[Special Feature] “I try to convey knowledge so that I can interest the students.”
- The business school hired five new professors from the second semester of 2019. Sungkyunkwan University School of Business has invited highly qualified professors and reinforced education and research, business school's core values. We listened to the “major research activities, majors and future plans” of the five new professors who became new members of the business school. Introduce 'Professor Cho Hyun-kwon of Accounting Major' Q1. Hello, Professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself. I'm Cho Hyun Kwon, majoring in accounting at a business school from March. I always feel that self-introduction is not easy. After graduating from business school, I completed my master's degree in accounting, statistics, and Ph.D. in accounting, passed Sejong University, and came to Sungkyunkwan University. I'm interested in a lot of things, not just accounting, and I'm interested in machine learning these days. Q2. Could you introduce your major and why did you choose your major? Accounting is the study of how to communicate and use information in a broad sense. Therefore, I think that the subject of accounting research is limited to financial statements in a narrow way, but in a broad sense, all the information that a company exports, including disclosure, advertising, and Twitter, is subject to research. It's the study of why companies send out certain information, whether it's important information, and how users use it if it's important, to study these questions. This means studying both the position of the provider and user of information. Of course, what you learn in the undergraduate course focuses on the preparation of financial statements and the principles of their composition, so you mainly learn the process of producing information (financial statements.) Actually, I didn't like accounting in the undergraduate course either. But one of the subjects I learned in my undergraduate studies was financial statement analysis, and I was interested in that subject, so I went to graduate school with the aim of studying a little more. When I went to graduate school, as mentioned above, I found it interesting to know that accounting is a subject that studies a wider field beyond the scope of learning in undergraduate studies. So, I chose to study accounting and started studying. Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew here and how you plan for the future? Sungkyunkwan University is a prestigious university recognized by everyone. A prestigious university is not just a nominal pride, but an achievement made by all its members. In particular, I think that the outstanding students who have gone through Sungkyunkwan University have solidified their perception that Sungkyunkwan University is a prestigious university. By conducting classes and research with such outstanding students, I would like to help students who have gone through Sungkyunkwan University spend their time at school without regret. Q4. Could you introduce your class? I teach accounting principles as an undergraduate course. Accounting principles are the subject that teaches the basics of accounting, and through this subject you learn terms such as debtor/creditor and the basics of accounting. What’s more important is to understand the principle that penetrate accounting, as the subject’s name suggests. In modern capitalist society, a basic understanding of financial statements is essential not only in business operations but also in the lives of individuals. In the future, when making decisions based on financial statements, I think that understanding the basic principles of accounting through the subject of accounting principles will help us understand what information we should look for in the financial statements and what the information means. Q5. What is your future studying plan? Currently, my main field of research is the linguistic characteristics analysis of disclosure information. The analysis of language began with the initial simple word-oriented study and is now trying to find useful information by considering context and so on. Although research in this field has become increasingly relevant to language analysis techniques through machine learning, the application of machine learning to disclosure information has not yet begun actively. So I am also continuing my study on machine learning and conducting a study to analyze disclosure information through machine learning. Q6. What is the ideal image of educator? I'm not sure because I'm still in my early days as a professor. Looking back on my school days, there were many differences in the achievement of the classes I was interested in and not. So I'm trying to deliver what I know in a way that interests students as much as possible. But universities don't just end up with the delivery of knowledge. I think it's a place to find answers to questions that have answers until high school, and from college, it's a place to make answers to questions that don't have answers. This problem-solving skill is an area that is commonly called creativity, and no one can exercise creativity to create something from nothing. It is important to accept existing knowledge and digest it in your own way, and apply the results to new problems. If you think about this from the perspective of helping student's learn process, I don't think it's enough to make them accept knowledge. When you need to solve a problem later, it's important to understand what knowledge you need to look for. This is not a task that can be accomplished in individual classes at once, but I would like to provide education that emphasizes the basic principles of organizing knowledge rather than specific knowledge. Therefore, my goal is to provide education that will make base easier for students taking my class to find and understand information they need in the future. Q7. Is there any comment to SKK Business School students? These days, I know that students prepare hard for what they want even if they don’t tell them to work hard. University life is a good opportunity to delve into what you want to do. It doesn't have to be studying. If you do your best in anything and spend time not to regret it when you look back on one semester, one month, one week, I think the four years you spend in business school will remain as a pleasant time.

- The business school hired five new professors from the second semester of 2019. Sungkyunkwan University School of Business has invited highly qualified professors and reinforced education and research, business school's core values. We listened to the “major research activities, majors and future plans” of the five new professors who became new members of the business school. First, I introduce 'Professor Kim Yong-seok of Management Information System (MIS)'. Q1. Hello, Professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself. Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Kim Yong-seok. I am happy and excited to be a member of Sungkyunkwan University's Business School, which has undergone brilliant innovation and development over the past two decades, and I also feel a heavy responsibility. Before moving here, I worked as an assistant professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for seven years and an associate professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies for one and a half years. I also worked at IBM Business Consulting Services for two years before I went to graduate school and worked on IT consulting projects related to oil refining and automobile industries. Q2. Could you introduce your major and why did you choose your major? My major in Business Administration is Management Information System (MIS). The management information system refers to a system that oversees information that occurs within and outside a company, and MIS majors get to have the ability to view and understand various IT-based business phenomena and problems from a technology, economy, psychology, or organization perspective. I think the charm of this major is diversity and dynamism. Keywords that penetrate MIS are information and communication technology, people, information, and organizations (or markets), the business phenomena that these combinations create are not only diverse, but also repeats change and draws dazzling digital innovations. I chose MIS as my major because I liked to follow and study it. Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew here and how you plan for the future? I love the passion and energy of the school members who continue to work hard without being complacent about the tangible results and developments they have achieved. As schools invest a lot in artificial intelligence and big data, I expect new opportunities for learning and research will be opened. My plan for the future is simple. It is to contribute to academia and industry through research with many implications, and to the growth of students through quality education. In addition, I will try to contribute to the development of Sungkyunkwan University's business school based on my experiences as a student and professor while living abroad to college for 15 years. Q4. Could you introduce your class? The class I teach in the undergraduate department is "Management Information System". As MIS is an area of study of the various IT-based business phenomena, I would like to present students with the business phenomena and themes associated with the ongoing digital innovation represented by machines, crowds, and platforms. Specifically, I would like to teach students about digital economy and platform business, shared economy, crowdsourcing, digital disruptive innovation, big data, relational/nonrelational databases, machine learning, deep learning, etc. through various examples. Q5. What is your future studying plan? In the meantime, I have mainly studied on topics related to enterprise social media widely used within global companies, knowledge sharing on online community platforms, and networking. Currently, I'm studying the company's response to customer complaints on Twitter and marketing using influencer on Instagram by applying social media text and image analysis techniques using machine learning. In addition, I began to study the platform business that revolutionizes through collaboration with the crowd. Specifically, I'm interested in community-based crowd sourcing platforms that promote software development through online contests like TopCoder and crowdfunding platforms that recruit sponsors by using social media networks. I've finished collecting and analyzing data and I'm writing a paper. Please contact me if you are interested in this research field! Q6. What is the ideal image of educator? I recently reflected on myself while talking about education with a senior professor. I reflected on myself that I was teaching students in a uniform way as if they were a group of knowledge-absorbers while I was teaching highly personalized products and services that became possible amid the wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. I think the ideal educator is someone who can go beyond the role of a simple knowledge communicator to understand what thoughts, worries, and dreams each student has in this era and help them grow intellectually and mentally. I heard that one of the things you shouldn't do as you get older is to give advice that no one has asked. I hope to be an educator who can give advice, "helpful or enlightening with words," when needed. Q7. Is there any comment to SKK Business School students? Listen to the class sincerely, study hard to get good grades, build up various qualifications... I think there are many students who live hard like this. I'd like to tell them, "Let's look at the forest first, not just at the trees." I've often seen cases in which I seem to be walking hard but can't make a clear path forward and wander in the woods. Knowing what my dream is and where I want to pursue will make it easier to balance and decide something in an infinite sea of choices.

- The business school of our school declares a 『Student Success Roadmap for Excellent Graduate School Students』
-
The business school of our school declares a 『Student Success Roadmap for Excellent Graduate School Students』 - implementation of “UofSC(South Carolina) Ph.D Dual Degree Program” - Implementation of the Student Success Scholarship System for Excellent Master/Excellent Doctor In order to train outstanding global researchers, this school's business school (Dean Kim Yong-joon) declared a 『Roadmap for Student Success at Graduate School of Business』 and announced that it will provide the first way to obtain multiple degrees through education (one-year our school and one-year UofSC) by signing an academic exchange agreement with the University of South Carolina. Also, a scholarship system for excellent master’s and doctorate course students will be newly established to exempt all of the tuition fees for the first semester for excellent master’s degree fostering student (within five students per semester), and a system will be implemented to provide 2 to 3 million won in scholarships per month for two semesters (with master's degrees) or one semester (doctor's degrees). ‘Student Success Roadmap for Excellent Graduate School Students’, which was recently declared by the business school, is regarded as an unconventional system in that it presented the first way for a student selected as an excellent master’s degree student to go to a doctoral degree, to study and research at this school and UofSC, and to obtain multiple degrees for the first time in a general graduate school. To this, business school selected excellent graduate students by comprehensively evaluating their potential research capabilities, potential for development, and creativity, and on June 1, they invited academic advisers and scholarship students to hold a scholarship ceremony and a meeting. The event was attended by Kim Yong-joon, president of the business school, professor Kim Young-han, and Park Ki-woo, as well as Lee Sun-hyuk (a master's degree student, a major professor: Kim Young-han) and Kim Han-min (a Ph.D. student, an advisor: Park Ki-woo). Lee Sun-hyuk, who was selected as an excellent master’s degree scholarship student, expressed his ambition, saying, “It is true that I am very happy to be selected as the first scholarship student, but I feel a lot of pressure” and “I want to pursue my studies and research in the future and become a globally competitive scholar, and then become a professor at my alma mater” Kim Yong-joon, president of the business school, who hosted the meeting, encouraged students and presented them with certificates of scholarship. And he said, "We will support excellent students to focus more on academic research through the first scholarship system for excellent master/excellent doctor at the business school, and we hope that scholarship students will grow into talented people.”
It is implemented from the first semester of 2020 as a roadmap for fostering excellent researchers in business schools. It aims to support students who are eligible to enter general graduate schools with excellent research potential from entering master's courses, entering doctoral programs, entering doctoral degrees at prestigious universities abroad, and training them as world-class scholars. Step 1 Excellent Master’s degree Fostering Scholarship (Excellent students in the admission process for master's degree; full exemption from tuition fees for the first semester); new 2020.1 semester (within five students per semester) Step 2 Excellent Master’s degree Scholarship (excellent potential research capabilities possessor; 2 million won for 2 semesters/scholarship payment per month), selection of 1 person for the 2020. 1 semester (within five persons per year) Step 3 Excellent Doctorate Scholarship (excellent research achievement possessor; 3 million won for 1 semesters/scholarship payment per month), selection of 1 person for the 2020. 1 semester (within five persons per year) Step 4 UofSC (University of South Carolina) 1+1 Doctorate Scholarship: selection of 2 persons for the 2020. 1 semester (within two persons per year) Step 5 Support for the appointment of prestigious universities and research institutes in Korea and abroad -

- The life of a wise Sungkyunkwan Business person in handling COVID-19 - Professor Lee Jong-eun
- Our university has announced that online lectures will conduct until the end of COVID-19. It was unfamiliar at first as it was being conducted as an online lecture for the health and safety of all students, but gradually, the semester is passing by in search of stability. Today, we listened to Professor Lee Jong-eun, who communicates with students through online lectures. He had become the head of the department of business administration this year and he want to provide a venue for harmony for not only freshmen but also all classmates. Let's meet Professor Lee Jong-eun. 1. Hello Professor^^ Please introduce yourself. Hi~ I'm Lee Jong-eun. I'm major in finance and also in charge of the head of the department of business administration. 2. Every lectures are going through on online. Is there any problem when you conduct recording lecture or live lecture? I think it could be something that all professors felt. Face-to-face lecture is conducted on scheduled time, and students communicate by looking each others eyes. But, recording lectures are made by professors themselves. So, professors are more concerned about how they will be shown in the video, whether their voices are okay, and whether their lectures are faithful than face-to-face lectures. Perhaps, they are working harder to provide a better lecture to students who are struggling in the COVID-19. In fact, most professors say that they put more effort and time into preparing for lectures than in face-to-face lectures by filming and editing lectures. Real-time video lectures, similar to face-to-face lectures, are a good way to compensate for the shortcomings of one-way pre-production video lectures. However, it seems that interaction with students is not effective in the online educational environment, especially in the number of students is high. The professors are very sorry about this. After the COVID19 era, we hope that there will be a new way of real-time video lecture technology that can supplement it. So far, online education in our school has been going well due to the active response and support at the school level and the calling of professors and faculty members. All members of our business school, led by the dean, have been making constant efforts to ensure and improve the quality of learning in difficult environments through pre-learning through pre-produced lecture videos, in-depth lectures using real-time lectures, and Q&As. However, smooth communication between professors and students remains a big challenge to solve. 3. Do you have any memorable online classes? Please tell me if you have any episodes. Real-time online lectures are conducted by professors and students accessing video lecture tools such as Webex and Zoom. Students are often not good at manipulating software for unfamiliar video lectures. For example, students get into lectures, they often forget that their microphone is on. During my graduate class, their spouse or children suddenly come into their room to talk to them. Although the situation ends quickly by contacting the student right away, embarrassing and embarrassing things often happen when others unintentionally hear private conversations. 4. What do you want to do after COVID19? As I work as the head of the department at the business school, I would like to meet all the freshmen who entered the business administration department at Sungkyunkwan University this year. In the midst of the fiery college entrance exam war, freshmen in our business department have endured their dreams in the ivory tower of truth called college, imagining a romantic college life with their friends, but because of the unexpected ambush of COVID19, you must have felt the despair of the dream being shattered. I would like to comfort them through meetings with freshmen in our business administration and to hear from them about the COVID19 experience and talk about the post COVID19 era they will face. Also, I would like to provide a place for harmony, communication, advancement, and leap forward for all students in the Business School. 5. Lastly, please say a word to Sungkyun, who is taking an online lecture at home. With COVID19, we've heard the term "non-face-to-face" more closely. After the COVID19, I think that non-face-to-face will dig deeper into our daily lives than face-to-face and change our way of thinking and living. Digital civilization is at the heart of the non-face-to-face. Even now, in the wave of the Fourth Revolution, we are learning how to use a rather unfamiliar digital civilization. COVID19, which no one had expected, is pushing us to learn about digital civilization and to find clues to how to live in a changed environment. You may think of this as a crisis, but I hope you see the current situation as a new opportunity to change the game. Therefore, we hope that our students will not step back and boldly fight against COVID19 to create a better world with a sense of challenge and creativity. When you enter society after graduation, we expect that the non-face-to-face experience will become a more everyday business environment. It's time to anticipate this changing business environment and think deeply about how to prepare for it. This is a transition period that adapts to digital civilization. There may be differences between generations living in the same era in adapting to digital civilization and getting the information they need. It is important to have a sense of competition to get ahead of others by using the digital divide among members, but I hope that our students will have greater generosity and consideration to help their classmates who are not well adapted to digital civilization and have a warm heart to go with them. In a digital civilization environment where there may be a lack of human warmth, the spirit of symbiosis and co-prosperity can flow the moist river of warmth among the members, which will make our lives more prosperous. I hope you always do your best in the unexpected environment caused by COVID19 and show a win-win spirit. Most of all, I hope we can meet our students on campus as soon as possible with in good health. ^^

- The life of a wise Sungkyunkwan Business person in handling COVID-19 - We are responsible for the safety of our place!
-
Although COVID-19 continues to make a sad situation around the world, all members of the business school are doing their best in their respective positions to ensure that the first semester of the 2020 school year is going smoothly while putting safety first. We wish the end of COVID-19 coming within a short period of time so that all business school families can meet in a healthy way on campus. Today, I met a person in charge of safety on the first floor of the management center. Though outsiders were abandoned from entering schools and management centers due to COVID-19, strict management is required as professors, faculty members, some students and workers go to the management office every day. I met with the manager in charge of the safety of the management center until the whole situation stabilized and the semester began, and I put a message of support.
Entering the first floor of the management center, we can meet a friendly greeting from the man. He is the one who measures body temperature. Due to COVID-19, outsiders must fill out their personal information and measure their body temperature to enter. It is strictly controlled to take responsibility for the health of all faculties and students in management office. The school is responsible for the safety of all those who enter and exit the management center, including professors filming online lectures, some students and staffs, and workers that clean the management office. "I'm not just measuring body temperature, also acting as a guide of here. We are handling all small complaints as well as location information. Currently, outsiders are prohibited from entering the area, so I feel sorry when I have to send back those who come from afar. However, we kindly explain the situation and ask for your cooperation. I hope things calm down as soon as possible and get back to normal." “In the beginning, it was difficult to check the temperature and personal information. It's a first time to all people and it feels strange... But thank you for your active cooperation now. We will do our best to ensure everyone's safety." He is a thankful person who protects our safety facing the beginning and end of the day at the management center. If we meet on the first floor of the management office, why don't we thank them? -

- The Life of a Wise Sungkyunkwan Business person in Handling COVID-19_A Student Interview with Han Joo-eun
- Along with the warm weather, a summer came to Sungkyunkwan University's Humanities and Social Sciences Campus. Although the situation continues to be unfortunate around the world due to the COVID-19, all members of the business school are doing their best to ensure that the first semester of the 2020 school year is going smoothly while putting safety first. I hope that the COVID-19 will be over soon, so that all business school members can meet in good health on campus. Today, I met with Han Ju Eun, a business student who is watching an online lecture because of the postponement of the opening of the class due to COVID-19. Our university has decided to conduct online lectures for the health and safety of all students until the end of COVID-19. It was unfamiliar at first but gradually settled down, and the first semester has already passed. Let's hear how our students are spending their time with COVID-19. Q. Nice to meet you. Please introduce yourself. Hello! I am Han Ju Eun, Department of Business Administration Class of 17.^^ Q. All lectures are conducted online, what are the merits and demerits of taking online lectures? I think the biggest advantage of online lectures is that you can watch them until you understand them! Offline lectures are lively and it’s much better to interact with professors and students, but in online lectures, you can listen to the parts I don't know 100 times. And it has the advantage of being able to move on quickly to what you already know or understand. In addition, the flexibility to take classes whenever possible is also an advantage. (Except for real-time classes) I think I can take classes in the best condition through online lectures because there can be situations where I'm not suitable for studying, such as having an emergency or getting tired! However, sometimes there’s an acoustic problem or a technical problem. But most of the problems seem to be fixed quickly, so l’ve never felt very uncomfortable. (except for server down on Sunday^^ I almost had a heart attack…). Still, I use online lectures well because school keeps managing servers and uploading system! Q. Do you have any online lectures you remember? The most memorable online lecture is a real-time streaming lecture! The professor played with words in real time, and I laughed out loud at the café alone. If it was a normal class, I would laugh lightly, but am I the only one who finds it more interesting because I'm online? In addition, interacting with students and professors through real-time lectures was interesting and fun! The friends watching through the video were new, too! I think there was a little fun in class because of my classmates who used to turn on the microphone sometimes. Q. In the case of the team project, how did you proceed with the assignment? The professors in my class have actively used online lecture tools! In the case of real-time classes using ZOOM, the large class was able to have a small group of four people for real-time meetings! In other classes, each group has a meeting on the topic of discussion before the real-time class, and during the class, the representative present it during the class. Most of the classes were organized neatly, so there was no difficult with the team project! Q. What do you want to do after COVID-19? It’s getting hot all of a sudden(T.T) If COVID-19 ends as soon as possible, I would like to go swimming with my friends on a hot day. I wanted to enjoy my last school life as a graduating senior, but I couldn't. Therefore, In the second semester, I hope you can face many school events that you couldn't do in the first semester! Q. Lastly, please say a word to all members of the business school who is overcoming COVID-19. Our wonderful SKK business members, I’m sure you’re all enjoying your life own places even in the COVID19 situation! Let’s be a little more careful and cheer up! We are a wonderful SKK business member who has overcome this adversity. I’ll see you on campus in the second semester with a lot of fun after overcoming the tough situation^_^
