Confucianism Humanity Education Center opened in Humanities and Social Sciences Campus in 2013, and has successfully operated
, an essential subject for the cultivation of SKKU students’ character. In addition, it implemented many humanity education programs and became specialized institution for humanity education. However, Confucianism Humanity Education Center is located in Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, making it difficult for students in Natural Sciences Campus to experience humanity education programs. The center tried to operate the same programs in Natural Sciences Campus by moving manpower, equipment and materials, but suffered a lot because there was no separate space. Professor Lee Cheon Sung was appointed as the head of the center in July and actively promoted the opening of Confucianism Humanity Education Center in Natural Sciences Campus. Based on the cooperation and support of University College, Confucianism Humanity Education Center opened at the room 51163 of General Studies Building. With the opening of Confucianism Humanity Education Center, it plans to carry out more humanity education programs and projects for students in Natural Sciences Campus, including improvement of , operation of classical lectures and cooperation project. Since its establishment in 2013, the center has successfully developed and operated , a liberal arts course representing SKKU, and helped develop the character of SKKU students through distinctive character-building practice programs. It also won the "Korea Humanity Education Grand Prize" in 2019 for promoting cooperation projects such as humanity education for military and personality mentoring at community child center. Based on these unique achievements and know-how, the newly opened center in Natural Sciences Campus will implement character-building practice programs customized for students in Natural Sciences Campus, and will make efforts to improve the quality of lectures by professors of . In addition, it will operate programs and classes specialized for Natural Sciences Campus, and will provide books like . The center plans to sign MOUs with social welfare institutions near Natural Sciences Campus and help students cultivate character. Including the opening ceremony of Confucianism Humanity Education Center in Natural Sciences Campus, the center's humanity education programs, , Sungkyunkwan Exploration videos, and other humanity education materials can be found in detail on YouTube(성균인성) or website(https://chec.skku.edu/). - SKKU was selected as ‘2020 Industrial Technology Base Center’
- SKKU was selected as ‘2020 Industrial Technology Base Center’ Our university (SKKU) was selected as ‘2020 Industrial Technology Base Center’, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The purpose of the project is to help university research laboratories can continuously develop and accumulate original technologies (first phase) and establish R&D supply base for supplying and spreading original technologies to companies (second phase). Under the subject of ' Concurrent Composite Materials Design Base Center,' our university was selected as first priority and will be received 5.25 billion won from the national treasury for 2.5 years in the first phase. In the second phase, our university plans to establish a supply base system over four years. Concurrent composite materials and parts design technology means designing by simultaneously considering composite materials, parts and manufacturing when developing parts. If this technology is supplied and diffused in the industry, it will be able to dramatically improve component performance and shorten the development period beyond the paradigm of individual material development, component design, and manufacturing. SKKU also plans to efficiently link and expand industrial-academic cooperation resources established in our university and utilize them in this base center. With Professor Suhr Jong Hwan of Mechanical Engineering as director, 9 professors of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering and 5 professors of industry-academic cooperation will participate in this project. In addition, 6 R&D cooperation organizations and 71 companies in materials, parts and software will participate as consortium. During the first phase of the pilot project, the Base Center plans to develop source core technologies for concurrent composite materials and parts design and manufacturing. The center also plans to verify the possibility of practical use of source core technologies by developing battery pack covers and non-pneumatic tires applicable to the future automobile market with PBV(Purpose Built Vehicle) and UAM(Urban Air Mobility). Based on these technologies and achievements, in the second phase, the technologies developed by university research laboratories will be supplied and spread, and composite material will be diversified into semiconductor equipment and 3D printing over four years. [Picture 1] The example of PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle) composite material parts Choo Hyun Seung, president of Research & Business Foundation, said, “If this base center is successfully developed, it can be exported both domestic and overseas as an exemplary industry-academic cooperation model.” Prof. Suhr Jong Hwan said, “This center will grow to a world-class level and serve as a supply base that can supply and spread original technologies of composite materials and parts in the future. It will be able to dominate high value-added material and parts market and improve competitiveness.”

- SKKU opened Challenge Square to systematically manage students’ learning outcome
- SKKU opened Challenge Square, a system for student success portfolio, to systematically manage students’ learning outcome - To systematically manage the learning outcomes of students’ extracurricular activities throughout their entire university years - To design effective university life and career roadmaps by checking students’ abilities at a glance Our university (SKKU) opened Challenge Square, a system for student success portfolio, in order to systematically manage the learning outcomes of students’ extracurricular activities on September 1st (Tue). Challenge Square is a total system that integrates and manages learning outcomes both inside and outside of school throughout students’ entire university years. It systematically manages various activities, including club activities, volunteer activities, scholarship, international exchange, mentoring, contests and seminars. Our university plans to support students' successful university life and help them enter into society, by analyzing students’ success factors based on big data through Challenge Square. Students can use the system to systematically manage their learning outcomes, as well as look back on their own abilities by comparing and analyzing them with other students. Students can systematically prepare their careers by checking the status of extracurricular activities compared with other students in the same department and the same grade. Students also can compare the status of extracurricular activities or their grade point average with other students employed in a job category where they wish. In this way, students can effectively design their university life because they can see their strengths and weaknesses through the system. Furthermore, students can build a career roadmap that is right for them, based on comprehensive and data based career information. Kim Dong Uk, the head of Academic Affairs Division, said, “So far, students' data have tended to be managed focusing on their grades and other curriculum activities. Challenge Square will be the foundation for students to design their university life more effectively and enter into society, by establishing a database about not only curriculum activities but also students’ extracurricular activities and entire university years.”

Among theoretical lectures, if there are less than 40 students in class, it will be operated as hybrid of online-offline. Professors conduct offline classes in the classroom and students can choose whether to take classes in the classroom or online. There are two methods for operating online lecture: real-time streaming or uploading recorded lecture video. Thus, students should check the method before registration. Experiment classes, practical training classes, small size liberal arts lectures for freshman, graduate school lectures will be operated offline(face-to-face). SKKU plans to announce how each class will be operated in advance so that students can check the method and register. SKKU decided on a policy to upload the lecture of the first week before registration so that students can check the contents of the class in advance. Registration period of 2020 fall semester is from August 13 (Thu) to 21 (Fri). In addition, SKKU plans to conduct fall semester test offline. If student cannot attend the offline test due to COVID-19, it can be replaced with an assignment.
