This course is designed to provide an in-depth examination of family policy. Students will identify and critically analyze major policy-related issues and controversies that affect families. Attention will be devoted to recognizing both intended and unintended consequences of family policies and understanding policy challenges and trade-offs.

This course is the first supervised fieldwork which is designed to provide an arena for students to use and intergrate the knowledge, skills and values learned throughout the rest of the Department's curriculum. It focuses on creating unique contributions to student learning : the individualization of the student's learning needs and adaptation of teaching to these needs ; an opportunity for the student to put knowledge to use in the service of others; and an opportunity for the student to experience her/himself in a professional role.

SWF5096 Solution-focused intervention strategy 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
The purpose of this course is to examine solution-focused intervention strategies by subject and type of problems that can be used for changes in individuals, families, groups, and organizations. To achieve this objective, we overview the philosophical paradigm underlying the solution-focused intervention strategies and learn the basic intervention skills based on that paradigm. In order to apply these basic intervention techniques to various subjects and problem situations, we study diverse intervention strategies for those who have been exposed to traumatic events such as disasters, crime, abuse, and sexual violence. The first half of the class consists of lectures and discussions about the philosophical point of view of the solution-focused intervention strategy. Students are supposed to perform role plays in the classroom as a client, social worker, and supervisor. Useful feedbacks are exchanged after role plays. As a final outcome, after applying the learned solution-focused intervention strategies to an actual problem case, students are required to report outcomes.
SWF5097 Health and Disability in Social Change 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
The advancement of medical technology, changes in industrial and population structures, and the emergence of infectious diseases change individuals’ health and disabilities and related social responses. This course will ensure students learn about the features of the social risk of diseases and disabilities in a changing society, in addition to discussing possible solutions and implications for social work practice and policy. The students will examine the latest theories and empirical research trends on stigma, employment, self-determination, reproductive rights, and health care services in relation to health and disability. This course will also ensure students conduct evidence-based research taking into account the sociocultural contexts in Korean society.
SWF5098 New Normal Age Children's Rights and New Social Services 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
The contemporary Korean society is experiencing changes in social, cultural and economic environment and family structure and function. There is a gap between the contemporary view of understanding children and the realization of these values and goals in real social services. This graduate seminar aims to understand the conceptual and methodological basis for analyzing child abuse issues, which are representative issues of child rights, and to analyze the actual social service from the perspective of children's rights and to find new ways for social services to move forward. Through this course, students will practice creative thinking to foster the concept of children's rights and the ability to analyze child abuse, and to propose new directions and specific measures for social services based on critical reviews of the status quo.

This class aims to introduce how the 4th Industrial Revolution influences our lives and how the changes related to the 4th Industrial Revolution affect new social problems. In addition, this class analyzes the adequacy of existing social services and policies against new social problems. Last, this class proposes new alternative social services and policies and how they can work out the new social problems.
