- 2019 Orientation for Newly Admitted Students was held
- 2019 orientation for newly admitted students was held on Tuesday February 19, at 33B101 in Humanities Campus. The Orientation was for freshmen students in College of Education. The first part of the orientation started with the introduction of College of Education office. Following sequence was the introduction of University College and Pre-college program that the students can participate before entering SKKU. The senior students also took part in the orientation, introducing Major and giving useful tips to spend winter vacations before the semester starts. The second part of the orientation was carried on under the lead of Student union. There were ice-breaking sessions in which students had a chance to introduce themselves to others, fulfilling guerrilla missions and freshman students had a chance to solve their curiosity on university life through Q&A session with seniors. Most of the newly admitted students who participated were satisfied with the pre-college orientation.

- 2019 Orientation for Freshmen Students of Graduate School of Education was held
- Graduate School of Education in Sungkyunkwan University reported that it conducted its " 2019 Orientation for Freshmen Students “ on Tuesday February 19, at 50412 in Humanities Campus. Almost every students participated. Prior to the start of the orientation, there was an education to prevent sexual violence. The Human Rights Center in the school led the education. It took about half an hour. The first part of the orientation was conducted under the College of Education office. There were the instructions of academic guide and requirements for graduation, teacher’s certificate. Freshman students had a chance to solve their curiosity on university through Q&A session. The second part of the orientation started with the lead of student president. There were introduction of Student union and student’s benefits. After the orientation, there was a meeting led by a student council. It was a meaningful orientation for students and those involved in the university.

- Prof. Dong Ryeol SHIN Named as the 21st President of Sungkyunkwan University
- Sungkyunkwan University announced on November 8th that it held a board of trustee meeting and appointed professor Dong Ryeol SHIN as the 21st Sungkyunkwan University president. Born in 1956 in Seoul, he graduated from Yongsan High School and Sungkyunkwan University Dept. of Electrical Engineering in 1980. He received his master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. Since 1994, he has been working as the professor of Sungkyunkwan University. He was a Dean of the College of Information and Communication Engineering and Dean of Sungkyun Convergence Institute and demonstrated his outstanding ability in education and administration. Prof. SHIN said, “I will do my best to make the school become a truly global leading university in the 4th industrial revolution, based on the consensus with members through active communication and dedication." His term will commence on January 1st, 2019.

- 2018 Seokdam(昔潭) Scholarship Donation Ceremony
- On November 6, 2018 Seokdam(昔潭) Scholarship Donation Ceremony for the students in Department of Education was held at 600 Anniversary Hall. Professor AHN Sung Jin, Dean of College of Education delivered the scholarship to the students. Seokdam Scholarship was established in 2011 by LEE Wan-Keun('61), the CEO of Shinsung Solar Energy Corporation and the honorary president of SKKU alumni, in order to encourage the students in Department of Education. Each semester, LEE Wan-Keun made endowment of scholarship to 5 students, 2,000,000won per student. Up to this day, the total amount of scholarship endowed is 160 million won, to 80 students. CEO LEE Wan-Keun mentioned "With the attitude to endure hardship, our alumnus should keep in mind that each one of you are an educator". SOHN Ji Ha, as the student representative, read an address that she will try hard to become an individual with competency, and be the inspiration to other students. Professor AHN Sung Jin(Dean of College of Education), LEE Dong Hoon(Dean of Department of Education) attended the Seokdam Scholarship Donation Ceremony. Department of Education decided to put more effort in learnfare for students, by constituting a scholarship committee around the recipients of the scholarships.

- Implementation of 2018-2 Third Aid and CPR practice
- College of Education held third aid and CPR practice in the second semester of 2018 at the Reception Hall in International Center on Saturday, Noveember 3. A total of 68 students participated in the two-times of practice, 57 students in College of Education, 16 students in teaching course, and 27students in graduate school. The instructor at a nearby health center in Jongno-gu led exercise consisted of two and a half hours of CPR and first aid training program. Two or more times of First aid and CPR practice is the requirement for those who are going to graduate from College of Education. The chief of College of Education who ran this event said, "We hope that students who participate in emergency treatment and CPR practice will not be willing to participate in it, but can use it in an emergency situation."

- Prof. Jae Kyo JIN of the Dept. of Classical Chinese Education Received an Honorary Doctorate Degree
- On October 26 (Friday), Professor Jae Kyo JIN (Department of Classical Chinese Education) who had served as the Chair of the Academy of East Asian Studies, received an honorary doctorate degree from Sofia University, Bulgaria's top prestigious university. At the university committee presided by President Anastas Gerdzhikov, Sofia University unanimously passed conferment of the honorary doctorate degree to Prof. Jae Kyo JIN in recognition of his contribution to the development of Korean Studies at the end of May 2018. Since Bulgaria started diplomatic relations with Korea in 1990, Sofia University has only given honorary doctorate degrees to Korean politicians and diplomats, and this is the first time to confer an honorary doctorate degree to Korean scholar. Prof. Jae Kyo JIN has been organizing academic conferences regularly since 2012 by linking professors of relevant fields including the Academy of East Asian Studies with the researchers of Korean Studies at Sofia University, in order to develop Korean Studies in Bulgaria. In addition, He had helped to build short and long term programs and supported Sofia University to get the Korean government's research fund for the development of Korean studies. In particular, Prof. JIN helped to increase the number of students entered to the Dept. of Korean studies of Sofia University and held Korean writing contest for Bulgarian high school students in order to spread Korean culture. As a result, Sophia 18 public school opened the Korean language major for the first time in Europe and currently, Korean language classes are also opened for the first grade of elementary school.

- Professor Bae Sang-hoon of the Department of Education announced his keynote speech for EDUCA 2018.
- Professor Bae Sang-hoon of the Department of Education will give a special lecture on October 17 at the EDUCA 2018 event hosted by the Thai Education Ministry, the Thai Teachers' Association and the Thai Korean Academy of Education. EDUCA is the largest international event in Thailand that will bring together about 300 teachers and education officials from all over Thailand and will be held in Bangkok from October 17 to 19. Professor Bae Sang-hoon will present in his speech the subject of "What Should be Taught in the Age of Uncertainy: Korea Context." Professor Bae will explain how education has contributed to the nation's economic and social development so far, and will deal with the direction of education and the government's policy for this development in the event of environmental change. Professor Bae Sang-hoon served as the head of the Sungkyunkwan University's Center for University Education Innovation and is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal for Research on after-school studies.

- SW Education, to secure future human resources core competencies
- Mid-school SW education obligation was enforced this year, but at the on site it is complaining that class hours and specialized teachers are short. Although compulsory software education was enforced due to insufficient preparation for SW education, SW education is not properly implemented on site. Only 42 percent of middle schools nationwide organized SW courses this year. Poor school SW education can cause overheating in the private education market. Experts point out that it is urgent to take measures such as expanding infrastructure, extension of teachers specializing in SW programs, and extension of classes in order for SW public education to be conducted properly. "There will be need to prepare for SW education in elementary schools next year, but it will not be enough until the mandatory education of SW is implemented," said Kim Jae-hyun, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University.

- 2018 College of Education Summer Graduation Ceremonies held
- The 2018 Summer graduation ceremony took place on August 24 at Dasan Hall of Economics 32208. The 2018 Summer Graduation Ceremony of College of Education and a Graduate School of education was accomplished successfully. Degree recipients of 2018 Summer graduation was 102. (undergraduate degree 32, master’s degree of general graduate school 11, Ph'D degree of general graduate school 6, master’s degree of graduate school of education 53) Sung Jin AHN, dean of collge of education participated the ceremonies and delivered speeches to celebrate the students. Families, friends of the students and many honored alumni of each departments also joined and made the day more meaningful.
