Sungkyunkwan University Holds 2024 "Sungkyunin Awards" Ceremony

- Grand Prize Honorees: Professor Seonggi Kim (SKKU Institute for Convergence), University Evaluation TFT, Kingo Cheerleading Squad, and Alumnus Deokhee Ryu

Sungkyunkwan University hosted the 2024 “Sungkyunin Awards” ceremony on Friday, December 27, at the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.

Established in 1997, the “Sungkyunin Awards” honor those who have made significant contributions to the development of the University by embodying the founding principle of Sugi Chiin (修己治人)—and by upholding the educational ideals of In-Eui-Ye-Ji (仁義禮智). The awards recognize faculty, staff, and students for their outstanding accomplishments, as well as members of the broader Sungkyunkwan community who have demonstrated exceptional devotion to their alma mater and have contributed to the advancement of the University, the nation, and humanity at large—thereby enhancing the University’s reputation and serving as a role model for all members of Sungkyunkwan.

This year, a total of 10 individuals (or teams) were honored in four categories.

Excellence Award : Professor Eunseok Lee (Software, College of Software)

Merit Award : Professor Seyoung Lee (Media & Communication, College of Social Sciences)

Meanwhile, in the ▲Special Category, the Grand Prize was awarded to Chairman Deokhee Ryu (Department of Chemistry, Class of ’56) of Kyungdong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., who generously donated approximately KRW 12.3 billion to his alma mater, embodying the spirit of “sharing and love.”

President Yu Jibeom, who attended and addressed the ceremony, expressed his congratulations in his commemorative speech: “My sincere congratulations to all who have been honored today for their remarkable contributions in elevating the prestige of Sungkyunkwan University. I would also like to extend my deep gratitude for your dedication. Our University will continue to strive boldly for the future of humanity, working to become a globally respected institution.”
