- SKKU Business School Alumni Association holds Alumni Chairmen’s Meeting
- SKKU Business School Alumni Association invited past and current chairmen and general managers of all SKKU Business School departments to a meeting on March 25th to discuss the revitalization of the alumni association and construction of the 2nd Business Building. The meeting was attended by 21 alumni from 1962 to 1993 representing the departments of Commercial Science, Commerce, Industrial Psychology, Accounting, and Business Administration. Ik-Rae Kim (Commercial Science ’62), chairman of Deloitte Anjin LLC, said that construction of the 2nd Business Building will require more participation from alumni than ever before. Mr. Kim added that pledges of 1.1 billion won in contributions have been made by 355 alumni so far with the goal of reaching a total of 1,000 alumni within this year. Attendees of the meeting recognized the importance of constructing the 2nd Business Building in order to nurture the excellent young scholars of Sungkyunkwan University and to enhance the School’s status.

- Dr. Jeongsik Kim awarded ‘Best Lecturer’
- Dr. Jeongsik Kim of SKKU Business School was awarded the ‘Best Lecturer’ based on the results of 2009 Course Evaluation. Dr. Kim received his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, master’s and doctoral degree in Business Administration from Sungkyunkwan University. He has been teaching Organizational Behavior and Organizational Design at SKKU Business School since September, 2007. He also teaches Global Leadership and Leadership Workshop to undergraduate students. Dr. Kim has been proved himself as a best lecturer by getting high points from the course evaluation each semester. He has been working as a research professor and also has been in charge of Student Support Development Center and gives students on career counseling. Dr. Kim received the award from the dean of SKKU Business School, Dr. S.Ghon Rhee On June 25.

- MOU established with the Ohio State University
- Go Global! Go SKKU Business School ! Dr. S. Ghon Rhee, dean of SKKU Business School, and Dr. Anil Makhija, professor of finance from Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University, completed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between their two schools on June 18th. Professor JB Chay, Professor Dong Ok Chah, and Mr. Chan-Suk Lee, head of the Business Administration Office, attended the signing. The Ohio State University (OSU) is a co-educational public research university in the state of Ohio. The university was founded in 1870 as a land-qrant university and is currently the largest university in the United States. Ohio State is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the best public university in Ohio, among the top 60 universities in the U.S., and among the top 20 public U.S. universities. Fisher College of Business is consistently ranked as one of the top 20 MBA programs in the U.S. Fisher College is world-renowned for its individual areas of expertise, including corporate finance, brand management, and supply chain management. Notably, Fisher College was ranked third in the U.S. for its leadership in supply chain management. The SKKU Business School – Fisher College of Business MOU calls for the creation of a dual degree and student exchange programs. With this addition, SKKU Business School now has two dual degree program partners that include Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and Indiana University Kelly School. SKKU Business School students will benefit through new opportunities not only to acquire degrees by pursuing their studies in top business school environments, but also to participate in international internships, job fairs and interviews. SKKU Business School has established MOUs with 573 universities from 60 countries around the world. Since Dr. S. Ghon Rhee’s inauguration as dean of SKKU Business School, he has been actively working to expand partnerships with top-level universities abroad.

- Jae-Keun Bae gives special lecture
- The Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program has ended with a special lecture by Jae-Keun Bae, CEO of CREDU. CREDU started as the Cyber Learning team of Samsung Human Resources Development Center and was spun off in May of 2000. CREDU provides e-learning services to government organizations, corporations and employees to assist them in reaching their training goals. It offers 1,400 ready-to-use, top-quality e-learning courses covering business soft skills, job skills, IT and the OPIc test. Mr. Bae received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pusan National University and received his master’s degree from Yonsei University. Before his current position, Mr. Bae worked at Cheil Worldwide where he held a variety of management positions in human resources and information strategies development, business operations support, and sales and promotion. Mr. Bae has also served as a director at GBS HQ, BTL, and at Media of Cheil Worldwide Inc. Mr. Bae has had a variety of valuable professional experiences. During his lecture, he stressed that only capable people can take up alternative roles in the rapidly changing society of today, and thus it is most important to retainhighly skilled professionals in order to achieve the sustainable growth of an enterprise.

- Special lecture by President Hae-Sun Lee of CJ O Shopping
- “For dynamic marketing, the priority should be given to grasping the point of what the problem of an enterprise is. There may be a number of solutions, but the most important thing is to find the best way to persuade customers.” Hae-Sun Lee, President of CJ O Shopping Company Limited, focused on the importance of dynamic marketing during his lecture on May 27th. In his lecture, Enterprise and Business in the Era of a Web Smart Generation, Mr. Lee explained what the solutions for originality and creation are. About the current change in the web market, for example, he mentioned that it is required to cope flexibly with the recent adoption of web 2.0 related markets since the change from web 1.0 to web 2.0 is due to the emergence of the iPhone. Web 2.0 sites provide users with information storage, creation, and dissemination capabilities that were not possible in the environment of web 1.0. Mr. Lee mentioned again that it is important to build a culture of “customer first, creativity and challenge” within a company and to promote a self-disciplined management that realizes customer-first practices and doubles its effectiveness and results, while at the same time establishing people-oriented management processes. CJ O Shopping Company Limited is formerly known as CJ Home Shopping Company Limited. CJ O Shopping was the first TV home shopping organization in Korea and has grown to become a company recognized on the global stage with China Dongbang CJ and India Star CJ. The Group's principal activities are the provision of TV home shopping, an internet shopping mall and catalogue sales services.

- Prof. Myong-Sop Pak received the President’s award at the Marine Day Ceremony

On May 31st, Professor Myong-Sop Pak, faculty of SKKU Business School, received the President’s award at the 15th Marine Day Ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs at COEX. Professor Pak established the Korea Association of Maritime Business, and he has been running the association and writing on marine related topics. Professor Pak’s publications include the articles Understanding Global Trade, A Comparative Study of the Fisheries Laws of Korea and Japan in the Era of the WTO and Sustainable Fisheries and books such as Understanding Global Trade and Global Business English on the Ocean. Fifteen years have past since Marine Day was first designated on May 31, 1996. This year’s 15th celebration was held at COEX with an audience of about 1,000 that included the prime minister, members of the National Assembly, and members of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. This ceremony was held to praise the efforts of the employees working on issues related to maritime affairs and fisheries. -

- John Wylie, President and CEO of ING Life Korea
- On May 20th John Wylie, president and CEO of ING Life Korea, provided a special lecture entitled Corporate Social Responsibility and Talent Management for the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program. John Wylie has a BA in Arts from Macquarie University in Australia. Prior to joining ING Life Korea in 1992, Mr. Wylie worked for the Institute of Actuaries of Australia which is an organization representing the actuarial profession in Australia. In 2000, Mr. Wylie served as a deputy managing director at ING Australia and as a regional general manager of ING Insurance Asia-Pacific Regional Office from 2003 to 2006. During this period, Mr. Wylie gained extensive knowledge of the Korean financial markets and made a significant contribution to the success of ING Life Korea.

- Kwang-kyun Lee is appointed president of KORAIL Retail
- Kwang-kyun Lee (Business Administration ’68) has been appointed as president of KORAIL Retail Corporation. Mr. Lee is a graduate of Sungkyunkwan University and he has spent his career working at Hyundai Group, Hyundai Aluminum Co.,LTD, Hyundai Department Store, H&S, and Korea Logistics. - President and CEO of SC First Bank, Richard Hill
- Richard Hill, President and CEO of Standard Chartered First Bank, provided a special lecture on May 13th as part of the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program. He began his lecture with greetings in fluent Korean. Richard Hill joined Standard Charter in January 2006 as the Chief Financial Official of Global Consumer Banking based in Singapore. In January 2008, he relocated to Seoul, Korea, to take up his current position as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Official and Head of Strategy of Standard Chartered First Bank. As of December 17, 2009, he became the President and CEO of Standard Chartered Korea and Standard Chartered First Bank. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he had worked for 19 years in the consumer goods industry holding sales, marketing, finance and general management roles including a 10-year period working in Italy and Greece. He led the successful listing of Allied Domecq PLC onto the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 2002 and subsequently became Chief Financial Official and Chief Operating Officer in the creation of the first global premium wine business with large-scale production and sales operations on five continents. Richard Hill has a bachelor of Commercial Science in Physics with Medical Physics from the University of Exeter and speaks five languages including English, Italian and Greek.

- None can compete with SKKU Business School! Korea First, Global Standard Management of Technology(MOT)! SKKU Global Business Administration program (GBA), which was established in 2008, is now acknowledged as a “luxury department” for students. Focused on providing a high quality experience, the program matches students’ growing interest in joining specialized departments. GBA sophomore, Da-Hae Hong, explained that her experience reminds her of studying in the US although she now lives in Seoul. The biggest attraction for Ms. Hong was the chance to earn a dual degree. Students of GBA can earn a degree granted by Kelley School, Indiana University by studying in Indiana as an undergraduate for one and a half years. Ms. Hong also added that the fact people from Kelley School come to SKKU annually gave her pride and confidence in the program. SKKU Business School’s undergraduate mission is to provide knowledge of business administration combined with liberal arts and sciences, plus global perspectives on businesses and international relations and opportunities for realizing students' highest potentials for the global market. SKKU makes its mission possible by providing students with a variety of academic roadmaps which are based on a variety of partner and dual degree programs with highly qualified business schools around the world. Recently, major universities have been actively attracting outstanding individuals by introducing new premium Business Administration departments.
