In this course, students learn the pathophysiological findings of various diseases for understanding of their etiology and pathogenesis on macroscopical, histological, cellular and molecular levels. Moreover, this course prepares to be able to develop or improve pathophysiological laboratory theories and methods for the diagnosis, therapy and assessing prognosis in various inflammatory diseases including sepsis and hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury. In particular, this course focuses on the various immune receptors such as toll-like receptors (TLRs) and receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGEs), types of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) recognizing molecules that are broadly shared by pathogens but distinguishable from host molecules.
