PHR5286 | The Biology of Cancer | 3 | 6 | Major | Master/Doctor | Pharmacy | Korean | Yes
Cancer accounts for more than 30% of the causes of death wolrdwide, and its types and causes vary, making it a top priority in future pharmacal research fields. As analysis techniques at the level of genes or proteins led by Single Cell RNAseq have recently become possible, early diagnosis and treatment are becoming possible depending on the type of cancer. However, the vast majority of cancers are still difficult to treat and have significant unmet medical needs. Therefore, this course aims to train future prospective pharmacal researchers with different majors to contribute to the eradication of cancer, mankind's largest disease, by analyzing and understanding cancer in various ways, including molecular biology and pathophysiology. Students who have completed this course may acquire basic knowledge of all fields of tumor biology for cancer prevention and treatment, etc., and cultivate their ability to utilize it for the research of each detailed major. Specifically, in this course, we will learn a wide range of cancer characteristics, differences from normal cells, causes of cancer, pathophysiological mechanisms in the carcinogenesis process, functions of tumor genes and carcinogenic genes, history of anticancer drugs, cancer treatment and prevention strategies.
PHR5287 | Synthetic Biology | 3 | 6 | Major | Master/Doctor | Pharmacy | - | No
Synthetic biology is a multidisciplinary research area to build (or create) novel biological system to produce medically important materials. This course will cover key subjects for synthetic biology including (1) introduction of synthetic biology, (2) recent development in related technologies, (3) designing new pathways (or circuit) to produce materials of interest in a vehicle organisms. During the course, students will be involved in self-problem solving projects, and also student will have 1~3 chance to taking lecturers by invited speakers who are working professionals in the field of research. To encourage students, the course will also provide 1~2 flipped classes during this semester.
PHR5288 | Pharmaceutical industry and Intellectual Property management | 1 | 2 | Major | Master/Doctor | Pharmacy | Korean | Yes
ntellectual property management and strategy in the pharmaceutical/bio industry are becoming increasingly important. The goal of intellectual property rights management is to quickly identify the value of intellectual property rights using all available legal means, such as patent rights, trade secrets, copyrights, trademark rights, and contract law, and to maximize their value by strategically protecting them. This course covers the concept of intellectual property rights (patents, trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks) centered on patents in the process of drug R&D and product development, prior art search, the application and registration process. Based on this, the procedure for filing an Invention Disclosure Form, procedures for maintaining trade secret confidentiality and proprietary information will be covered. This lecture consists of introduction of core theory and lecture and practice on intellectual property rights.
