- Kyungsoo Kim, Deputy Governor of the Institute for Monetary & Economic Research, the Bank of Korea
- Kyungsoo Kim, deputy governor of the Institute for Monetary & Economic Research, the Bank of Korea provided a special lecture for the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program at Sungkyunkwan University on Nov 18th. In his lecture, Issues on Reform of the International Financial Architecture: Korea’s perspective, Mr. Kim generally summarized the global financial market trends and the current position of Korea and furthermore tried to find solutions to the issues Korea has to overcome in the future. Regarding the dollar`s global weakness and its effect, Mr. Kim said that it will lead to capital loss of the foreign reserves, weakening of export competitiveness, and consequently decline in exports. As Korean currency gains in value, it will lead to trade deficit. Although globalization is implemented in various ways in Korea, the position of Korea in global financial market is still weak and the country cannot help but react sensitively to the world economy. Mr. Kim brought word that most countries are struggling to reserve dollars but increasing the value of its currency must take precedence since foreign exchange reserves do not mean the country`s wealth. Mr. Kim graduated from Seoul National University with a bachelor`s degree in economics, and the University of Pennsylvania with doctoral degree in economics. He has been serving as a deputy governor of the Institute for Monetary & Economic Research, the Bank of Korea since March 2007. Before his inauguration, he was a professor in the faculty of economics at Sungkyunkwan University.
