Sungkyunkwan University announced on the 4th that Professor Jeong Hong-joo of the Department of Trade at the College of Business was elected as the 26th president at the 27th general meeting of the Asia Pacific Risk Insurance Association (APRIA) held at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan on the 1st.
The term runs from the 1st to July 31, 2024. APRIA, founded in 1997, has over 150 individual and institutional members in over 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including the United States, China, Japan, and Korea. Sungkyunkwan University held the 15th APRIA General Assembly in 2012.
At this academic event, which was held face-to-face for the first time in four years since COVID-19, about 160 people from 15 countries participated in presentations, discussions, and moderators over 4 days.
New Chairman Jeong Hong-joo expressed his ambition, saying, “Over the next year, we plan to expand the base of participating countries, including the 10 ASEAN countries, and spread knowledge in the field of risk management.”
In this context, the 28th General Assembly of APRIA, to be held from July 28 to 31, 2024, will be held at the Laos National University in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
Chairman Jeong said, “In Laos, a Buddhist country that is included in the bucket list of Koreans, it is a useful time to look back on our busy lives while enjoying the monks’ mendicant procession at dawn and the sunset over the Mekong River in the evening, and to share academic knowledge with developing countries such as Laos during the day.” “For Korea, whose position is difficult due to the conflict between the U.S. and China, expanding ASEAN exchanges will be of great help to the national interest,” he said.
