On April 8th, at 6 p.m., the Economics Alumni held the inauguration ceremony for the 13th Student Mentoring Program at Economics Building. The event was attended by distinguished guests including Dean Kim Seonghyun, Student Affairs Officer Lee Junsang, and Department Chair Kim Hyeoncheol, as well as faculty members of the Economics College. Min Byungseon, President of the Economics Alumni Association, Mentorship Committee Chair Kim Giyeon, and Vice Chair Kim Hakgyun also attended the program. They delivered welcoming and encouraging speeches to commence the ceremony.
In his words of encouragement, Min Byungseon, President of the Economics Alumni Association, expressed gratitude to Dean Kim Seonghyun, several professors, and fellow alumni mentors for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend. He also stated plans to continuously expand mentoring events to help more students with career development and job placement.
Furthermore, despite their busy schedules, over 30 senior alumni from the Economics College who have excelled in professions such as lawyers, tax professionals at prominent domestic financial institutions like the Bank of Korea, leading domestic corporations like Samsung Electronics, and law and tax firms, attended the event to establish mentor-mentee relationships with their juniors. They engaged closely with their juniors, sharing candid discussions about career paths, aptitude, and employment prospects. This event was conducted successfully, fostering meaningful connections and discussions among participants.
Especially, this event featured a diverse and enriching mentoring program like never before, including awards for contributions, outstanding mentoring activities, excellent mentorship, mentor-mentee commitments, and mentoring pledges, followed by relay special lectures on the theme of 'Career Perspectives! What Will You Do?' by distinguished alumni mentors such as Jung Nae-gwon (Class of Economics '73, Board Member of Ban Ki-moon Foundation), Isa Baek (Class of Economics '08, Lawyer), and Han Jin-soo (Class of Global Economics '17, Bank of Korea). They candidly shared their firsthand professional experiences and life insights with junior mentees, aiming to provide guidance on how to wisely navigate aptitude and career choices. Their presentations received great enthusiasm and applause from the many attending mentee students.
Dean Kim Seonghyun stated on this day, 'We will continue our efforts to expand opportunities for our Economics College students to participate not only in mentoring events like today but also in various forms of networking and career development programs with outstanding senior alumni who are actively engaged in various industries. Our goal is to provide practical assistance to more of our Economics College students in their employment and career paths.'
