■강의제목: AI-RAN: Convergence of AI and Radio Access Networks

■Abstract

: In this lecture, we will explore AI-RAN, one of the key topics currently being discussed in the field of telecommunications.

Mobile communication technologies have continuously evolved to cope with increasing traffic demand. However, we are now facing new challenges that go beyond simple capacity expansion. These include inefficient resource utilization and the rapid growth of AI-driven traffic.

In particular, the low utilization of RAN resources and the idle capacity in AI infrastructure highlight structural limitations that are difficult to address with existing network architectures. Against this background, the concept of AI-RAN has emerged, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence with the radio access network. AI-RAN goes beyond improving network performance; it introduces a new paradigm in which communication infrastructure is extended to serve as a platform for AI computation. In this lecture, we will first examine the concept and architecture of AI-RAN, then review global industry trends and key use cases, and finally discuss the overall evolution toward AI-native 6G systems.
