Overview

   

 

The Department of Biological Sciences at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) boasts a half-century long history, with more than 2,000 alumni working in various fields including academic, industrial, educational, and government institutions. The excellence in both education and research of the department has been recognized by multiple awards. The department was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a top tier in the Republic of Korea in 1999. Brain Korea 21, an ambitious nationwide program to support graduate research in academic institutions, chose the department as one of the awardees for two consecutive phases.

 

Eighteen faculty members with global top-tier research activities are currently engaging in a variety of research and teaching activities in the department. The areas covered by the faculty members encompass major fields in modern biological sciences such as; Animal Physiology, Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biodiversity & Conservation Ecology, Biochemistry, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Molecular Cellular Glycobiology, Cellular Signal Transduction, Plant Systemic Taxonomy, Evolutionary genetics, Neuroscience, Molecular & Environmental Biology, Plant Molecular Biology.

 

More faculty members in the frontier fields of biology are scheduled to join the department, strengthening the current excellence of the department beyond the horizon.
