- Professor Baek Tae-young Appoints First Member of the International Sustainability Standards Committee
- The International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS) Foundation has appointed Baek Tae-young, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, as the first member of the International Sustainability Standards Committee(ISSB), The Financial Services Commission said on the 15th. ISSB is an independent standards-setting organization established by the IFRS Foundation in November last year to establish standards for disclosure of international standards. The total number of members is 14. Back served as a professor at Sungkyunkwan University's Business School and as a member of the Finance and Accounting Advancement Committee of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, a member of the National Accounting System Review Committee of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and chairman of the Korea Accounting Association. Baek will be responsible for the establishment of IFRS sustainability disclosure standards in the ISSB for three years. The Financial Services Commission said, "The appointment of Baek is the result of the positive impact on the international awareness and credit that Korea has formed by actively participating in the activities of the IFRS Foundation." It is a great honor to be appointed as one of a total of 14 members worldwide of the new ISSB(International Financial Reporting Standards Board) under the IFRS Foundation, which is expected to play a major role in establishing internationally standardized sustainability disclosures. The importance of the disclosure of sustainability(ESG) is increasing very quickly and greatly in the Korean business world, and I feel a great responsibility to play role as a Korean member in the international organization at the center. I am sorry that my long life as a professor ended a little early because I worked full-time as ISSB a year before my retirement age, but I think I will feel a new sense of challenge and worthwhile in life. 2. What are your plans for future activities? ISSB members are broadly classified into four regions: General, Americas, Asia-Oceania, and Europe-Africa. I represent the Asia-Oceania region along with representatives from China and Japan. It serves to inform and support the introduction of ISSB disclosure standards not only in Korea but also throughout Asia-Oceania. Of course, it also plays a role in the process of establishing the first two standards and the process of establishing the standards in the future after which we have reached an agreement on the current exposure draft. As the impact of this standard is significant not only for large companies but also for small and medium-sized companies, I would lite to discuss with many stakeholders about the benefits of introducing the standard and how to ease the burden of introduction. - Interview on Dean's list selection of Mun Seo-rim (Business 20) student
- 1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hello, I am currently in the third grade with a 20th degree in business administration at Sungkyunkwan University. It is an honor to be selected as a representative of the Department of Business Administration at Dean's List for the second semester of 2021. 2. Please give your acceptance speech that you were selected for the Dean's List of Business School for the 2021-2nd semester. First of all, I was grateful to receive such an honorable award at Sungkyunkwan University. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the dean of business school, professors of Sungkyunkwan Universtiy who teach well, and classmates who took the class with me. I think Dean's List is an award that makes you feel happier and more rewarding because you can focus on your studies with constant effort during the semester. Personally, I am more happy to get the honorable and proud results of being selected for Dean's List in both the first and second semester of 2021. There are many times when I feel that time is passing by, and it was a good opportunity to gain confidence that I had a good year in 2021 with the award of Dean's List of Business School. 3. Do you have your own secret to be selected for this Dean's List? Because of my personality, I tend to focus on the present. I think I want to do what I can right now and do my best in what I am given. This time, fulfilling my studies was the 'present' and 'given' for me at that time. If we continue to achieve the present well, I hope that we will be able to fulfill it faithfully one by one with the same mind even another new opportunity comes in the future. 4. Are there any other activities in and out of school? If you have any programs or memorable activities, please introduce them. First of all, I'm working in a school advertising club called 'Binaei'. Recently, I participated in the activity of making short video advertisements for each team. Normally, if I saw advertisements from the perspective of consumers, I felt proud because I felt like I had become a 'management student' that I really dreamed of through advertising production. It was an opportunity to learn and grow through discussions within the team and the entire club advertising system while participating in the message and planning of advertisements. And I am working in a volunteer club called 'Hak-In-Hoe'. It is mainly conducted as an educational volunteer to help children learn. I've been active since I became a sophomore. If it's short, it's short, but I think it gave me strength during that time. I'm teaching math to high school students, and thankfully, I'm getting energy because that student always participates in class with a bright and energetic appearance. Actually, I was worried and burdened about teaching math because I had a hard time in high school. But with that pressure, I studied and taught hard, and now I'm filled with confidence in myself. I started to share what I have, but I'm grateful for the more I get. 5. What are your future career and goals? I don't have a specific goal, but I think I can open up various possibilities. Regardless of what I want to do consistently or what I want to challenge, I plan to focus on the present and gain experience, and find a direction that suits me through that experience. 6. Lastly, please give me a word of advice for the classmates of the business school. If you want to do it for any reason, it's good to experience it. I think there are a lot of cases where it brings better results than expected, or gives good experiences and meanings that you never expected. So if you look at it right away, 'Do I have to do this?' Even things that give me hesitation, 'Can I do it?' When I started and did it faithfully, I think I gave energy and taught in my own way. There are many times when I don't know how each piece of the puzzle will help or be completed, but if I solve it slowly, I think I'll be able to create a wonderful piece of me and my work. - Interview with Bae Joong-beom, 35th IMBA's Top Gun, who shines with a solid military spirit
- 1. Hello, Major Bae Joong-beom, it's nice to meet you like this. Please introduce yourself. Hello? First of all, it's an infinite honor to invite me to an interview that only IMBA graduates/students like Kirasung can do. Thank you. I am currently a major in the Air Force and I am serving as a combat pilot in a combat squadron based in Chungcheonog. I graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2006, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force, and have been in the front-line combat air force until now. I flew the F-15K in Daegu for about 10 years and participated in various operations/training as an instructor pilot, was selected as the latest stealth fighter introduction pilot in 2017, received instructor training in the U.S., and have been deployed to the Air Force. I think it is one of the great luck in life that I met many great professors and classmates after entering the 35th class after encountering a good opportunity of IMBA course at Sungkyunkwan University in 2020. Although the number of direct attendance and exchanges was small due to COVID-19, it seems to be the advantage of the 35th, which is famous for being a direct hit by COVID-19, as colleagues miss each other's meeting and care for each other. The curriculum was excellent, but I learned a lot from the life of my fellow students who are acitve in various classes of society, and I gained motivation to be more positive and active in the rest of my military life. 2. Is there a reason why you chose the Air Force among various fields such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and what made you become a soldier? I think my career path was decided when I was in high school. It's quite early to decided on a career path in life, but on the contrary, it seems to be an important time that can have a significant impact. I thought about my medical career because I had good grades when I was a student, but I fell in love with the charm of uniforms worn by seniors and seniors who came to promote my school in the second year of high school. Originally, my dream was not to be a soldier, but I went to a police college and drew my dream of becoming a police officer, but the purpose of training national talent and the curriculum of university education were similar, so I prepared for the entrance examination of both schools. The reason why I chose the Air Force Academy among the Military/Navy/Air Force Academy was greatly influenced by career stability and professional living conditions in the consultation process with my homeroom teacher, and I think the Korean drama "Air Force" that aired at that time also played a part. If Top Gun 1 had been released at that time, I would have been more motivated, but I don't think I had seen Top Gun 1 at that time. And I don't think I could have imagined in those days that I would be in the Air Force for such a long time. In the end, I finally passed the Air Force Academy during the entrance examination process and entered the Military without attending the high school graduation ceremony in 2002, and I have been in the Air Force through many twists and turns. I think I wanted to quit more than 100 times in the middle because it didn't suit my aptitude, but looking back now, I think I couldn't quit because I didn't have the courage to quit. I still have a lot of lingering feelings about the police, but I'm trying not to regret the path I've walked now, thinking of the verses in Frost's 'The Road I Didn't Go'. First of all, I don't think of the mission of a soldier as a job, but as an essential element for the nation and I think it's an honor to be able to dedicate my youth to the people and the country. I'm getting older and it's time to step down from the front line of controlling fighter jets, but I think I can proudly tell my son about the memories of conquering the sky and protecting Korea with the strongest fighter jets when I was young. When I was working in Daegu, I met my current wife, a junior officer, when I was a captain, and now three families are living happily with my 8-year-old elementary school son, who cares a lot about my flight schedule and flight safety, and I feel sorry for my wife and son who give up every time. As an Air Force officer, as a stater official and a public official, many restrictions, duties, and responsibilities follow, but I am getting used to pursuing and enjoying understand happiness. I don't have the wealth of a fortune, I don't have much power, but I still like the restrained life of a silent devotion to the nation and its people and not ashamed of their uniforms. For your information, I used the word moderation, but I'm not good at controlling alcohol yet, and it's good to play that much. 3. I heard that you were working in the Air Force and faithfully engaged in the IMBA course at the Graduate School of Business. Were there any difficulties in studying and doing the same time? As an Air Force combat pilot and non-major in business administration/financial accounting/marketing, the area of new studies has always been a challenge. I had the pleasure of learning new things, but it wasn't easy to read overnight, and besides, I always had to do ground work and field training, so it wasn't easy to switch modes, and I always fell asleep early at night with fatigue. The excuse that I don't have time is the most foolish excuse, but if I had enough time, I wanted to explore each subject deeply, but I regret that I couldn't. However, as online classes have been hit directly by COVID-19 since 2020, the obligation to attend on weekends has disappeared and school hours have been earned, but it was also regrettable that I could not network with my colleagues, the core of IMBA. I was able to continue my studies with military service because of the active support and help of my family, the professional knowledge transfer and coaching of my colleagues who took classes together, and the consideration and teaching of professors. So I was able to complete the marathon for two years, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again There are many times when juniors ask about IMBA and when that happens, I actively recommend it and explain the big advantage. I also introduce my juniors with confidence because I didn't have any regrets the IMBA course, but it is sad that there are no Air Force pilot juniors in my current school year. (From the perspective of juniors who saw my daily life, I think that what I recommend had a negative impact ^^) 4. What is the most memorable thing about your school life? In fact, less than 10 times of direct attendance at school due to the direct impact of COVID-19, and a bundle of parking tickets that were hoarded at the beginning of admission remains in the car.(Can I get a refund? I don't know if I should sell it to the carrot market) There are still many longing for school life. In addition, I have completed my bachelor's degree at a special university called the Military Academy, so I have not felt the romance of the campus, which is all the more regrettable. Still, I remember taking a taxi from Seoul to my house in Chungcheong-do, having a daytime drinking party in front of the school by using classes as a means in between. Most of all, the most memorable moment in the IMBA course was the offline start-up theory(Professor Kim Woo-jin) class in the third semester, and I attended the class diligently for networking with my colleagues, and attended the meeting diligently before and after the class. On the first day of class, I remember telling the professor that I was not interested in starting a business and putting a nail in the professor's chest, and I apologize again. 5. What kind of soldier do you want to be remembered as, what kind of person do you want to be? I have been an officer for about 17 years as a fighter pilot. I think I have been positive about my military life through many internal motivations such as the pride of being a man, loyalty to the country, and the style of uniforms, while traveling over the Korean Peninsula and the sea with the latest fighter jets. In addition, I am proud that I was at the scene of the electrification of a heavy weapon system in the military, and I still feel rewarded for my position as the best instructor pilot who teaches tactics and operational know-how to my juniors. I will be able to devote as much time as I have spent in the military in accordance with laws and regulations, and after that, I will be retired by order. Although it may vary depending on the rank of promotion, I want to live a soldierly and public life in the aesthetics of moderation for the rest of my military life. I don't want to be too greedy, I want to do my best in my duties, pray in my faith, and engage in my future military life. I really want to repay my colleagues with success, but I want to be remembered as a 'real soldier' image rather than a 'successful soldier'.

- [Research Stories] Professor Oh Jong-min, Technology suitability between CEO and company and CEO labor market
- Technology suitability between CEO and company and CEO labor market Importance of the CEO's expertise in specific technologies in establishing competitive remuneration Published in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, a world-renowned journal in finance Oh Jong-min, a professor of business administration What should companies do to hire competent CEOs? There will be a number of factors, but perhaps nothing is more effective than proposing competitive remuneration. In order to present an attractive 'market price', companies usually refer to the level of CEO remuneration of their competitors. CEO compensation benchmarking allows a company to present an appropriate market price to the CEO by considering the surrounding external options of the CEO it wants to hire. Traditionally, there were two main considerations for selecting benchmarking targets suggested by previous studies. It is said that companies belonging to the same industry group or with similar market capitalization are benchmarked. Existing studies on U.S. companies often interpreted them as part of the CEO'S self-serving behavior when companies that do not fall under the above two were selected as benchmarking target companies. However, this interpretation is sometimes difficult to apply when looking at CEOs hired by global companies, including the United States. For example, Ferrari NV, a well-known supercar brand, recently cited Benedetto Vigna as CEO last summer because of his expertise in key technologies such as semiconductors used in automobiles. In this way, this paper studied whether the technical background of the CEO induces competition between companies for recruiting CEOs in the market and consequently affects the establishment of appropriate CEO remuneration. This study began with a simple assumption that companies focusing on a particular technology would prefer CEOs with technical expertise in that technology. During their tenure, CEOs often accumulate overall expertise in the technology through various experiences in major technology fields held by companies. The research team tried to verify the hypothesis that the CEO's technical expertise can be an important asset not only for the current company but also for other companies with high demand for the specific technology, which will affect the establishment of competitive remuneration in the CEO employment market. To this end, first of all, an empirical analysis was conducted on whether companies with similar technology tend to include companies with expertise in similar technologies when forming a benchmarking peer group to establish CEO remuneration. If expertise in a particular technology is a key factor in CEO selection, the research team determined that the peer group selected for CEO remuneration benchmarking is likely to include companies focusing on similar technologies to that company. As a result of the empirical analysis, it was found that the peer group selected for CEO remuneration benchmarking mainly includes companies that focus on technologies in similar fields as their own. In addition, the CEO of the company was found to receive competitive payment at a level close to the CEO of the benchmarking peer group, which focuses on similar technologies formed in this way. Finally, it was found that when the CEO changes jobs, the demand for technology tends to move to a place similar to the existing company. This shows that companies belonging to the same industry group or companies of a similar size and technologically similar firms are additional considerations in selecting companies to be benchmarked, and at the same time, technical suitability between the CEO and companies can be said to be the result of demonstrating that technological fit is an important determinant of the efficient wage level in the CEO job market. In recent years, the importance of innovative technologies has been highlighted, with the fusion of various technologies gradually destroying traditional industries. In light of this trend, this study is meaningful in that based on the CEO's expertise in specific technologies, the remuneration determined in the CEO employment market according to the technology suitability between the CEO and the company can be interpreted as part of efficient contracting. - The first semester of the 2022 school year, "Job Hak-Da-Sik(Career Mentoring)" held
- Following the career concert held on April 27th, "Job Hak-Da-Sik" was held to help freshman and current students in their career. In order to expand the senior-junior network to the suburbs and to strengthen the brand of Sungkyunkwan University's business department, 13 graduating seniors and 46 business administration students, a total of 59 people, participated in this event. The incumbents of the graduates are Samsung C&T, Daewon Pharmaceutical, PwC Consulting, Korea Financial Information Service, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, Samsung Seoul Hospital, Kia, CJ CheilJedang, Riot Games, EY Hanyoung, and Korea Investment&Securities. In advance, a business administration student submitted an application for career mentoring and proceeded with matching work with graduation seniors, and supported 20,000 won per team member, including graduation seniors. After the offline meeting, the activity report was submitted, and the award ceremony was held by selecting excellent teams from 1st to 5th places. Ha Ji-woon of the "Vamos" team(graduation senior : Jung Won-seok, EY Hanyoung) who has selected as the No.1 student said "Through this career mentoring, I was able to take the overall trial and error course on career setting and internship beyond the theoretical studies I learned as an undergraduate. - 2nd Joongbong Alumni Scholarship Award Ceremony Held
- On June 13(Mon), the second Joongbong Alumni Scholarship Award Ceremony was held.
