL, evoking childhood memories; For
, offering aimless strolling in a forest for peace; Gangnyeong (康寧), set against the serene Gangnyeongjeon (Hall of Peace and Health); and Joy Before the Sea, where visitors can find both joy and tranquility at a party and an observatory. Under the guidance of Professor Tae Won Kim, RGB Makers’ CEO and a professor in the Culture and Technology Convergence Major, the association utilized Unreal Engine 5 to develop these immersive virtual spaces with equipment and space support.
Professor Lee Chang-jun, the head of the Culture and Technology Convergence Major, stated, “While VR content exhibits from universities have been showcased at the Korea Metaverse Festival, it’s the first time an association from a single major has organized a booth and displayed works in collaboration with a company. As this is an achievement that students have built independently, it’s both impressive and valuable. Through this exhibit, they explored various immersive contents under the theme of ‘rest’ and observed how users immerse themselves, revealing the power of interactive content and its potential for expansion. I look forward to their future.”

Yu Jin Lee, president of WEM, shared, “We know how rare it is to present our work in the world of professionals, so this experience was incredibly valuable. I want to express my gratitude to Professors Tae Won Kim and Chang-jun Lee for their generous support and encouragement. WEM will showcase our KMF entries at Sungkyunkwan University at the end of this semester, and we plan to keep honing our skills to develop interactive content that positively impacts society. Please look forward to our future work.”
