Our college of Business is strengthening its core values of education and research, and is striving to nurture talents for student success and future value creation. To this end, four new teachers were appointed in the first semester of the 2022 school year, their majors were marketing(1 person), business information(1 person), FinTech(1 person) and management(1 person), and they were invited to be teachers with excellent competence in each field. This time, we met Professor 'Choi Angela Aeri' of <Business Information Major>, a new teacher who became a family member of business school, and listened to 'major research activities, majors, and future plans'
Q1. Hello professor. Nice to meet you like this! Please introduce yourself.
Hello, I'm Choi Ae-ri, and I was appointed as an assistant professor of information management at Sungkyunkwan University Business school in 2022. After graduating from the Department of Business Engineering at KAIST in 2019, I worked as an assistant professor at The Florida State University for two and a half years, and this year I moved to Sungkyunkwan University.
Q2. Please briefly introduce your major, and what made you choose your major?
My major is Information Systems. In particular, we are conducting statistical analysis of consumer behavioral pattern data on various mobile platforms to quantify it and study how it can actually help management. With the onset of the 4th industrialization, it became possible to track the actions and decisions of all consumers. I chose this major because it was interesting to think about how to use this information effectively from a business perspective.
Q3. Please tell us about your feelings about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University Business School and your plans for the future
I have high expectation for Sungkyunkwan University students. I'm going to have a lot of time to communicate with students, and I want to be a mentor who can be of some help to students. Also, as a business scholar, I would like to continue to conduct meaningful research at home and abroad.
Q4. Please give a brief introduction about the class you are in charge.
This year, I'm in charge of Business Analysis. It is a class that learns the overall use of data from database design to data collection, data analysis, and interpretation. The essence of this lesson is that students have more opportunities to deal with data and software in person and gain practical knowledge, rather than learning from the text written in the textbook. It is still difficult to contact students a lot due to the COVID-19 situation, but I would like to meet them through various opportunities in the future.
Q5. What is your future research plan?
As mentioned above briefly, I would like to continue to promote academic activities at home and abroad as a business scholar. We are planning to continue our research on consumer behavior on the digital content platform and the influencer marketing platform. In addition, we are also conducting research related to gender effect on online platforms. It takes a lot of time and effort to complete a study, but I'm very happy to discover and learn new things every day. I want to do this kind of research for a long time.
Q6. Please tell me about the ideal educator you think of.
I think the ideal educator is to help students achieve their dreams, and to respect those dreams and act as a facilitator to help them achieve them. Rather than simply teaching students classes, giving them assignments, giving them tests, and giving them grades, I will be professors who forma a consensus with students and think from their perspective.
Q7. If you have anything you want to say to the students who are studying hard at Sungkyngkwan University Business School, please tell them!
Rather than focusing on grades, I hope students to have a variety of experiences during their college years. Looking back, it seems that the various experiences I had during that time were more blood and flesh to me than the credits I got in class at university.
