Coursera <Korean Music, A Philological Exploration> Course opened by Park So-jeong,
Director of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center
<Korean Music, A Philological Exploration> course, which is taught by Park So-jung, director of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center at the Korea Philosophy and Culture Institute (Professor of Korean Philosophy in Confucianism), has been opened on the global MOOC platform 'Coursera'. Founded in 2012, Coursera is the world's largest online open class platform with 113 million learners.
This course was newly planned and produced by Professor Park So-jung and Professor Kim Soo-hyun with the aim of "exploring the vitality found in Korean music." The course provides contents that we can experience audibly and visually from ancient Korean music to modern ones, and examines the continuity of Koreans' way of thinking from various perspectives. Combining the professionalism and philosophical content of music, it is an intermediate-level course that can embrace both those majoring in music and those studying philosophy.
In particular, this course is significant in that it is the second course developed so far by the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute of Studies from July 2022, and the first of the 10 courses in the second year to be installed on the Coursera platform. The K-Academic Diffusion Research Center will install "Korean Philosophy Essentials," a Coursera specialization series on Korean philosophy, with additional courses taught by Professor Park So-jung in early 2024, after which courses taught by full-time teachers at Sungkyunkwan University's College of Foreign Studies will also be installed on the Coursera platform.
This course can be taken on the 'Coursera' website (https://www.coursera.org/learn/korean-music-a-philosophical-exploration) ), and learners who have completed a total of 7 weeks of study after the upgrade can obtain a Shareable Certificate issued by Coursera. (For more information, refer to the Cocera website.)
