BTH5079 Cancer immunology and Immunotherapy 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Biopharmaceutical Convergence - No
Cancer is the leading cause of death for Korean. So far, various cancer therapy has been developed. However, some anti-cancer drugs can interfere the cellular functions of fast-proliferating normal cells, thereby inducing harmful side-effect, while cancer may acquire the resistance for anti-cancer drugs by altering their genetic, epigenetic, and metabolic programs. Therefore, there’s been continuous unmet need for developing new anti-cancer therapy. Recently, cancer immunotherapy which harness patients’ intrinsic ability of immune system to eliminate cancer has been emerging, and has replaced or complemented the conventional cancer therapy. The aim of this lecture is understanding cancer cell-intrinsic, -extrinsic mechanisms to avoid immune attack, main players for cancer surveillance and their functions, complex interactions among immune cells, cancer cells and tumor microenvironmental factors and discuss diverse new developmental strategies for cancer immunotherapy.
BTH5087 Advanced Biotechnology 2 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Biopharmaceutical Convergence - No
Biotechnology is technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this to develop or create different products. With the development of genetic engineering in the 1970s, research in biotechnology (and other related areas such as medicine, biology etc.) developed rapidly because of the new possibility to make changes in the organisms' genetic material (DNA). Today, biotechnology covers many different disciplines (eg. genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, etc.). Through this lecture, students present to other students the research topics and progress they are conducting in the laboratory during their master's or doctoral degree programs.
CHS5005 AI Startup and Entrepreneurship 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 Challenge Semester - No
Recent years have witnessed a rapid increase in the number of so-called AI startups with AI as their core value, as the scope of AI's application across all industries has expanded significantly. This is gaining popularity not only in Korea, but globally as well. However, there are no theoretical or empirical guidelines regarding the entrepreneurial skills and business models that AI startups in a hypercompetitive market should possess. It is extremely harsh for those AI startups that are actually traditional businesses dressed up to look like they use AI to to succeed in a very competitive market. For AI startups with inadequate business acumen, gaining a foothold on the market is also a daunting task. By focusing on the following three goals, henceforth, this course aims to assist the growing number of AI startups with their challenges. Firstly, it categorizes the various possible business models for AI startup companies. Secondly, it then examines some of the most prominent domestic and international cases to illustrate the various types of entrepreneurship that AI startups require to thrive. Thirdly, a hypothetical AI startup is created, on a team basis, using real-world software such as Landbot, Stable Diffusion, and a number of no-code ML/DL (machhine learning/deep learning). Then its business model and entrepreneurship are established; and its efficacy is evaluated.

DBC5002 Advanced Skin Immunology 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Interdisciplinary Program in Biocosmetics - No
Skin in our body is tertiary lymphoid organ. It has a lot of different immue cells such as dendrtic cells, keratinocytes, macrophages and mast cells. These cells are involved in protecting skin area from UN irradation, chemical exposure, and infections with bacteria, virus, and fungi. The main function of these cells is giving skin homeostatic balance from various stressful conditions. In this class, how imune cells participate in protecting skin area and how can understand such protective mechanism will be delivered.
DBC5003 Advanced Immunology 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Interdisciplinary Program in Biocosmetics Korean Yes
immune system in our body can be divided into two different categories, innate immunity and adaptive immunity. When our body is infected with various pathogens, innate immunity inherited from our parents will be activated within hours and days. As soon as innate immunity starts, additiona immune response managed by adaptive immunity is also continued to remove infectious materials. In this class, how these two immune responses are manged and regulated to clear out infectious materials and how can we study such phenomena will be delivered.
