- SKKU Ranked 14th in THE Asia University Rankings 2019
- SKKU ranked 14th in Times Higher Education Asia University Rakings 2019. 29 universities in South Korea has been in the list, while only three (Seoul University, Sungkyunkwan University and KAIST) being in top 20. In particular, Sungkyunkwan University made progress, with its rank going up by 6. SKKU has grown rapidly after it ranked in top 20 Asia University Rankings for the first time last year, ranking 2nd in South Korea and 1st among Korean comprehensive private universities. SKKU received great recognition among universities in Korea in the area of Citations(74.8 points) and Industry Income. Sungkyunkwan University newly established BICS(Biomedical Institute for Convergence at SKKU) in 2016 and SCI-Cube (SKKU Convergence Institute for Intelligence and Informatics) in 2017. Also, SKKU has been developing leading model in the area of convergence studies to establish foundation of convergence including culture, art and media since 2018. SKKU ranked 1st in THE University Rankings 2019 in sector of Medical, Natural Sciences and Art among Korean University. In the Natural Sciences field, its worldwide rank went up rapidly from last year’s 101~125 to 84 in 2019. Lee Sang-Won, the director of the Center for Innovative Higher Education(CIHE), said “SKKU’s Convergence Education provides students opportunities to independently set up and solve problems by themselves. With this field curriculum. students will be able to experience creative work and cooperation.” Shin Wan-Seon, the head of Planning and Coordination Division, said “Sungkyunkwan University has been focusing on creating a synergy effect between education and research, by recruiting world’s greatest scholars as faculty members and introducing global standard education system.”

- Sungkyun Humanity Education Center's 'Humanity Tour with Parents' Program Sungkyun Humanity Education center conducted 'Humanity Tour with Parents' program at Dosan Seowon Sunbi Culture Training Center on November 9~10th. The program was designed to invite parents as partners of university education and encourage them to sympathize with their children, eventually strengthening the bond of family. Also, it will provide emotional and affective supports to students and help them achieve successful university lives as well. The program let students think of high character from the Sunbi Culture and feel free of studies focused on learning. Through the program, Sungkyun Humanity Education Center and University College presented the students and parents precious memories of experiencing traditional culture. The first program on the first day was to visit Dosan Seowon and understand the spirit of sages such as Toegye Yi-Hwang. The families also enjoyed the autumn atmosphere around the Dosan Seowon, the Nakdong River and the Andong Dam. The second part were humanity seminar and sympathy program, allowing mutual sympathy of parents, students and the university. In the morning of the second day, participants experienced Hwalinsimbang, the health care act of Sunbi. Then they had pleasant talk with descendants of Toegye Yi-Hwang at Toegye Head House and visited the Tomb of Toegye. One of the parents said, “I was surprised that there is a program for parents in university. I participated vigorously in the activities of my children’s schools when they were teenagers. But parents are usually excluded from the activities of universities. I really appreciate Sungkyunkwan University catching that point and holding such program.” University College

- 2018 Freshman Guide Workshop was held
- 2018 University College Freshman Guide Workshop was held University College(Dean: Hong Joon YOO) hosted 2018 Freshman Guide Workshop at Cho Byung Doo International Conference Hall in Humanities and Social Sciences campus on Friday, November 23rd. A total of 95 students, including Freshman Guides(FG) from both campuses participated in the event. After the opening speech from Sungkyun Mentor, Soon-Hyun Jeong, group activities such as school regulation quiz and ice-breaking activities were followed. Those 6 group activities were specially designed to strengthen communication and team work for FG students of both campuses. FG is a student organization of University College, designed for students to better adapt to their new university life. FG members support events for freshman students, including preliminary orientation for freshman and pre-college orientaiton. During the semester, FG arranges 'LC(Learning Community) Atheletic Meetings' and 'University College Day'. Chae-Hong LEE(17' Mass Communication) and Jeong-Hyun LEE(17' Chemical Engineering/Polymer Science Engineering) from 11th Freshman Guide who presided over the event said, "Preparing for the scenario was difficult, but I find this a very rewarding experience, thanks to all the FGs who participated in the event. From today's FG workshop, I hope there will be much voluntary participation of FGs in the welcoming event for 2019 Freshmen students which will be held in Winter" Univesity College

- 2018 University College Day was held University College hosted 2018 University College Day on November 2nd(Friday) at Natural Sciences campus. The event was held for students to interact with other University College students, through athletic events and sharing of know-hows of LC(Learning Community) activities of Univeristy College freshmen for one year. Also, the University College Day event was held to promote various LC activities, Creative Study Group, Global Buddy and other FYE programs. The LC Athletic Competition proceeded in playground after Dean's opening speech. The top LCs of Spring Semester LC Athletic Competition participated in dodgeball, futsal and relay race. The second part of the event was consisted of presentations and award ceremony. Peer Leaders presented the exemplary cases of LC portfolio, Creative Study Group and Global Buddy. The award was given based on the frequency of LC gatherings, participation level, fidelity and design of portfolio. The head of 11th Freshman Guide, Rae Hyun KIM(17' Mathematics) who directed the event at the field said, "The weather was just perfect for the athletic competitions. - SKKU Ranks 100th in the QS World University Rankings, Rising from 108th Last Year Sungkyunkwan University ranked 100th in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings 2019 this year, rising from 108th last year. It has risen 79 spots from 179th place over the last 6 years. SKKU also maintained 3rd place in the ranking of domestic universities in Korea. SKKU scored 88.3 points in Faculty/Student Ratio (85.1 points last year), 43.5 points in Citations per Faculty (37.9 points last year), and 34 points in International Students (27.6 points last year), showing a steady upward trend in the overall evaluation index. On the other hand, five Korean universities were listed in the world's top 100 in this year's QS world university rankings. Seoul National University ranks 36th, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology 40th, Pohang University of Science and Technology 83rd, Korea University 86th, and Sungkyunkwan University 100th. Sungkyunkwan is a new entrant by rising eight notches from last year. Fifteen Korean universities are in the top 400, with Hanyang University moving up four notches to 151st and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology 315th. - The President of UNISINOS, Brazil Visited SKKU on May 30th A delegation from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) in Brazil visited SKKU on May 30th (Wednesday) in order to discuss mutual cooperation between the two universities. At the meeting, future plans for UNISINOS’s new campus, Porto Alegre and possible exchange activities were discussed. In particular, research and faculty exchange activities are expected to develop further through the 7th Brazil – Korea Forum that will be held in August 22nd to 24th at UNISINOS’s Sao Leopoldo Campus. Unisinos is Brazilian private Jesuit university founded in 1969. Its main campus is located in Southern Brazil. Unisinos has a strategic orientation in Science, Technology, and Innovation with a global dimension. Unisinos' campus has a technological park, TECNOSINOS, which consists of 75 companies from 10 different countries, including the South Korean HT Micron and the German SAP Labs Latin America. - University College held 2018 Spring Semester LC Athletics Competition University College held 2018 Spring Semester LC Athletics Competition on May 18th(Fri) at Humanities and Social Sciences Campus and on June 1st(Fri) at Natural Sciences Campus. About 1,000 freshmen of Humanities. Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering participated in various sports events, including tug-of-war, group jump-rope, futsal, dodge ball, relay and foot volleyball. Lee Si-eun(President of 11th Humanities and Social Sciences Freshman Guide, Public Administration 17) said, “I was worried about lots of freshmen being absent because it has rained for few days, but there was no setback with the events. I was really appreciated with Sungkyun Mentors for taking care of the participants. They even brought us cups of coffee as it was little bit chilly.” Kim Rae-hyun(President of 11th Natural Sciences Freshman Guide, Public Administration 17) mentioned that it was rewarding as 2018 freshmen participated enthusiastically in futsal event at the grass fields of Natural Sciences Campus. Kim Sung-tae, 2018 freshman of Social Sciences, said “My LC was able to win 2 events, relay and tug-of-war, as we all put our best efforts into LC Athletics Competition events. We will use the prize money on LC activities.” S12, S13 and S15 of Social Sciences won at Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, and E19 of Engineering won multiple events, such as foot volleyball and dodge ball, at Natural Sciences Campus. - Sungkyun C-School’s High Performances in Various Fields Students of Sungkyun C-School, building and realizing the new model of convergence education, have made great results in various fields, such as start-up and advertisement. * Team Nonmoonnamu of C-School Start-up Program Team Accepted for “2018 Smart Venture Campus Recruitment” Team Nonmoonnamu of C-School Start-up Program was selected as prep entrepreneur of “2018 Smart Venture Campus Recruitment.” The team consists of Jeon Jihee(Business Administration 12), Kim San(Chemistry 14), Ha Juseong(Chemistry 14) and Joo Eunjung(Chemistry 15). “2018 Smart Venture Campus Recruitment” is a government program that finds out young prep entrepreneurs of knowledge service industry and gives concentrated support on every process of their start-ups. The selected team will receive about 50 million won of funding. Team Nonmoonnamu completed all the courses of C-School Program, including Basics of Start-up, Presentation and Business Plan Writing. The team pointed out Experts In-depth Mentoring of C-School Start-up Program as their critical success factor. Sungkyun C-School is giving continuous support on Team Nonmoonnamu after the students’ completion of the program for their challenges and successes. * Kim Daeun of C-School Certification Program launched ‘Sea Urchin Soy Sauce’, funded by global company ARAMCO Kim Daeun(Psychology 13) of C-School Certification Program launched ‘Sea Urchin Soy Sauce’ with two other students of SKKU, funded by global company ARAMCO. She came up with an idea and a story for reducing the number of sea urchins as one solution of sea desertification problem. She also commercialized the product with a help of Seoul Start-up Hub’s Incubating Start-up ‘WeCook’ and gave presentation on the product at CJ ‘OliveCon.’ Kim Daeun said that lessons from C-School Basic Convergence Project have given motivations to her. * C-School Project Team Awarded at various international student adverstisement contest Team ‘Ceci n’est pas une publicite’(this is not an advertisement) was accepted for “2018 CANNES FUTURE LIONS”, which is the most authoritative international student advertisement contest. The team was also awarded at other global contests, such as “Creativity International Awards”, “Chip Shop Awards” and “Montreux Advertising Award.” Team ‘Ceci n’est pas une publicite consists’ of An Seung-uk(Global Business Administration 14), Koo Ilmo(Business Administration 13), Hyun Hojun(Business Administration 13), Lee Yuna(Library and Information Science 13) and Choi Myeongji(Economy 16). The students said that C-School Project has been a great support, providing synergy effects of various major knowledges and in-depth study with academic advisers. * C-School Student Council set up, the first student council of an interdisciplinary program C-School Student Council was set up, which is the first student council of an interdisciplinary program. C-School Student Council will make actions for students to understand and become ‘Global Creative and Innovative Leaders’, which is the vision of C-School. C-School Student Council consists of 10 students, including the president Heo Yujeong(Chinese Character Education 16), and 3 consultant students, including Gong Juntaek(Global Economy 13). - SKKU Placed 87th by CWTS Leiden Ranking 2018 The CWTS (Dutch: Centrum voor Wetenschap en Technologische Studies, CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands assessed the ‘2018 Leiden Rankings’ based on the scientific performances of 938 major universities worldwide. SKKU placed 87th, demonstrated an improvement of 9 places higher on the list compared to the previous year. The Leiden Ranking is based on Web of Science data. All universities worldwide with more than 1000 fractionally counted Web of Science indexed core publications in the period 2013–2016 are included in the ranking. This year, SKKU was placed on 87th with 7,920 research publications. In particular, the fields in Medicine and Natural Science/Engineering were recognized its excellent research performances and placed on 86th and 76th, respectively. Harvard University with 33,045 publications, University of Toronto with 22,151 publications, and Zhejiang University with 20,876 publications are three top leading universities worldwide.
