This course focuses on foundation of theory and introduction of advanced topics. Detailed subjects for theory are problem representation in state space, search strategy including breadth first search, depth first search and heuristic searchand knowledge representation methods such as using predicate logic, resolution and using rules. Advanced topics planning system (STRIPS), neural network and fuzzy techniques such as perceptron and hopfield network with learning methods, computer vision techniques such as image representation, edge detection, line and curve detection are also introduced. Finally, we introduce symbolic programming language, LISP with examples.

In this class, students learn topics related to protein engineering by solving given problem set themselves. Students can raise their trouble-shooting ability. Structure-function relationship of proteins and application to the industry is lectured in this course. Course is composed of lectures including protein production, purification, characterization, structure, kinetics, regulation, modification of its activity, functional mechanism and analysis.

BTH5078 Methods in Computational Biology - Intermediate 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Since the entire human genome was first sequenced in the early 2000, a vast amount of diverse molecular profiles (i.e. DNA, RNA) have been generated from patients over multiple diseases. With the development of computer hardware and software technology necessary for analyzing these molecular data and the growing demand for personalized medicine and treatment, clinical and therapeutic studies using the molecular data have been rapidly increasing, and a huge number of data analysis methods have been introduced. For example, google scholar search with “gene feature selection” which is frequently employed in gene expression based studies outputs ~2,320,000 publications. This course is designed to introduce computational methods to graduate students in biomedical science and related disciplines. I expected students will have no to limited previous knowledge in computational biology. This course covers the most common methods in the field from their fundamental concepts to their practical applications. The completion of this course provides foundational knowledge in reproducible computational analysis and enables students to continue learning relevant tools to suit your research interests in computational biology.
BTH5079 Cancer immunology and Immunotherapy 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Cancer is the leading cause of death for Korean. So far, various cancer therapy has been developed. However, some anti-cancer drugs can interfere the cellular functions of fast-proliferating normal cells, thereby inducing harmful side-effect, while cancer may acquire the resistance for anti-cancer drugs by altering their genetic, epigenetic, and metabolic programs. Therefore, there’s been continuous unmet need for developing new anti-cancer therapy. Recently, cancer immunotherapy which harness patients’ intrinsic ability of immune system to eliminate cancer has been emerging, and has replaced or complemented the conventional cancer therapy. The aim of this lecture is understanding cancer cell-intrinsic, -extrinsic mechanisms to avoid immune attack, main players for cancer surveillance and their functions, complex interactions among immune cells, cancer cells and tumor microenvironmental factors and discuss diverse new developmental strategies for cancer immunotherapy.
