On April 5, the K-Academic Spread Research Center of Sungkyunkwan University (President Kim Dong-min), which connects "Tradition and Modernity", "Research and Public", and "Today and Tomorrow" of Korean philosophy, successfully held the "K-Academic Spread Research Center Project Sharing Meeting" by inviting 11 university research centers that are carrying out projects together with the Ministry of Education, the Korea Institute of Studies, the Korean Studies Promotion Project, and the K-Academic Spread Research Center.
The K-Academic Spread Research Institute project is a large-scale national project ordered by the Korean Studies Promotion Foundation to continue the trend of popularization of Korean culture, which is spreading in the name of "Korean Wave" around the world, to the academic achievements of Korean academia and interest in Korean studies in general.
Through this performance-sharing meeting, the K-Academic Spread Research Center of Sungkyunkwan University shared the following achievements of the academic, educational, and spread projects that the center has carried out over the past three years, and held discussions and forums.
First of all, the center has produced more than 10 courses every year and 33 courses over the past three years through leading MOOC platforms such as K-MOOC and Coursera for the globalization of Korean philosophy. About 174 lecturers participated in the center's lecture production, and about 18,500 people took the center's course through the two platforms, K-MOOC and Coursera.
At the same time, the center held seven international workshops and international academic conferences connecting domestic and foreign researchers of Korean philosophy, and 19 colloquiums to accumulate know-how in producing online courses. In addition, under the main theme of communication and diffusion of Korean philosophy, we are planning to publish Korean research books (June 2024), English research books (June 2026), and English textbooks (June 2025) for English-speaking learners.
On the other hand, to make the center's courses more widely available, the Korea Institute for Overseas Chinese Cultural Development, Chonnam National University's Philosophical Research Education Center (scheduled in April 2024), George Mason University's Center for Korean Studies, Stony Brook University's Center for Korean Studies, Freie Universität Berlin's Institute of German, The Center for Korean Studies at Ehess in France, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature at Romanian University Of Bucharest, School of International Studies at Sun Yat-Sen University in China, and Center for East Asian And Comprehensive Photography at Hong Kong University in Hong Kong
We have signed a cooperative relationship and are seeking to establish a cooperative relationship with Centre For Korean Studies at Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands, Department Of Asian And North African Studies at Ca Foscari University of Venice in Italy, and Department Of Korean Studies at Inalco in France.
In addition, we operated SKKU Korean Philosophy Overseas Supporters to communicate and spread with overseas university students, who are the actual main participants of our courses. We visited 18 university institutions located in Singapore, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, and the United States to introduce our center's Korean philosophy courses to university students, graduate students, researchers, and faculty members of the institutions and establish relationships.
Our K-Academic Spread Research Center at Sungkyunkwan University will continue to carry out more active communication and diffusion projects.
