- SKKU’s Technology Holdings Company is registered as 'Accelerator' of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(MSS) The technology holdings company[CEO Yoo Piljin(Professor, Chemical Engineering)] said on Feb 11th that it will register as an ‘accelerator’ of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(MSS) and continue to support early startups by utilizing the superior infrastructure and know-how of SKKU. ‘Accelerator’(start-up planners) is that who specializes in fostering businesses, such as discovering and promoting early start-ups. And once registered with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, it can receive the authority to form an individual association and support from various tax benefits. The government plans to create a new fund for university technology holdings companies worth 600 billion won by 2022 and expand the second venture boom by allowing university technology holdings companies registered as accelerator to form venture investment associations through the enactment of the Venture Investment Promotion Act in the future. With SKKU’s technology holdings company joining domestic university accelerator, it is expected to create a start-up ecosystem based on excellent technology and spread the second venture boom. Professor Yoo Piljin said, "By registering as an ‘accelerator’, we have set a springboard for a virtuous circle in which we can maximize the performance of our technology business based on our excellent intellectual property and reinvest in education and research." Meanwhile, SKKU’s technology holdings company has established and operated 11 subsidiaries based on the excellent technology of teachers and researchers since its establishment in 2012.

Professor Han Heejoon (Economics), Kim Andrea (Graduate School of Business Administration), Kinkar Chandra Das (Mathematics), Kim Donghwan (Chemical Engineering), and Lee Changgu (Mechanical Engineering) were selected as the professor of '2019 SKKU Young-Fellowship’. 2019 SKKU-Fellowship selected the best professors by academic field based on the quality level of the research paper (paper citation counts, IF and so on). SKKU-Fellowship system is the highest honor given to professors by our university since 2004, and is a system that gives exceptional research support and honor by selecting best professors with world-class or highly accessible research skills in each academic field. - Our university, SKKU, have the highest number in law clerks and public prosecutors appointment and is ranked as No.1 nationwide. Our university(SKKU)’s law school produced 20 passed members from the selection process for trial researcher (Law Clerk) and 12 members have been appointed as new prosecutors, achieving the top spot in the nation for both the selections of judicial trial researchers and public prosecutors which are announced in Nov. By producing the 20 successful candidates from the law clerk appointment, in addition to producing the largest number of successful candidates in history of our law school, it was the overwhelming No. 1 nationwide. Also, the 12 members of our law school are passed from the new prosecutor's selection and that records are the highest number of every law schools in korea ranked as No. 1 nationwide as well. In addition, SKKU has achieved outstanding results in all areas, recording a 68.8 percent acceptance rate in the National Bar Examination, and a majority of its members have also been confirmed to be hired in the large law firm. “Our university has traditionally been strong in advancing students into the public sector, including law clerk and the prosecutors." said Min Man-ki, dean of the Law School in our university, SKKU. - Our university, SKKU will hold ‘Asia-Pacific Finance and Economics Forum’ inviting the world scholars. An international academic discourse session of the Asia-Pacific Finance and Economics Forum will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the Sohyang lecture room of the 600th Anniversary Hall of our university. This seminar will be conducted in a special session of “The SKKU-ZJU International Conference on Economics and Finance”, an international conference organized by Professor Ryu Du-jin belonged in department of economics at SKKU. The presenter of this special discourse will consist of world-class scholars from Korea, the USA, China and Japan in the fields of financial economics and advanced financial engineering. Sunghyun Kim, the professor of Economics in our university, diagnoses the Korea’s economy from a macro-financial perspective on the theme of ‘international capital flows in Korea.’ Robert Web, head editor of the Journal of Futures Markets, which is the most prestigious journal in the field of derivative financial products, presents an insightful analysis of the derivative financial market under the theme of 'The Internationalization of Future Markets: Lessons from the Past'. And, professor Jiro Akahori, who was called the mathematical genius of the Tokyo university when he studied there, would provide a blueprint for the future of high-tech financial engineering under the theme of ‘Frontiers of Financial Engineering Today’ as a leading Japanese financial engineer. Also, prof. Qian Han (Xiamen University), a communist party member of the Chinese government, talks about the characteristics of the rapidly growing Chinese financial market under the theme of 'Price Discovery with Chinese Characteristics.' “We have organized this international scholarship conference to continue the great interest of our school members in the last special lecture which opened Nobel Prize in Economics.” said the professor Doo-jin Ryu, who conducts the event, “Prominent presenters from academia and business will give 'easy' lectures on advanced financial markets based on a deep and balanced perspective.” “Research in the financial field will be great help to not only for graduate students, but also for undergraduate and MBA students who want to get a job in domestic and overseas financial institutions” he said. - Sungkyun Personality Education Center of SKKU was awarded Grand Pize for Personality education Sungkyun Personality Education Center(Head : Hong-Joon Yoo) of the University College was awarded the Korean Humanity Education Grand Prize on November 19 (Tue). Since its establishment in July 2013, the Sungkyunkwan Personality Education Center has contributed to nurturing the right personality of Sungkyunkin by developing and operating the humanities-area major curriculum and liberal arts personality-education programs based on the 'human prognosis', a teaching of our university. They(Sungkyun Personality Education Center) designated 'Personality(InSung)' as a mandatory liberal arts curriculum for the first time of every universities, and successfully settled in humanities-area-curriculum such as Sungkyun Analects of Confucius. In addition, By conducting various character development programs of liberal arts such as Donui, Sungrye, Hongji, Insung Camp, Personality Travel, Personality essay, Characteristic as Sungkyun students, Family Love PPT Public Contest, and Personality Campaign, they could lead students to build their own personalities naturally through daily practice. Based on its know-how in implementing the human character education program, the Sungkyunkwan Personality Education Center distributes and shares the methods and achievements of personality education through such activities as training in personality education for primary and secondary school teachers, conducting human character and etiquette education, holding a symposium on personality education, and signing MOUs with the Sunbi Cultural Training Institute and the Student military School. The president of Sungkunkwan University, ShinDongRyul first visited the class preparing national high-leveled official exam in YangHyeongwan for the first time since his inauguration. President Shin moved to Yanghyeon Hall to inspect the current situation and facilities of the preparing exam room and encourage the students after the luncheon meeting with academic advisor of Yang Hyun-gwan on November 11 (Mon). Yang Hyeon-gwan's first visit since the inauguration of the president was joined by Bae Sang-hoon, head of the student talent development institute, and four dedicated professors of the examiner's room (administrator, diplomat, public accountant, and media) at the Yanghyeon Hall. "We hope that our students at Yang-Jun Hall will pass many and become the leaders of society." said president, Shin. “We would spare no support to provide a good environment to prepare the exams.” Opened in 1986, Yang Hyun-gwan consists of study rooms to prepare administration, diplomat, certified public accountant, and media press examination with total 531 seats, as well as a data room, seminar room, and a rest room. - Sungkyun Personality Education Center, signed an MOU with the Army Student Military School and conducted personality training for ROTC nationwide. Sungkyun Personality Education Center(Director Yoo Hong-jun) signed a MOU(memorandu of understanding) with the Army Student Military School on Thursday, October 17 in order to spread our university's education concept abroad by combining the outcomes of our personality education with the that of military training field. Based on the agreement, these two organizations will provide △Human and material and administrative mutual support for personality education of students enrolled in our university and cadet in military school, △Development and operation of programs utilizing the facilities and expert personnel of the convention institution, △Exchange of academic information in education, research and culture fields △Establishment of proper character education plans and mutual cooperation for social spread. The Army Student Military School is a representative officer training organization that produces 90% of the nation’s army officers in charge of the education of Reserve Officers Training Corps(R.O.T.C) in every national universities and dedicates to the education of special officers. So it is expected that through this agreement, the military will further enhance the cadet’s personality education. After the ceremony of these agreement, Vice President Yoo Hong-jun gave a special lecture on personality education. Merton, a Nobel Laureate in economics, at the International Hall of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus on Oct. 23 at 9 a.m., cooperating with the Korea Finance Association. The professor Merton, MIT Sloan Graduate School of Business, will give a special lecture on the theme of Fintech and the future of the high-tech financial industry(Observations on Financial and Technological Innovation “FinTech” Opportunities and Challenges). Professor Merton is the founder of the Black-Scholes-Merton Option Pricing Model, the most famous model in the financial field and awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in his early 50s for his work on developing this model. Merton's advisor professor is Paul Samuelson, a legendary economist who was first American winner of Nobel Prize in Economics. In other words, both teachers and his disciple have drew a stroke in economics history. The professor Merton currently serves as an advisor to Dimensional Fund, the global investor advisory firm, actively serving and contributing to both academic and business practice. The lecture is expected to be great help to students who want to study the financial field and advance into the academic world, as well as MBA students who pursue professionalism in real financial practice. This invited lecture by a winner of the Nobel Prize Economics was conducted by Professor Ryu Doo-jin, the Economics professor of our university, a director of the Korea Financial Society and a recipient of the 'Sung Kyun Prize Candidate Fund'. - Collaborations of Companies and Universities for AI Future Technology, Artificial intelligence training in our university have vision. The Institutes of Human Resources Education in our university said that they are running 'AI talent training programs' focusing on the field of IT(Samsung SDS), manufacturing(LG Electronics), and finance(KB Financial) with major domestic companies in order to cultivate talents utilizing future technologies through artificial intelligence. LG Electronics' AI courses and KB AI courses, which are specialized in manufacturing production and finance, respectively are being operated at its natural science university campus and the humanities and social science university campus in September. The Institute of Human Resources Development Education, which continues to provide education related to artificial intelligence and big data for major companies, has accumulated a lot of educational know-how by collaborating with the Intelligent Information Convergence Center in our university and conducting advanced education such as natural language processing and computer vision based on machine learning and deep learning. Especially, it is providing learner-friendly curriculums such as opening a dedicated training center with state-of-the-art PCs and GPU servers at the Industrial-Academic Cooperation Center to expand education in the AI field and offering the close support of assistances who are in master's degree or Ph.D. In addition, associated with a company, the program provides field-based training, including theoretical-oriented curricula and industrial-academic projects to address the challenges of real-world businesses. For example, our universities, SKKU and LG electronic have been performing the joint project to resolve the facing issues together for two weeks after three weeks of the AI-Smart Factory training. And KB Financial executives and employees are running projects to solve financial tasks at hand along with machine learning and deep learning education through analysis of AI big data in the financial industry. In order to preemptively respond to the explosive increase in the demand for advanced AI and big data education, HRD is preparing ‘SKKU 4S Certificate Programs’ optimized for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The SKKU Certificate Program of the HR Center is a professional qualification course including a developed Marketing Course, based on the highest level of MBA program (2019 Financial Times, 42nd in the world) and Artificial Intelligence Expert Course and Digital Transformation Leader Course featuring the capabilities of nationally recognized faculty of AI graduate school. “Data science-related fields such as AI and big data are now becoming essential elements of companies and society.” Shin Dong-ryul, the president of Sungkyunkwan University, at the same time the head of the HR Center, said. - Our university, SKKU, held 2019 Eurasian SungKyun Hangeul essay contest Our university, SKKU hosted the ‘2019 Eurasian Sungkyun Hangeul essay contest’ on Sept. 6 at the Lotte City Hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. For more than a decade, our university has been holding a ‘SungKyun Korean language contest’ in various regions including China, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Southeast Asia to promote the excellence of Hangeul to the world, communicate with people around the world and spread Korea’s unique values. The Eurasian Sungkyun Hangeul essay contest which holds in central Asia eleventh times, where students show off their Korean language skills and, by extension, is widely known as a gateway for studying abroad to Korea. Fifty-nine students from 24 universities in eight countries including Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Austria, Karakalpakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey participated in the event in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Students were selected for preliminary rounds in each region, and they competed in Korean language skills under the theme of the presentation given on the day. The chairman, Sung Jae-ho, a professor at the Graduate School of Law, said in a greeting that the lyrics "I Want Something Stronger" are in BTS' song "Poetry for Small Things" that you like. “I'm sure you've already grown even more while studying Korean and preparing for the contest.
