- Professor Cho Dong-kyu's research team published a paper in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
- A research team led by Professor Cho Dong-kyu has published a new study that can be applied to the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease by identifying the protein that inhibits the enzyme that produces amyloid beta, the cause of Alzheimer's disease, and the mechanism of natural substances that control it. Amyloid beta, which causes Alzheimer's disease, is produced when an enzyme called BACE1 cuts into a protein called APP that exists in the cell membrane. BACE1-AS acts to stabilize BACE1 mRNA and increases the BACE1 expression. Both BACE1 and BACE1-AS have increased in brain tissue of Alzheimer's dementia patients. The research team has identified a new mechanism of sulforaphane, which is high in broccoli, that directly inhibits the expression of BACE1 and BACE1-AS by activating the transcription factor called NRF2 through screening of plant-based physiological active compounds that can suppress gene expression in BACE1. Professor Cho Dong-kyu said, "The results of this study identify NRF2 as a new carrier that inhibits the emergence of BACE1, which is increasing in Alzheimer's dementia. There is a new basis for various NRF2 activators such as sulforaphane to be developed as drugs to prevent and treat Alzheimer's dementia."

- Final selection of the Medical Research Center (MRC)
- The "Epigenome Dynamics Control Research Center" (Director: Han Jung-hwan) of our university was selected as the MRC project of the National Research Foundation of Korea. The MRC project is operated with the aim of fostering core research fields that are world-class competitive and enhancing national basic research capabilities through the discovery and development of outstanding research groups with creativity and excellence. In particular, the MRC project was re-entered by the "Epigenome Dynamics Control Research Center" (Director: Han Jung-hwan), which was conducted from 2010 to 2019 at our university, and was recognized for its excellent promotion and research achievements of the existing center. Epigenome Dynamics Control Research Center analyzes epigenome dynamics in a variety of incurable diseases (e.g., metabolic diseases, dementia, heart disease, etc.) and presents new treatment targets that are not previously. Congratulations on the selection of the Epigenome Dynamics Control Research Center Center: Epigenome Dynamics Control Research Center Project period: 2019-2025 (7 years total) Project cost: 1.4 billion/year (9.8 billion won in total) Participating Professors: Han Jung-hwan (Central Director), Cho Eun-jung, Park Hyun-joo, Cho Dong-kyu, Yoon Yoo-seok, Jung Ga-young, Kim Ki-hyun and Lee Jae-chul

- Ashok Kumar Pandey Ph.D. Appointment of IICT Hyderabad Assistant Professor in India
- Dr. Ashok Kumar Pandey, who served as Postdoc. Fellow at our university's research lab of Kim In-soo, was appointed assistant professor at Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in India. Dr. Pandy majored in chemistry at Bir Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in India and earned a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Allahabad. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar), gained experience in research at the IIT Ropar and Biomedical Research, and has been a Postdoc. Fellow and research professor at our School of Pharmacy since 2017. Dr. Pandy worked at our university, synthesized the pharmacologically important drug molecular structure, conducted an active control study, and published these findings in a globally influential journal. He returned to his home country in 2019 February and was hired as an assistant professor at the IICT Hyderabad and teaches organic chemistry and medicine chemistry at Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry. Congratulations on the appointment of Dr. Pandey's assistant professor.

- Professor Kim In-soo's research team published a paper in 'Angewandte Chemie'
- Professor Kim In-soo's research team (1st author: Lee Hee-young in master's program) published the results of study on a new methodology for synthesizing a quadruple continuous ring drug molecular structure using the new reactivity of acetal in June issue of Angewandte Chemie (IF = 12.102). "The results of this study are new reactivity findings of acetal based on direct carbon-hydrogen conversion responses" and "This research suggests new alternatives for designing a quadruple continuous ring drug molecular structure and extracting new materials, which can be described as a blue ocean in the development of medicines, and it will be an optimal synthesis process that dramatically improves manufacturing methods based on the existing multi-stage synthesis process," Professor Kim In-soo said.

- The school of pharmacy held a athletics meeting
- On May 2, we held an entire athletic competition of pharmacy at the Grand Stadium. About 150 undergraduate students in four groups, 11 professors, and alumni association leaders attended various sports activities including foot baseball, foot volleyball, tug-of-war and relay. In particular, soccer and foot volleyball, where professors and students are together, have strengthened the affection between priests and students to have attachment more to school and subjects. After all the games, we tried hard to encourage students who were sweating by award.

- Professor Jung Ga-young's research team published a paper in Cell.
- Professor Jung Ga-young’s research team announced in the world’s top international journal "CELL" on May 5 that it has identified sequential changes in structure from the G protein to inducing reactions within the cell by combining it with the G protein as an external signal, and presented the structure of G protein receptors that can be used for drug development. The 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded by Robert J. Lefkowitz, a professor at Duke University, and K. Kobilka, a professor at Stanford University, who revealed the structure of the G protein receptor. Until then, it was known that the G protein was related to various diseases, but the principle of its operation had not been revealed. The study can be seen as a step further from the 2012 Nobel Prize-winning study. Studies have shown that the structure of the Nobel Prize-winning G protein receptor may not be an appropriate model for the development of effective new drugs in the final form after coupling with G protein, and that the structure of the early G protein receptor in the combination is more suitable. "We proposed a theory that changes the paradigm of the principle of activating G protein by G protein receptors, which have been continuously studied since the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry," and "It will be a new strategy for the development of medicines that work on G protein receptors in the future" said Professor Jung Ga-young.
