- SKKU, No.1 Employment Rate for Five Consecutive Years
- SKKU, NO.1 Employment Rate Among Four-year Universities in Korea for Five Consecutive Years Sungkyunkwan University ranked first in the employment rate among the nation’s four-year universities in 2019 for five consecutive years. The Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute announced the employment rate of graduates of 2019 February (including graduates of August 2018) through a university notification on the 13th this month. The 2019 overall employment rate for all four-year university graduates in Korea was 63.4%. The employment rate has been continuously decreasing over the past five years. This survey excluded the effects of the COVID-19 since it only includesthe graduates in 2019. The reason why the Ministry of Education announces the disclosure data of 2019, not 2021 is that it is easy to identify those who have health insurance, but there is a slight time difference in identifying graduate students, individual artists, and overseas workers. In this survey, Sungkyunkwan University rated 78.6% employment rate, maintaining its top position among the four-year universities in Korea for five consecutive years. Hanyang University ranked second while Sogang University ranked third. *Original Article: https://www.hankyung.com/society/article/202101138707i

Myeong-hak Lee, Professor Emeritus of Classical Chinese Education Pubilshed
Emeritus Professor Myeong-hak Lee (Classical Chinese Education) has published , which is an interesting book about origins and examples of Chinese characters. Professor Lee has always emphasized the need for education of Chinese character, one of two central pillars of korean language. Words with Chinese characters can be written in Korean, but if you don't know the meaning of those words, it would bound to be 'half' education. Though Professor Lee has stressed the importance of Chinese character education for almost 30 years, he was never offered for publishing a book. So he was impressed at the power of broadcasting, when several publishers suggested him to publish a book after he was on the tv program, . This book has 5 chapters (▲ Chinese Characters of Reversal ▲ Chinese Characters of Misunderstanding ▲Chinese Characters of Discovery ▲Chinese Characters of Relationship ▲Chinese Characters of Empathy), and there are about 70 words up to 5 chapters. With the origin and usage of Chinese characters, even the quitters of Chinese characters can study the language in a pleasant and pleasant manner with a wit. Professor Myeong-hak Lee said, “People should know Chinese characters to be good at Korean. If you know at least 300 characters’ origins and meanings, your literacy can be developed dramatically.” -

- SKKU was selected as ‘2020 Industrial Technology Hub Center’
- SKKU was chosen as ‘2020 Pilot Fostering Project of Industrial Technology Hub Center’ ran by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. The project is aimed for university research institute to continuously develop and accumulate original technologies through R&D (step 1) and to establish R&D support and supply base systems that would make it possible to provide them to companies (step 2). Skku will receive 5.25 billion won of support from the Government for 2.5 years of the first stage for being selected as the number one target of this project by the topic ‘composite materials and simultaneous design’. In the second stage, it is planned to establish supply base systems for 4 years with the support of the government. ‘Composite materials and simultaneous design’ technology is to design parts with considering manufacturing of composite materials and parts at the same time. It is expected to dramatically improve component quality and shorten the development period, which is differentiated with the previous paradigm of individual stages (component development, design parts, and manufacturing.). In addition, it is planned to efficiently connect and expand the industry-academic cooperation capabilities already established in SKKU, such as Collaboration Research Center with Hyundai Motor Company, Collaboration Research Center with Hanhwa Solution, and research center with Semes etc. and then utilize these in the Hub Center. This project will be led by the director, Prof. Jong-hwan Seo of Mechanical Engineering, and 9 professors of Chemical Engineering and 5 research professors of Industry-University Collaboration will participate in this project. Also, 6 R&D cooperation organizations and 71 corporations will participate as consortium. During the first stage of the pilot project, the Hub Center plans to develop core technologies for composite materials and simultaneous design, and manufacturing technologies. Moreover, it is planned to verify the possibility of practical use of this technology after developing battery pack covers applicable to the future car market, which is emerging as Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and non-pneumatic tires with the 6 consortiums. Based on these technologies and achievements, it is expected to supply and spread the developed core technology by diversifying the composite material parts area into semi sectors such as semiconductor equipment and 3D printing sectors over four years in the second stage. [Image1] PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle) Example of composite material Hyun-seung Chu, The dean of SKKU Univ-Industry Collaboration said “If this hub centeris successfully developed, it is expected that domestic/international exports will be possible as an exemplary industry-academic cooperation model between universities and corporations.” The director of this project, Prof. Jong-hwan Seo, said “It will serve a role as supply base for supplying and distributing the original technologies of domestic composite materials and components to related industries in the future as it is will grow to a world-class level. Also, it is expected to dominate the high value-added materials and parts market and enhance domestic competitiveness.”

- SKKU opened Challenge Square to systematically manage students’ learning outcome
- SKKU opened Challenge Square, a system for student success portfolio, to systematically manage students’ learning outcome - To systematically manage the learning outcomes of students’ extracurricular activities throughout their entire university years - To design effective university life and career roadmaps by checking students’ abilities at a glance Our university (SKKU) opened Challenge Square, a system for student success portfolio, in order to systematically manage the learning outcomes of students’ extracurricular activities on September 1st (Tue). Challenge Square is a total system that integrates and manages learning outcomes both inside and outside of school throughout students’ entire university years. It systematically manages various activities, including club activities, volunteer activities, scholarship, international exchange, mentoring, contests and seminars. Our university plans to support students' successful university life and help them enter into society, by analyzing students’ success factors based on big data through Challenge Square. Students can use the system to systematically manage their learning outcomes, as well as look back on their own abilities by comparing and analyzing them with other students. Students can systematically prepare their careers by checking the status of extracurricular activities compared with other students in the same department and the same grade. Students also can compare the status of extracurricular activities or their grade point average with other students employed in a job category where they wish. In this way, students can effectively design their university life because they can see their strengths and weaknesses through the system. Furthermore, students can build a career roadmap that is right for them, based on comprehensive and data based career information. Kim Dong Uk, the head of Academic Affairs Division, said, “So far, students' data have tended to be managed focusing on their grades and other curriculum activities. Challenge Square will be the foundation for students to design their university life more effectively and enter into society, by establishing a database about not only curriculum activities but also students’ extracurricular activities and entire university years.”
