The modern transition period was a time when the foundation and aspect of literature faced a major transformation and expansion. The positions of Korean literature in Chinese, which used to be the center, and Korean literature, which constituted the periphery, were reversed, and the material and institutional foundation of literature was dramatically expanded with the introduction of modern literal media (newspapers, magazines, books, phonetic alphabets, and printing). In addition, lively literature (oral aspect) was mediated through media technology such as gramophone, radio, and film introduced at the same time, so that it could be not only communicated at the time but also stored and passed down to future generations. Based on the characteristics of literature in the modern transition period, this subject understands modern literal media and media technology as a new literary field, and studies the foundation and aspects of classical literature that has been revived with a new foundation and method, apart from the promotion of modern literature. This course aims to study the development of civic culture and the Korean classical poetry created and enjoyed in late Chosun Dynasty. The cities were formed and commodity currency economy developed in late Chosun Dynasty. Civic culture developed around Seoul and the lives and emotions of urban people were reflected in poetry. The middle class was judged to have done remarkable literary achievements at this time, we need to pay attention to various aspects of civic culture. The students examine the meaning of poetry creation in the middle class as well as sadaebu, and study the structure and literary meaning of important works.

This course aims to understand the theory and logic of the Korean dictionary through discussion of the theory and application process of Korean dictionary compilation, and design the micro-structure and macro-structure of dictionary. The Korean dictionary is a collection of all the knowledge expressed in Korean, and the first task is to classify knowledge and organize significant contents. Recently, the process of verifying the contents of a dictionary through a large-scale corpus is also essential, so it is necessary to discuss Korean language information processing. ‘Korean Digital Narrative Studies’ examines the characteristics of digital media and analyzes the changes in storytelling and communication according to paradigm shifts. In this lecture, we will examine the cases of network analysis in digital humanities research and apply network analysis to Korean literature research. Neo4j and Gephi, open source network visualization software, will be used as analysis tools.
