Thesis Eligibility Exam - Major Subjects
- Starting from the 1st semester of the 2023 academic year, the existing written and oral exams will be unified into a written exam (applicable to all student numbers).
- Target Subjects: Core 16 subjects (Structural Mechanics, Convective Heat Transfer, Dynamics, Micro-Nano Processing, Bioengineering, Design and Production Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Integrated Mechanical System Design, Material Properties and Behavior, Computational Heat and Fluid Analysis, Intelligent Robotics Engineering, Introduction to Advanced Nanomaterials, Carbon Mechanics, Statistical Thermodynamics, Modern Control Systems).
- Statistical Thermodynamics can be replaced with Thermodynamics, and Convective Heat Transfer can be replaced with Heat Transfer (applicable only in 2023).
- Passing Criteria: 2 subjects for the master's program, 3 subjects for the doctoral program.
- Up to a maximum of 3 subjects can be taken in one semester (applicable from the 2nd semester of 2016).
- Exemption policy for subjects when achieving an A+ grade implemented (maximum of 1 subject).
Qualification Examination for Thesis Submission - Foreign Language Subject
- 1) Submission of the foreign language subject transcript is not done during the regular application period.

2) To be eligible for the thesis submission qualification examination, you must apply during the early registration period of the semester and pass the examination.
- Only officially recognized English proficiency tests according to the standards of the College of Engineering are accepted (separate foreign language subject examinations are not conducted).

Qualification Requirements for Thesis Submission

(1) Preliminary Examination
- Master's: Conducted before the semester of graduation.

Ph.D.: Conducted within 2 semesters prior to the semester of graduation, including the semester of graduation.

(2) In effect from the spring semester of 2014: As the first author:
- Master's: Mandatory submission to an international academic journal (SCI-level) OR mandatory submission to a domestic academic journal listed in academic databases OR mandatory presentation at a domestic academic conference OR mandatory presentation at an international academic conference.
- Ph.D.: Mandatory publication confirmation of at least 2 papers in an international academic journal (SCI-level) AND mandatory presentation at an international academic conference (oral or poster presentation).
※ When applying for the main thesis submission, the claim requirements form (청구요건 양식) must be filled out and submitted with the application (if the presentation at an academic conference is scheduled at the time of application, a signed pledge and supporting documents from the advisor must be submitted, and the presentation date must be before the deadline for submitting the thesis evaluation report).

(3) In effect from the spring semester of 2020: As the first author:
- Master's: Mandatory submission to an international academic journal (SCI-level) OR submission to 연구재단 등재(후보)지 OR presentation at a domestic academic conference (oral or poster presentation) OR (recommended) presentation at an international academic conference (oral or poster presentation).
- Ph.D.: Mandatory publication confirmation of at least 2 papers in an international academic journal (SCI-level) (1 paper if it is in the top 10% of JCR) (mandatory submission of proof of planned publication for at least 2 papers), mandatory presentation at an international academic conference (oral or poster presentation).
※ Papers required for qualification requirements must include affiliation with the School of Mechanical Engineering.
※ Main Thesis Evaluation: For master's students, if the first author's SCI publication is confirmed then a written evaluation may be conducted.
Language of Thesis Writing: Primarily in English
- Master's: English writing recommended.
- Ph.D.: English writing mandatory.
- Implementation Date: Implemented comprehensively from February 2015 (based on the graduation date, not the admission date).
