IBT4013 Plant medicine 3 6 Major Bachelor/Master 1-3 Korean Yes
This is the field of applied biology for diagnosing pathological problems and biological disorders of plants, and prescribing medication for the plants. The class of study includes advanced level courses on microbiology as well as basic biology. The students of the department are taught the cutting edge of bioscience like genetic engineering of microorganisms and their industrial uses. Specially plant virus will be more focused because there is no antiviral therapeutics available in the market.
IBT4014 Cancer therapy 3 6 Major Bachelor/Master 1-4 - No
It has been reported that the leading cause of death for Korean in 2019 is cancer related death. So far, many cancer therapy has been developed, however, it can affect the fast-proliferating normal cells, thereby inducing harmful side-effect, or cancer may acquire the resistance for anti-cancer drugs by altering their genetic, transcriptional, epigenetical, metabolic programs as well as via interactions with microenvironment or neighboring cell. Therefore, it is continuously required to develop new anti-cancer therapy. This lecture reviews current cancer therapy, drug-resistance strategies induced by cancer-intrinsic or –extrinsic mechanisms, and introduce and discuss the new developmental strategies for cancer therapy.
IBT4015 Cancer Precision Medicine 3 6 Major Bachelor/Master 1-2 - No
The personalized cancer therapy is defined as a therapeutic approach for the cancer patients based on their genetic backgrounds and has provided the patients durable clinical benefit. Thus, this subject will cover the concept of the precision medicine and its clinical application. Additionally, Next Generation Sequencing has been widely used to determine patient’s genetic background, which will be covered in this class as well as covering actual examples
IBT4016 Advanced Immunology 3 6 Major Bachelor/Master 1-2 - No
This class describes how immunological issues such as functional roles of chemokines, cytokines, complements, and antibody in terms of innate and adaptive immunity and their principles of immune responses, the processes of development, maturation, proliferation, differentiation and cross-regulation can be studied. In particular, for the purpose, recently published articles and reviews will be presented and discussed at the levels of molecular and cellular aspects.
IBT4017 Genome editing 3 6 Major Bachelor/Master 1-2 Korean Yes
CRISPR-mediated genome editing allows researchers to manipulate and rewrite the DNA of various organisms including bacteria, plants, and human cells. It is now widely used for basic research in life sciences and development of gene therapeutics, animal models, and diagnostic tools. This course introduces the history of genome editing technology and the mechanisms and characteristics of various genome editing tools. We will also review representative applications of genome editing, and discuss the future of the genome editing field.
