- Youngsoo Park (Commercial Science ’58) donates one hundred million KRW
- Youngsoo Park (Commercial Science ’58) visited Jung-Don Seo, the president of Sungkyunkwan University to donate one hundred million KRW for scholarship fund. Mr. Park said “By virtue of scholarships for 6 years, I could graduate from university and graduate school which would be impossible on my own. I have never forgotten about it. I just want to say to the young students not to lose hope.” Mr. Park joined Sun Kyung Corp. in 1966 and he became a head of Europe, Middle East, and Africa Division when he was 42. - Geunmyeon Lee (W-AMP 1st batch), CEO of SAMSUNG Fiber Optics Geunmyeon Lee (58. W-AMP 1st cohort) joined Samsung Group in 1976 and has worked as a human resources director for 30 years. Mr. Lee said that he used to value one’s attitudethe most when recruiting personnel before but now values more the one who knows one’s own mind. Adding that, ”Creativity is becoming important these days. It is more important what kind of contents one has when working than what kind of attitude one has.” Mr. Lee is going to be listed in Marquis Who's Who in 2011 as a HR expert. Marquis Who's Who, a subsidiary of News Communications, Inc., is the American publisher of a number of directories containing short biographies of influential persons. Entries in Marquis Who's Who books list career and personal data for each biography, including education, writings and creative works, civic activities, awards, political affiliation. Marquis Who's Who states that the selection of individuals for listing in its publications is based on reference value. Individuals become eligible for listing by virtue of their positions and/or noteworthy achievements that have proved to be of significant value to society. Mr. Lee also mentioned that one should have keen insight rather than educational specialties and this can be gained through constantly reading newspapers and a variety of books. There are too many university graduates compared to the available jobs. - Changkyu Lee, Vice President at Hite-Jinro Group
- Mr. Changkyu Lee, vice president at Hite-Jinro Group, visited Sungkyunkwan University for the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program on October 28th. Mr. Lee began his lecture by defining the CEO role. He said that stock prices do not meet analysts’ expectations since there are too many uncertainties, hence one should change constantly in order to adapt oneself to the uncertainty. According to Mr. Lee, the CEO is the right expression for a person who plays a pivotal role in change and leadership of the organization. He mentioned that the role of a CEO should be applied differently upon nations, companies, and governance structures of companies. Ultimately, a successful CEO is up to the ability of how he/she is flexible in responding to changes. HITE Group was first established in 1933 under the name of Chosun Beer Co., Ltd., the first beer company in Korea. The Hite-Jinro Group, Korea’s largest liquor maker, was formed after Hite Breweries acquired Jinro in 2005. Hite-Jinro currently has 60 percent of the Korean beer market and over half the soju market.

- Choongwon Kwon (W-AMP 10thcohort) chosen for ‘2010 Sungkyun Journalists Award’ Sung Eon Hoi, vice president of SBS, said Choongwon Kwon, chief editor of Herald Economics, was chosen for the 2010 Distinguished Sungkyun Journalists Award. He received the award at a ceremony held at the 2010 regular general meeting on Nov 22nd. Mr. Kwon, editorial director of The Herald Business (W-AMP 10th cohort, Economics ‘78) joined The Herald Business in 1989 as a senior reporter and served as a securities manager. Before landing his current position of editorial director since March of 2010, he worked as an editorial writer, financial editor, deputy director, and a director of strategy and marketing.

- Students Rush to Korean MBA Schools
- Foreign students rush to Korean MBA schools increased sharply by 43% in the second half of the year. An increasing number of foreign students are applying to local graduate schools of business administration, said the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Nov 15. A total of 1,482 people applied for admission in the 900-member quota this fall semester, resulting in a competition rate of 1.6 to 1, the ministry said. In the second biannual admission recruitment for 13 local graduate schools of business administration, 123 of 900 newly enrolled students were foreign nationals, a 43 percent rise from 86 in the first half of the year, officials said. The foreign students were admitted into nine schools 23 for Sungkyunkwan University, 39 for Korea University, 29 for Yonsei University, and 13 for Seoul National University. U.S. and Chinese nationals topped the list with 27(22%) and 25(20.3%), respectively, followed by Indian (9), Uzbek(6) and U.K.(5) nationals, said the ministry. The use of English has also begun in local MBA courses. Among the 46 courses, 39 (84.8 %) have newly opened English classes and 12 courses nine full-time and three part-time will be led exclusively in English. Most schools are also working to acquire international recognition from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business or the European Quality Improvement System in the near future. - Mr. Sungha Chi, CEO of Samsung C&T Corporation’s Trading & Investment Group visited Sungkyunkwan University to deliver a special lecture for the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program on Dec 9. Mr. Chi explained about key business areas and vision of Samsung C&T Corporation. According to Mr. Ji, the management philosophy of Samsung is to pursue a global value creating company that creates the best value for customers, employees, and society through endless creativity and challenging spirit in diverse fields and regions. Also Mr. Chi mentioned that Samsung C&T designated energy, the key to mankind and industrial advancement, as a core business area, cooperating with business partners to engage in businesses such as securing and supplying of energy sources, operation of power plants. He mentioned that Samsung Group is pushing for ‘Green Energy Complex Establishment Project’ as part of social contribution. Mr. Chi earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Sungkyunkwan University in 1978 and master’s degree in Business Administration (Financial Management) from Korea University Business School in 1998. Before his current position as a president & CEO of Samsung C& T Corporation since 2006, he had worked for Samsung Corning, secretarial section of Samsung (Planning and Public Relation Department, Management Support Department) as a director, and Samsung C& T Corporation as vice-president. Samsung C& T Corporation was founded in 1938 and is the origin of Samsung Group. Since it’s nomination as the first-ever general trading company in Korea in 1975, Samsung C& T has been conducting complex trading and investment operations. Samsung C& T has now also balanced the two branches of Engineering & Construction Group and Trading & Investment. It has more than 7,000 employees in over 90 overseas offices in 45 countries.

- Changmoo Ryu, Chairman and President of The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation
- A special lecture for Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO was delivered by Mr. Changmoo Ryu, Chairman and President of The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure), on Dec 2. Mr. Ryu mentioned K-sure’s basic directions of boosting the small and midsize enterprises competitiveness in global markets, strengthening export support, and securing the basis for export credit insurance business. The scope of K-sure’s coverage expanded to include import transactions, transactions to secure to overseas natural resources, and transactions expected to secure the export platforms. Mr. Ryu introduced vision of K-sure: the best trade insurance agency in the forefront of the leading trade nation. In order to achieve it, domestically K-sure is providing comprehensive support by strengthening Korea's national competitiveness and national economy while internationally, is pursuing to become the best official export credit agency having competitiveness. Mr. Ryu earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Sungkyunkwan University and master’s degree in Business Administration, Brunel University, England. He passed the civil service examination in 1973 and served as Deputy Director/Director of Planning and Budget Division, General Service Division, The Ministry of Energy and Resources, and Director of Natural Resource Division and Nuclear Power Division. In 2003, he served as an administrator of the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) and has been working as a chairman & president of The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation since 2008. Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure) was founded by the Korean government in 1992 to operate export and import insurance programs for the purpose of facilitating global trade. Now it is growing to provide comprehensive financial support services related with overall trade; from covering the non-payment risk of export proceeds to helping exporters and importers to obtain financing needed at the time of procuring raw materials and from the time of manufacturing until export proceeds is recovered.

Money Today Broadcasting held a forum on the topic of Strategic Applications of Social Media at Yeouido Korea Financial Investment Association on Dec 1. This Social Media forum, co-hosted by Money Today, Hi Tech Marketing Group, SSK(Social Science Korea) ‘Internet Spending Culture’ Research Center was the first of its kind held in Korea. It was composed of presentations by experts from diverse sections of media.

Prof. Cha will begin his one-year term as chairman in January 2012. The Korean Academic Association of Business Administration was established in 1988 and is currently composed of approximately 2,900 members of professors of business administration and related academic fields and industries. The organization publishes DAEHAN Journal of Business registered in the Korea Research Foundation, a national organization dedicated to social and scientific development through the promotion of scientific research, and holds academic conferences on a regular basis.
